Ice-olated

You held one of the corpse legs tightly in your arms as your body was submerged in the icy cold water. The other leg had already slipped into your skin.

Having fallen in so suddenly, there hadn't been much of a chance to take a breath. Normally, you wouldn't have considered it much of a problem, but your body seemed to disagree.

It didn't take you long to realize that you actually needed to breathe. Your lungs were begging for oxygen. With a new sense of urgency, you grabbed onto the wooden logs that were floating above you and heaved yourself through the surface of the water before things had a chance to get any worse. Though it was worth noting that there were more logs beneath the ice. Perhaps this was the path Gyro had been talking about.

Carefully, you slid yourself onto the surrounding ice. Your whole body was shivering as you tried to get yourself far enough onto a spot where it wouldn't shatter when you stood back up.

"You good?" Narancia floated over to you as the wolf's tail wagged to and fro. Nara hadn't done much to help you, assuming you'd be fine.

"Sure..." You got up to your feet again, all of your joints feeling quite stiff from the cold.

"(Y-Y/N)!" Seeing you were at least somewhat okay, Johnny finally felt like he could breathe easy again.

"Here, Johnny! Catch!" You tossed the leg toward him, hoping to at least get it in a spot that was more visible for them.

"Got it!" Johnny barely managed to grasp the leg and he immediately turned to show Gyro. However, it wound up not being entirely necessary.

Gyro's steel ball shattered Wekapipo's. The Zeppeli had been watching the snowflakes that fluttered down. The water that splashed up into the air when Wekapipo had shattered the ice had lingered in the air and almost instantly turned into snow.

"The snow flakes have golden rectangles..." You wrapped your arms around yourself, trying to warm up as you very slowly made your way over to the others. "Now Gyro can use them to his advantage."

The Zeppeli broke through the last of Wekapipo's steel balls and hit the enemy right in the torso. It made a nice, clean hole.

Wekapipo brought a hand to his wounds, staring at the blood beginning to stain his gloves. "I see... Gyro Zeppeli, how did you make it snow? No... It's because I broke the ice."

Gyro was covering his own injuries. "It was by chance it started snowing. A coincidence. If not for that, you would have been the successor. Although, maybe (Y/N) could've brought the corpse part soon enough."

Wekapipo found himself sitting down on a hunk of rock. "The only thing that matters is the result. Gyro Zeppeli, you were chosen. Some force of nature chose you as the victor. It whispered that you would be the one to continue on your journey. The snow falling was a miracle that was bound to happen. Not a coincidence." He took a knife out of his pocket and brought it up to his own neck.

"One step. I'm one step ahead of you, Wekapipo!" Gyro's steel ball hit the enemy in the arm, forcing the blade out of his hand.

"Ugh!" Wekapipo clutched at his throat he only barely nicked. "Kill me! Finish me off! There is nowhere for me to return to! Do you think they will keep me alive after this failure?!"

"Is that so?" You had finally made it next to Johnny as you spoke to the enemy. "You could just as easily fight against them, don't you think? Especially considering your special Spin ability."

He stared into the distance. There was an emptiness in his gaze. "What would be the point if there's nothing for me worth living for?"

"I think..." Gyro spoke up, recalling some information that might interest the now former enemy. "...she was your sister. Nope, I'm definitely sure she was. I messed up on her eye surgery, after all. I know for sure that she's alive back in our country. My father has her hidden somewhere in the countryside."
