The Ludicrous Escapade Pt.3

Partners in Crime

"Okay, I'll head after Wekapipo, now." You gave your teammates a wave and started to jog in the direction you had seen Wekapipo walk off to.

"Be careful!" Johnny let out a whisper shout, not wanting to alert the enemies too much.

A short while later, Wekapipo turned a corner on one of the streets up ahead. Rather than following after him, you stopped, realizing that Diego, who Wekapipo had been trying to follow, had gone elsewhere.

The Brando was currently standing near a tree with a two photographs in his hand. One of the President's soldiers were aiming a gun at him. Diego only let the man get a few words out before jumping on him in a semi dino state.

Dio sniffed the air, his head swerving around to lock eyes with you. He smiled, apparently happy to see you. Though it seemed to fade slightly as his gaze shifted to someone approaching you from behind.

"Hey, what the hell do you think you're-"

The other guard was cut off as you elbowed him in the face. As he crouched slightly, clutching his face in pain, you spun your steel ball on the back of his neck. The skin twisted and his eyes rolled into the back of his head as he was thoroughly knocked out.

"Quick, put his clothes on." Diego had already stripped the uniform off the guy he had attacked and motioned for your to do the same with dude knocked out at your feet.

"What? Why?"

"We'll sneak into Independence Hall, which is where these people are supposed to be guarding, and assassinate the President. You want to kill him, too, don't you? Or are you just here for my eye? Although..." He looked around as he put the uniform on over his clothes. "I don't see any of your little friends around here with you."

You wondered if your teammates had got caught up on something. After all, they were the ones who had planned to corner Dio. "I was following after someone else. You just caught my attention, is all." You started putting on the uniform yourself, deciding it might be beneficial to at least stick close to Dio so you could keep an eye on him. You didn't want the President to end up stealing the corpse part from him. Keep your friends close and your enemies closer.

Diego grinned, happy to see you playing along with him again. "We can be partners in crime! Doesn't that sound fun?" He dragged the unconscious men over to a tree and turned them into dinosaurs whose skin color very nearly matched the bark. "We'll keep them camouflaged like this, for now."

"You sure they won't go on a rampage or something when they wake up?" You weren't sure how good of an idea it was to leave two dinosaurs unattended.

"As soon as we exit Independence Hall, I'll just cancel my usage of Scary Monsters on them." Dio then tilted your chin up, taking a careful look at you. He proceeded to tuck in a few more stray strands of hair into the hat. Then he nudged the cap down so its shadow would cover more of your face. "Good. As long as he doesn't look too carefully, he probably won't even notice that it's us."

"Great." You brushed his hand away. "But why are you so insistent on wanting to team up with me anyways? You do recall that we are enemies, right? And don't you prefer to work alone?"

Diego put his hand over his heart. "Honestly, (Y/N), I'm a little hurt. I don't consider you my enemy at all. We were partners the moment you agreed to my charade in that alleyway way back when. As for my solitary nature..." He looked off into the distance, his demeanor suddenly becoming much more serious.

"Humans are like a flock of pigeons. If one goes right, they all go right. They never do anything except out of pride or greed. They're all an assembly of pretenders. These people thought it was okay to simply sweep my mother's death under the rug. So I will instead become the one who stands above the flock of pigeons and controls them!" He held a hand out to you. "(Y/N), you know as well as I do that you aren't quite human. That's why I think it only fitting that you should be allowed to rise above the flock with me."
