Jolyne fell back into a more shallow area of the water. "Don't get up, Hermès!"

Hermès started to stand up anyway, "We gotta get out of the water fast! That thing... I dunno what to call it, but it multiplies a bunch of tiny Stands to make a whole. There was only a tiny bit in the bucket but it was able to pull me in."

"I know... that's why I'm telling you not to get up. Grab it in the water, the string I pulled out to get here." The Cujoh extended some out for her friend to take.

The Costello grabbed on tightly, but then quickly looked around, "W-Wait a second! Where's (Y/N)? Shouldn't she have resurfaced by now? Her Stand's gone, too!" She let go of the string, ready to dive back into the marsh for you. "We have to help her, she's going to drown!"

Jolyne let out a sigh, "That's right... I guess you wouldn't know yet. (Y/N) isn't human. She doesn't need to breathe and she won't drown." She handed the string back over. "Now hold on and let's get out of here. I don't like leaving her either, but she'll be okay."

"Ummmmm..." Hermès was still hung up on the whole not human thing. "I'm pretty sure I know a human when I see one. Dirt- not human, weird sludgy maggot Stand stuff- not human, but (Y/N) who talks and laughs and sleeps- pretty sure that's a human! And, you know, I think I would have noticed if she didn't breathe."

"Seriously, you just gotta believe she's gonna be all right, because the enemy Stand is starting to chase after us!" Jolyne was able to finally get Hermès to comply, and they started zooming through the water with the sentient plankton hot on their heals.

Meanwhile, you had been grabbed by the ankle from a different clumping of the tiny plankton. Due to your short range, Kars was forced back below the surface with you.

The Stand was currently just staring at you, as if mostly confused as to why you hadn't started struggling to resurface. "You... don't need to breathe...?" It spoke to you.

"What's it to you?" Asked Kars in your stead. He was genuinely curious about the thing before him. Now that he had gotten a closer look at it, it seemed different from the typical Stand. As if it were actually alive.

"Then surely... you must not be human either..." Mumbled the creature, inspecting you.

You now realized the same thing that Kars had. Especially when it basically told you it wasn't human. It was probably its own user. So, having learned enough, you had Kars use his bone blade to slice off the plankton's arm. Leaving the thing to chase after you as the Ultimate Being helped you swim to shore.

The moment you scrambled back onto land, the enemy sunk back into the water. It seemed as though it wasn't capable of being on land, or at the very least, didn't want to come out just yet.

"(Y/N), you're alive!" Hermès quickly helped you up to your feet and Kars reformed his legs. She pulled you into a hug, glad to hear the comforting sound of your... not beating heart? Hermès immediate took a step back, practically pushing you away. All the things Jolyne had said finally started to kick in. "Wh-What the hell are you?"

You coughed some water out of your lungs to make the whole speaking process easier. "Some vampire hybrid thing, but now really isn't the time to discuss this." You took a step forward.

She held out a hand, signaling for you to stop moving, bringing her Stand out, too. "Don't you dare fucking come near me! Why the hell didn't you tell me?"

"Hermès... it's not exactly the easiest thing to drop into a conversation. Like:  'Wow, these mashed potatoes are good, but did you know I'll be turning one hundred fourty-four sometime soon?'"
