Author's Note: This was requested by one of my readers. I absolutely love this song - as sad as it is. So, this definitely has some sad moments, but it also has the right pull-my-heartstrings- fuff to it.
Also, I purposely didn't pick a name for their daughter in case whatever name I did pick was also your name, ha.
Lastly, I incorporated the lyrics into this imagine. I do not own those lyrics. They belong to Maddie & Tae, and their record label company.

The phone rang. Chris grumbled to himself as his ringtone scared him and caused him to drop the hammer from his hand. He carefully pulled himself from underneath the sink and rushed to his phone he left on the kitchen counter. His lips immediately formed a wide smile. "Hey, baby girl!"
"Hi, daddy."
Chris immediately noticed how small her voice sounded. It seemed like she was on the verge of tears. His smile disappeared instantly and his heart began to race. "What's wrong?"
On the other line, Chris's 22 year-old daughter hesitated to tell him the truth. But, then she remembered how overprotective he can be - even though he does it from the goodness of his heart. She couldn't risk him pulling out his pistol to scare the hell out of her now ex-boyfriend.
"Nothing," she lied. "I was wondering if you got time to come and look at my front door?"
"What happened to your front door?"
Snippets of her breakup fight with her boyfriend from last night flashed through her head before she answered his question. "It got slammed last night and now it won't close right."
There was something in the pit of his stomach that was telling Chris something was wrong. However, after raising a daughter, he knew better than to push her to talk about something she wasn't ready to talk about. Instead, he said, "how about your mom and I drive up and see you this weekend?"
"Really?" The hope in her voice went unnoticed.
"We'll leave in about an hour and we'll make it before the sun goes down," Chris said before they said goodbye and hung up.
Chris quickly finished working on the sink at the same time Y/N walked through the front door. She was about to ramble about her long day at work when Chris told her to pack a weekend bag as they were driving up to see their daughter. Y/N was never one to hesitate or ask questions when going on a spur of the moment/last minute trip to see their daughter.
As they drove, Chris explained to Y/N the phone call he got before she got home and expressed the need to go and see her. He was thankful their daughter had picked a university to do her masters only 2 hours away from home. She had only been gone a couple of months, but it felt longer; especially since she was living at home until she finished her bachelor's at the community college. Chris and Y/N were happy when their one and only child said she wanted to stay home after high school because she wasn't ready to fly the nest yet.
Y/N hoped their daughter was okay. She wondered if it had anything to do with - as they referred to him as "the stupid boyfriend'. Y/N didn't like him when their daughter first introduced him to Y/N and Chris. There was something about him that made them believe he wasn't the right fit for the daughter. Or rather, he wasn't the one.
As they pulled up to park, Y/N quickly got out of the car, Chris following right behind her. He would get their bags later. When they walked up to the porch, Chris let out a soft whistle.
"Geez Louise," Y/N mumbled as the screen door had a huge hole through the black see through screen. The flimsy metal frame was bent just above the door handle. This door was far from being unable to close. She would need an entirely new screen door.
