Author's Note: When I watched the FRIENDS reunion, I was somewhat shocked that Jen and David actually had crushes on each other but their timing was never right. Now, that I'm rewatching FRIENDS, Ross and Rachel's relationship hit me differently in the most emotional way possible.
So, this imagine is DEFINITELY inspired by Ross and Rachel.
Warning: Heartbreak and slight angst.

Chris told everyone to go into the kitchen. His family was wondering what was happening, but they could sense there was some good news as Chris and Minka's smiles were bigger than ever before.
"What's going on?" Lisa asked.
"Why do you need us all here together?" Scott asked.
In the dining room, Y/N heard the commotion. She quickly put the last set of silverware on the plate mat,
"We have some good news," Minka said happily. She looked over at Chris, who smiled back at her with a nod.
"We're getting married!" Chris said as Minka lifted up her left hand, showing off her new engagement ring.
The words stopped Y/N before entering the kitchen. She felt her heart break. It was like someone ran it over and then put it in a blender. It was this unbearable pain.
She placed her hand on her chest, the ache growing. Warm tears welled up in her eyes, but she refused to let them fall. She quickly batted her eyes, pushing them back.
She took a deep breath before entering the kitchen. Everyone stopped celebrating and turned to look at Y/N. Chris didn't know what was happening and turned to the direction everyone was looking at. Behind Chris, Y/N saw some of his family's smiles falter. Although she never admitted to any of them, she knew they knew how she felt about her best friend.
"Hey," Chris's voice was soft. "I was just telling the family-"
"Yeah, I heard," she cleared her throat, pushing the tightness back. She took a deep breath and tried her best to smile at him. "Congratulations."
She walked up to him and gave him a hug. He wrapped his arms tightly around her waist. The hug lasted a little bit longer than it should have. She wanted to hold on to him forever. She never thought this day would come. And now that it was here, she wasn't ready to let him go. She was thankful he couldn't see her because he would most definitely notice the sad look on her face.
She pulled away from him. She looked at Lisa and said, "umm, the table is all set for dinner. But I have to go."
Lisa nodded, not asking any questions or asking her to stay.
"What? No," Chris said quickly. "You have to stay. You never miss out on Sunday night dinners with us. Plus, it's a special occasion. We're celebrating."
"I'm sorry. I completely forgot I was supposed to meet Rachel for dinner tonight," Y/N turned on her heel and walked towards the front door. She grabbed her purse she hung it on the coat rack. She felt a hand wrap around her wrist. She slowly turned around and locked her eyes with his. She immediately regretted it as soon as she saw his beautiful blue eyes pleading her to stay.
"Please?" He whispered with hope.
She shook her head. "I'm sorry," she whispered back.
Chris let her wrist slip out of his hand and let his arm fall back to his side. There was something happening to him. Something felt different. Off. He didn't know what it was exactly, but he hated seeing his best friend walking away.
