'Yes!' You looked to your right at the look on Kara's face. The wide grin said it all. Your duo had won monopoly yet again.
'Haha yay!' You said with the same enthusiasm as Alex slumped into Maggie's side and threw her money at you guys.
Kara put her hand up and you high- fived it. Instincts made you curl your fingers to hold her hand and hers did the same. This had happened too many times during the night to deem friendly but you hoped the others hadn't noticed.
Kara quickly pulled her hand out of yours, taking her warmth with her. You tried not to feel disappointed, but it was tricky. Kara had asked for you to keep your relationship secret, for reasons unknown to you. You didn't understand. Alex and Maggie were openly gay and no one batted an eyelid so it couldn't be that. You curled into yourself more as she glanced over at you with an apologetic look.
This isn't what a relationship should feel like. You should be able to show and share your love with each other. It stung, but you granted Kara's wishes and pushed down the need to kiss her or hug her around her friends.
'Well I'm not sitting here loosing another game.' Alex huffed.
'It is pretty late.' James added.
'Thank you for tonight Kara but I should head too.' Nia says.
'I should probably go too. Work in the morning and all that.' You mumbled. She would hear you anyway. The hurt look she gave you hit your heart but you still turned to the door with the others. You knew the plan was for you to stay over, but feeling single and lonely tonight had put you in a bad mood and you didn't want to take it out on Kara.
'Oh- oh well okay. Umm see you guys soon I guess?' She phrases it as a question and it's directed to you but you ignore her while Maggie replies with a, 'yeah sure thanks Kar.'
Once out in the hallway and the door closed, you let out a breath you didn't know yo were holding.
'Did she look upset to you?' Alex asked anyone who would listen as you all trudged home.
'Maybe she was sad to see us go.' Maggie said.
'She's never that sad. I'll talk to her about it tomorrow.' She concluded.
'Bye guys see you soon.' You said as your road came into view.
Around 1am that night, there was a knock on your window.
'Kara what are you doing here?'
'Can I not visit my girlfriend?' She said with a nervous laugh.
'At 1am? I mean I'm not opposed to it but it's a little weird.' You giggled half heartedly.
'I'm sorry.' She finally said after a moment of silence.
'What for?' You let out a strangled sigh, knowing what for but wanting her to say it.
'I'm not ashamed of our relationship. I need you to know that.'
'Then why don't you want people to know?' You asked.
'I- everything that was ever... good for me and made me happy was somehow ... ripped away. I didn't want that to happen to you.' She explained.
'You think one of our friends would rip me away from you?'
'No. It's not like that. I just- don't want you to be in danger. And being with me, being with Supergirl, puts you in danger.'
'Babe, you protect people from danger. It's literally your job. And it's not like our friends are a danger to me anyway.'
'I know. I know. I just, get scared sometimes.' She whispered.
You slowly went over to her and wrapped your arms around her solid form. She melted into your embrace and trapped you into her arms.
'I'm here and I'm not going anywhere. But I want to tell them.' You said into her ear.
'Okay. We'll tell them.'
One week later...
'Okay so I have an announcement.' You watched as Kara stood up and wiped her obviously sweaty palms on her jeans.
'We're all ears.' Alex jokes.
'Umm, me and (Y/n) are dating.' She says as fast as possible and then grabs your hand as if to solidify her words.
'Yeah we know Kara.' Maggie said after a beat of no one talking and Kara's palm getting progressively sweatier.
'Wait what?' She said.
'We know?' James replies.
'How?' She asked.
'It's kinda obvious Kar. We've known for like half a year.' Alex adds.
'Half a year? That's the whole time we've been together! Why did you not say anything?' She said, startled but happy no one had an issue with it.
'What was there to say? Congratulations?' Maggie said with a laugh.
'Well that sorts that out. Babe you can sit down now.' You said with a sigh of relief.
Kara sits back down next to you in stunned silence.
1 year later...
'You're not my sister in law yet you can't keep calling me sis all the time Alex!' You laughed lightly.
'I can call you whatever I want! Otherwise I'll withdraw my consent on you marrying Kara.' Alex replied with a smirk.
'You wouldn't?!' You faked shock and looked down at the blond curls hugged tightly to your side.
'I would so.'
'Alex even if you didn't give (Y/n) your blessing, I'd still marry her.' Kara said followed with a giggle that tickled your side.
'Exactly beat that!' You added.
'Fine but I'm still calling you sis.' Alex said.
You felt Kara wrap her arms tighter around you and kiss your cheek.
'Whatever. At the end of the day I still get to marry Kar.' You chuckled.
'Fair point.' Maggie butted in, grinning at her wife who was scowling at her.
You looked down at Kara next to you who was subconsciously playing with the ring you had placed on her finger mere months ago.
'What are you thinking about honey?' You asked quietly.
'Our wedding.' Was the reply you got and it sent butterflies all the way through your body. 'Only a few weeks until the rest of our lives. I can't wait.'
You couldn't wait either.
