"And to the republic for which it stands one nation, under God indivisible with liberty and justice for all." The class finished reciting the Pledge of Allegiance before sitting down.

"Miss. Lawrence, I couldn't help noticing that you didn't recite the Pledge of Allegiance this morning." Mr. Feeny announced as he walked over to his desk.

"Yes, sir. I elected not to."

"Why was that?" Mr. Feeny asked.

"I didn't feel like it."

"This is gonna be cool." Cory smiled as he turned to Shawn and Elena.

Elena rolled her eyes, "The things that make you happy." She scoffed.

"What was that, Mr. Matthews?" Mr. Feeny asked as Cory slowly turned to face him.

"Uh, I said, 'this is gonna be cool' Mr. Feeny."

"Why?"

"Cause you're finally gonna nail Topanga for being weird." Cory smiled as if it were obvious.

"Who's going to nail you for being weird?" Elena asked, making the class laugh.

"Do you think it's weird to engage in social protest?" Mr. Feeny inquired.

"I think it's weird to pick on me when she didn't say the Pledge of Allegiance."

"Well Mr. Matthews," Mr. Feeny pointed to Topanga, "It seems that you and Ms. Lawrence have opposing positions for this morning's debate."

"Uh-oh." Cory huffed, he was not expecting that.

"You've been set up, bud." Stuart smiled happily.

Elena laughed, "He got you good."

"Mr. Feeny told you not to say the pledge?" Cory asked Topanga, who just gave him a smile.

"Today's social studies discussions; American traditions. The Pledge of Allegiance versus Social Protest." Mr. Feeny announced before turning to Cory.

"Mr. Matthews, defend old Glory. Ms. Lawrence, defend the right to dissent."

Topanga and Cory stood up, side by side as they began to debate their opposing outlooks.

"Just because it's a tradition doesn't mean you have to do it." Topanga started.

"But it's the pledge!" Cory exclaimed, "It takes, like, ten seconds to say. Why can't you just say it and make everyone happy?"

"Because if I'm forced to do it just because it's some tradition I don't understand, then it doesn't make me very happy." Topanga retaliated and Elena smiled at Topanga's bravery and uniqueness.
