How Patriotic...

Valentine was still holding on to you with one arm as he used the other to remove the flag.

You took a quick moment to gather your surroundings. Your horses were back where they should be, though Johnny was still gone. Only a trail of blood leading to a sewage drain was left in his place. Gyro was walking around in the park, asking some people questions.

What caught your eye the most was a pair of Diego's legs sticking out of an American flag in the alleyway floor. Wekapipo was standing nearby, incredibly confused, watching them kick around.

"Hmm..." Valentine looked at the flag in his hands. "Perhaps I should assist the other Valentines after all. We'll have to meet again later, once the corpse has been fully assembled." He covered himself with the flag and appeared to disappear beneath it.

"Thank God, he's gone." You surveyed the area once more, trying to figure out who to go to.

"(Y/N), look." Wamuu pointed toward Diego. "He's writing something in the dirt with the spur of his boot. He's asking Wekapipo to pull his legs."

You let out a small sigh. "Perhaps we can help get him out of there." You hopped off the roof and into the alleyway.

"What? (Y/N)? When did you...?" Wekapipo was very confused as to how you just dropped in. He shook his head, deciding to try and explain the situation. "Some sort of ability is at work here. I thought I shot Johnny. Diego said he shot Johnny. But apparently the President actually shot him? It's all rather confusing."

"The President can travel through different universes." You walked up to Diego's legs and then grabbed onto them. "Oh, and maybe take a few steps back, Wekapipo, just to be safe." He nodded and proceeded to follow the advice. Wamuu stood next to you, ready to assist if necessary.

As you yanked Diego out of another universe through the flag, you soon realized that the Brando appeared to be dragging someone else with him. So while the dino man appeared fine, the other Wekapipo was now partially sticking out of the flag.

"Maintain your distance! You can't get close to him!" You wanted to make sure Wekapipo didn't have anything happen to him by getting close to his duplicate. "Wamuu, the traveling through universes seems to occur when the person gets between two things, do you think you could..."

"On it." The Pillar Man was already ahead of you. He quickly lifted the flag and flipped it over so that the part with a Wekapipo sticking out touched the ground. With the flag then laying flat against the dirt, the man had been successfully sent back to his universe.

You let out a relieved breath, only then realizing that Diego was practically on top of you. The two of you having ended up in this semi-precarious position upon you yanking him out of the flag.

"To think you actually helped saved me, I'm honestly surprised. I know I joke a lot about us being teammates or lovers or whatever, but I didn't actually think you'd..." The Brando shook his head and smiled down at you, deciding to be a little more playful with it. "Are you my little hero, (Y/N)? Saving me from the big, bad Valentine?" He leaned in closer to you. "How could I possibly repay you?"

You pushed against his chest. "Well, some personal space would be nice."

"Fine, fine." Diego took his time getting off of you before giving you a hand to help you up to your feet. "Wekapipo, you should probably be thanking (Y/N), too. She saved your life, you know."

"What do you mean?"

"When copies meet each other, they both get ripped apart. It very nearly happened to me." Diego had not found the experience particularly pleasant. He had been intending to sacrifice Wekapipo to the same fate to get himself out, but he wasn't going to admit that now.
