Around eight, Bruce looked up from his book to see Tommy watching him. "Hey, how are you feeling?"

"Like I'm being left here because Paul got tired of me." "You've never lied to me. Is Paul cheating on me?" he asked hoarsely.

"No, he loves you very much. We've all been making tour arrangements."

"Who's we?" came the whispered question.

"Me, Gene, Eric and Paul." Bruce told Tommy the straight facts, finally pausing to let it sink in. "I'm not replacing you. I'm just a fill in for the first part of the tour."

That made Tommy upset to the point that he started crying. His face flushed but he couldn't say much and breathe at the same time. He finally had to have a breathing treatment. Bruce didn't know what to do so he just stood quietly out of the way. He finally slipped out and called Gene.

In a shaking voice, he told Gene how Tommy had taken the news.

"Go home. I'm on my way. Don't tell Paul...I'll do that."

"Okay. I'm sorry."

"It's not your fault."

Once Gene got there, he walked in and sat down. "Tom, you are in no condition to go anywhere. As the oldest, I'm telling you we want you to get better." "Is that understood?"

A sullen nod as Tommy refused to look at the bassist.

"Now, will you please listen and heal?"

Another nod.

Gene finally got Tommy's doctor to keep him sedated to the point his body could heal without overly being stressed out further.
