Hide Your Heart

A Week Later

Tommy was released from the hospital a week after the tour started. He had only been aware of his surroundings about three days. Looking at his phone, he wondered if  Paul was going to be at the house.

Pat came in to check on him. "Hey, you're awake." "Feeling any better?"

"Where's my husband? Is he on his way to pick me up?"

"No. I'm taking you home. To Cannon Beach."

Tommy looked confused. "Cannon Beach? I thought I was flying to meet the guys."

Pat explained that the two of them were going to fly out of New York's airport. "We're supposed to take a train up there and fly to Europe."

"That's stupid. It would take less time to fly from L.A." snapped Tommy. "Never mind, I'll fly from L.A. , you fly from New York."

Pat rolled his eyes. "I'm not letting you fly by yourself. We'll fly from wherever you choose."

"You just want me to stay here." "Go away."

"You're right. I do." "I was just going to take you to Oregon and keep you company so you can heal completely. I see that's not happening though."

"Why? So you can get me in bed?"

Pat turned to face Tommy. "If I did, you'd never want Paul again, baby boy." "I'm not like that." "I know you have feelings for me but I will not tear apart a marriage."

Tommy didn't say anything else until the nurse came in to unhook him from the machines. 

"Are you going to let me fly?" he finally asked after they were in the car.

"If that's what you want." "I was hoping you'd agree to the train though. I've never been on one."

"Me either. I guess it won't be too bad." "When does it leave?"

"Wednesday at six at night." "We can catch it in L.A. and sleep through the night."

"Will you accept my apology?" 

"Always."

Pat knew this would be a long train ride.
