It had been a couple of months since that night everything crashed and crumbled in Y/N's life. As soon as her biggest project at work was done and over with, she submitted the paperwork to use two months of vacation days. She was grateful she hadn't used any of her paid vacation days since she started working. After being with the company for years, she was long overdue for a vacation and she couldn't have picked a better time to pack her bags and leave. She wanted to get as far away as possible from Chris and Aisha. She drove to the cabin she had spent the majority of her vacations with her family as a child. She needed a break from the city.

Like every morning since she arrived at the cabin, Y/N walked the trail. It was so peaceful and quiet. The woodsy scent calmed her muscles and put her at peace, forgetting everything that had happened. In her small backpack, she took her journal. When she reached the end of the trail, she sat on a big tree trunk that was laying in the ground and wrote whatever was on her mind as she took the beautiful scene in front of her.

As Y/N reached the end of the trail and saw the wooden cabin she had rented for the duration of her stay, she stopped in her tracks as she saw someone sitting on the front steps waiting for her. He had dark hair, facial hair, and bright piercing blue eyes that could be seen from anywhere. She knew exactly who it was, but she believed her imagination was playing tricks on her. She looked over at the driveway and saw his vehicle parked right next to hers. She swallowed hard, unsure why he was here if he was the one who walked out on her.

She slowly walked towards him. He looked from his phone as he heard footsteps. He put his phone away and stood up. "What are you doing here?" She asked immediately.

"Your mom told me where you were," he answered.

She let out a heavy sigh and rolled her eyes. "I told her I was fine."

"I don't believe you either," Chris looked directly in her eyes.

"How would you know? I haven't seen or heard from you in months," she spat. She promised herself she wouldn't be angry if she ever got the chance to talk to him again, but she couldn't help it. The pain was still fresh as it had been cut yesterday.

Chris let out a heavy sigh. He looked away from her, unable to look at her with what he was about to say . "Because we're going through the same thing."

Y/N fought back a laugh. "No, we're not."

Chris looked down at his fingers. He began fiddling with his thumbs, making them go in circles without them touching each other. "You know that song, 'Gravity'?" He continued without letting her answer. "If someone were to ask me what song I would pick for you, it would be that one." Chris let out a frustrated groan and stood up. "Damn it, Y/N. I hate that you have this pull on me. No matter how hard I try to move on, date someone else, ignore you and not see you.... you always pull me back to you."

Y/N stopped breathing for a second. She didn't know what to say.

"I hate that I love you so much, Y/N, but," he also sighed in defeat. "I could never hate you."

"First of all, it wasn't fair you throwing who I dated in my past. The girls you've dated weren't easy for me to see you with either, you know," Y/N said, reminding Chris the choice of words he used on that horrible night.

He shook his head. "It's not fair for you to be selfish either. You don't want me with anyone but for yourself, yet you never gave me or yourself that chance to actually try."

His blue eyes were broken. Y/N could see he was hurting just as much as she was.

"I don't know what you want me to say," she said as she looked away from him.

"I'm sorry I went out with Aisha." Y/N's head snapped to look at him. He sighed. "That night you kicked her out, she came over to explain what happened. I broke up with her immediately."

"What?" She asked in disbelief. "Why didn't you tell me? Why did you do that?"

Chris kneeled down in front of her. He placed his hand on her knee. Her heart skipped a beat at the sudden touch. She swore she felt an electric tingle throughout her body. He looked into her eyes as he cupped her cheek with his other free hand.

"Because it'll always be you, Y/N. Don't you get that by now?" He asked. "You'll always be my number one."

Her eyes welled up. "I'm scared," she whispered.

"Scared of what?"

"You. Us." She looked down. "I don't want to lose you if this doesn't work out. I can't lose you, Chris."

"Who says it won't work out?" She fought the urge to lean into his touch as his thumb gently brushed back and forth along her cheekbone. "I'm not saying we're not gonna fight, have stupid arguments, or make some mistakes. No relationship is perfect, but," he paused for a second. "I wish you could see that you're perfect for me. You are my very best friend and I wouldn't want anyone else but you."

"I'm sorry," she whispered with tears in her eyes.

Chris's hand dropped from her face. Somehow, his heart had broken more into pieces than before. A small part of him expected her to turn him away, but the bigger part was hopeful she would finally give him and herself the chance to be happily together.

Chris stood up and turned around quickly, refusing her to see the tears forming in his eyes. She grabbed his wrist, preventing him from leaving. She placed her hand behind his neck, pulled him down towards her lips, and kissed him. He was taken back for a second, but immediately kissed her back as he wrapped his arms around her. The world around them stopped as electricity sparked through their entire bodies. The kiss was soft and gentle, but loving and passionate. It was safe to say neither of them had ever felt this way with anyone else.

"I'm sorry for all the pain I've caused you in the past," she rested her forehead against his. "But, I love you, I have always loved you, and I hope you'll let me make it up to you for as long as you'll let me."

"I'm sure I can think of a few things," he smiled at her before he kissed her again.
