The Reveal

She was still shocked after her one on one with Mother Superior.  She really thought she is prepared for this and she is even expecting a great miracle for her "baby brother", but apparently his body is refusing all the treatment, his body could no longer hold on... She was crying and looking at Baste, when the child opened his eyes...

Baste : Ate, don't cry, I don't want to see you ugly, its yucky...

Maine : I am sorry, baby... Its just that I am hurting coz you are hurting... How are you, little boy?

Baste : (looking at her with hope)... Ate, nakita ko sila, they are calling me, they are already waiting for me... They were on a very nice place, they have little wings.  (Baste speaks but weakness is so evident on his voice, he almost whispers on some of his speech)

Maine : Baby, please no... Di ba sabi mo babantayan mo pa si Ate? Sabi mo mamamasyal pa tayo?? (She is already hysterical)

Baste : Ate, I promise you that I will always guide you, I will always make sure you are safe, but I really wanted to make this pain go away.  It is too painful and I don't want you to see me like this and cry like that... Gusto ko ako naman ang magbabantay sa iyo at sa mga ibang kapatid ko sa bahay...

Maine : Baby, please... Hold on... There are other ways for you to get healed... Baby please don't leave me...

Baste : Ate, thank you for everything, but please let me go... I don't want another pain... Alam nyo po, umiiyak lang ako pag umaalis ka na, kasi po talagang masakit, sobra sakit po... At pangako, babantayan po kita palagi..

Maine cried so hard and can't no longer speak when she stares at Baste's eyes... It speaks volume but one thing is for sure, he is definitely tired and wanting to rest from everything.  He really is too tired to continue plus his body is already weak and so fragile.  She cried and was surprised to feel the presence of some people on her side.

Paolo : Maine, let him go... Let him rest...

Maine : But...

Richard : Don't be selfish... The child is already worn out... Let him rest...

Maine : You do not have any idea of how much I love that child so please back off... You don't have any idea of painful it is! You sensitive moron!

Richard : Stop! You don't know anything.  Stop it and accept that you can't do nothing and you only make the matter worst! Stop being selfish and let the child go... For wanting to stand up for sensitivity, you are so INSENSITIVE!!

And Richard stormed off after saying that words.  Maine was surprised but she don't want anybody else notice it, she was too hurt as well of his accusations towards her...

Paolo : Maine, be reasonable... The child is so tired let him rest...

Maine : But there is still other treatment we could try... We need to try it...

Maine said but Paolo's words struck her...

Paolo : Maine, let go... Hirap na hirap na si Baste, he cant no longer undergo another treatment, bugbog na ang katawan niya, maawa ka naman! 

Maine : But he made me so happy, he is only a child and he deserve to live with everything that is good on this world! He deserve to enjoy and live his life to the fullest...

Paolo : Yes, he made you happy but I want you to see, really see him, is he still happy with what's going on with his body? Kaya pa ba ng katawan niya? Bes, siya na mismong may katawan pagod na... Maawa ka na, let him go! Let him rest and find solace!

Maine : Bes, bes! (She is now wailing)...

Baste : I will be your forever guide, Ate! Your angel, your protector...

Upon saying those words, Baste drifted off to sleep again...

Maine : Bes, I can't do it... Seeing him on that situation... I just can't...

Paolo : But you have to, even Baste is begging you! You only prolong his agony! Eventually, his body will succumb from his disease and nothing, as in there is nothing that we can do about it... Let him rest peacefully...

Maine sit herself on the lone sofa inside the room... She is still crying... Paolo took off to look for Richard and to buy some foods for everybody...

Mother Superior came inside the room with a priest in tow.  They were to bless Baste.  Maine, upon seeing what's happening fled from the room and found herself at the hospital's rooftop.  She cried herself without inhibitions, when suddenly she felt someone embraced her from the back...

Richard : Its hard, but you have to let him go peacefully... You owe it to him, he made you happy pero kailangan na niyang magpahinga!

Maine although shocked, succumb to the warmth of his embrace.

Maine :  Napakahirap! Sobra! He is still a child, marami pa siyang pwedeng gawin at marami pa siyang pwedeng marating...

Richard : Yap, but think of how he is suffering and still suffering because he is waiting for you to let go. 

Maine, upon hearing those words, heard Baste's voice again...

"Ate, thank you for everything, but please let me go... I don't want another pain... Alam nyo po, umiiyak lang ako pag umaalis ka na, kasi po talagang masakit, sobra sakit po... At pangako, babantayan po kita palagi..."

Maine, as if taken out of trance, realizes her mistake and took off from Richard's embrace and run, back to Baste's room.  She opened the door and saw that the priest is almost finished with his blessings, with Baste's hand on his palm.  Tumabi siya sa pari at hinintay ang huling basbas ng pari bago nagsalita...

Maine : Baste, baby! Sorry for Ate's selfishness.  Sorry kung mas pinahirap ko ang sitwasyon mo... Sorry kung mas lalo kang nahirapan...

Baste : Okay lang po, Ate... Basta ipangako mo po sa akin na ngingiti ka at magiging masaya after nito!

Maine : Yes, baby! I will be happy from now on... Just make sure you will guard me from anything ha? Ikaw ang magbabantay sa akin!

Baste : Promise... Pinky swear!
(And they did their pinky swear).. Kuya, wag mo pong pababayaan si Ate Maine ha? Mabait yan, sobra po...

Richard although surprised, nodded. 

Baste : Pare, pinky swear?
Richard : Pinky swear, pare! Be good sa pupuntahan mo ha? Goodluck and be happy!

Maine : I am letting you go... Be happy, baby! Be safe!
Baste : Thank you for everything, Ate! Say goodbye for me to everybody... Tell them I am watching them from above and I will guard them as well... I love you, Ate!

And with that, he go back to his slumber...

Maine cried again and kissed Baste at his forehead! And after that, she was once again in the arms of Richard, where she cried her eyes out!
