Before breakfast, you and Hermès made your way to the chapel as planned.
The Costello scanned the room from behind the pillar. "I don't see Sports Maxx yet. Looks like there's a cemetery nearby, too. But it'd be difficult for me to do anything without that priest seeing." She turned to you expectantly, "Do you think you could keep him busy?"
"I'll try." You stepped out from the shadows, trying to seem as approachable as possible. You gave a small wave with your hand, "Good morning, Father Pucci!"
His head darted in your direction. He seemed startled at first, but his face soon lit up. "Good morning to you, too, (Y/N). What brings you here today?"
"Oh, well..." You rubbed the back of your neck. You could see Hermès out of the corner of your eye, encouraging you to get him to leave the room. "I just wanted to talk with someone, and I remembered your offer."
"Then by all means..." He started leading the way to his office. You sneakily made a little thumbs up for the Costello before following behind the priest. Letting her know that she should now have less trouble sneaking around the area.
Once the door closed behind you, he gestured to the empty chairs in front of himself. "Please, take a seat." You obliged and he followed suit. "What is it you wanted to talk about?"
You rested your elbow on the armrest and placed your chin in the palm of your own hand. "I guess there's just a few things I've been thinking about lately."
The sun's light shone through the stained glass window. Something about how the light landed on you, he couldn't help but feel that it made you seem almost angelic. Your appeared so ethereal and pure. He could stare at you like this for hours.
"Father Pucci?"
Your words snapped him back to reality. He cleared his throat, "Apologies. Got lost in thought is all. What have you been thinking about?" He put a hand over his heart, "I can assure you that anything you say will not leave this room. You have my word."
"Thank you, Father..." You brought your knees up to your chest. It was strange. He gave off almost the same comforting atmosphere that Weather Report did. "I guess lately I've been wondering if I can truly be called a good person."
"Oh? What brought this on?"
"I just feel like my moral compass has become skewed over the years. I've almost become more focused on whether or not a person would be useful to keep around rather than striving to protect whoever I can. I wouldn't call it a problem, per say, but I just feel like the younger me would be... disappointed if she realized how I turned out. I know what I fight for is right, but do the ends always justify the means?" You slowly closed your mouth, frowning slightly, not meaning to have opened up as much as you did.
Pucci nodded slowly, soaking in your words. "If you want my opinion, then I would say yes. As long as your goal is a righteous one, it does not matter what you do to achieve it. Something like, let's say, true happiness. Does that not deserve whatever necessary in order for it to be acquired? For the good of humanity?" He placed a hand on the cover of the Bible resting on his desk. "I believe that all can be forgiven in the eyes of God."
"Ah... I see..." You supposed you shouldn't expected any other answer from a priest. "But does that mean you are striving to achieve this 'true happiness'? Does such a thing even exist?"
"I certainly believe so." And Pucci hoped you would be there to experience it at his side once his plan was seen through... well, Dio's side, he supposed. He knew you weren't his to have, and Pucci needed to remind himself to stop hoping for anything different. "True happiness results when someone has achieved peace of mind. When people no longer have to worry for their future, that's when they can truly be happy."
