"Well, that was a nice surprise." said Paul later as they laid on the blanket after dinner. Paul and Tommy had both removed their jackets and ties and were using them as pillows. Tommy was on his back while Paul's head  was propped on his forearms.

Closing his eyes, Tommy rolled onto his side and laid on Paul's chest. He absentmindedly wrapped his arms around Paul and snuggled closer. "What's that in your pocket?" he asked suddenly, feeling something poking him.

Paul reached in and pulled out a box. "I know it may be a bit untraditional but I want you to wear this." He opened the box to reveal a silver band with both their birthstones embedded into the metal and their initials on the inside. "I love you." "It's a token to show you."

"W-w-what?" "I-i--it's beautiful!"

Paul pulled it out and slipped it on Tommy's left ring finger. "I will replace it with a wedding band later."

"No, It's perfect." "Is it an engagement ring?"

"More like I love you and told you I did ring."

Paul kissed Tommy hard and pulled him closer. "Tom, come here. I have an extra blanket."

Tommy snuggled as close to Paul as he could without actually laying on him.

Paul unbuttoned Tommy's shirt and slid his hand under his t-shirt. "Don't freak out. Just relax, sweetheart."

"I'm not afraid of you." came the whispered reply. "I'm okay with it."

Paul finally got Tommy to relax enough he could take both shirts off. Paul's was on the ground already. He stopped before things got carried away. He had promised Tommy he wouldn't rush things.

Just as Tommy went to say something, it started thundering.

Quickly throwing on their shirts and jackets, Paul stuffed their ties into his pocket as he helped Tommy gather up their trash and head to the car.

The remainder of the food and wine were set in the floorboard as Paul started the car.

"Well, I'll definitely remember this date." said Tommy. "I was given a beautiful ring by an awesome boyfriend and you almost fell in the mud getting into the car."

"I did not." grinned Paul. "Well, I did, but DO NOT tell the other two."

Grinning wickedly, Tommy replied, "And if I do?"

"You will have to find out." came the reply.

For the first time in a long time, Tommy was actually happy.
