❝Letting go doesn't mean that you don't care about someone anymore. It's just realizing that the only person you really have control over is yourself.❞

"Cyrano de Bergerac stands in the shadows, whispering poetry to the lovely Roxanna, but she thinks it's the good looking guy speaking to her. So, our poor, big-nosed lug wins the heart of the woman he loves, but he wins it for somebody else," Mr. Turner explained to the class who couldn't be more obvious about their stance on the play.

The boys were rolling their eyes and trying to stay awake while the girls had dreamy smiles on their faces as they hung onto every word.

Even Elena was engrossed in the selfless love of the big-nosed Cyrano de Bergerac. She would never admit it but she loved the play. She just couldn't understand how someone could love someone else so much that they would hurt themselves to see them be happy.

She didn't think love like that was even real — and in her defense, she didn't have great role models to prove her wrong. Her parent's fighting had only been getting worse as of late and really the only stable, healthy relationship she'd most likely ever been exposed to was Alan and Amy Matthews.

Mr. Turner came to a stop at the front of the class and looked at his students expectantly.

"That is so sweet and so noble that he would sacrifice his own happiness to help his friend," Topanga sighed happily and Mr. Turner nodded his head before facing the class.

"Other opinions?"

The boys of the class all scoffed collectively, almost as if it were planned. "Loser!"

"Because all of you are clearly the heartthrobs of the century. Girls are just falling at your feet, huh?" Elena rolled her eyes and smirked as the girls laughed and the boys shuffled awkwardly in their seats. Topanga was always telling her about how she needed to be nicer but being nice didn't give her the same rush as seeing people be too scared to look her in the eye.

I don't think that's supposed to give me joy, Elena thought to herself, Huh, maybe I do have issues.

"Okay, okay," Mr. Turner called out to get the class back on track. Although, he'd be lying if he said Elena's comments weren't the highlight of his day sometimes, "Define loser."

"Big. Dip." Shawn punctuated his words before wincing when Elena turned and pinched him, "Ow! You hit me when I don't pay attention in class and then you hit me when I participate! What am I supposed to do Lena?"

Elena rolled her eyes before sitting back down in her seat. She didn't miss the little smirk making its way onto River's face though and soon enough he was rubbing his arm too.

"What did I-"

"You know what you did," She cut him off with a raised brow that had him looking down at the playbook on his desk.
