"Hey, Kars..." You communicated telepathically with your Stand. "I don't want you to injure him, per say, but could you do something to get that guy off of the cow carcass? If we can do that, then I think it will show that our luck is indeed greater than his."

"Of course I can, (Y/N)." The Ultimate Being rested one hand on your back while the other morphed into a vulture. The bird swooped towards the dead cow, grabbed it with its beak, and then tugged with an unnatural amount of strength.

"Huh?! A bird's eating the corpse?!" Pocoloco, having become a Stand user a few minutes ago, could see the creature Kars had made. With his surfboard of flesh forcefully removed, his horse stumbled for a few meters in an attempt to regain its balance. And lucky for you, this allowed you and Gyro to pass him with ease.

"I think you were right about him hitting his head too hard." Commented Gyro, unable to see the bird. "He really is seeing things." And by the time Pocoloco looked ahead of him, both Kars and the bird were gone, leaving him very confused as to what had happened. "But what do we do about the running guy? How is he running faster than our horses? It doesn't even make sense."

"We? Are you saying we're working together?" Not that you were particularly against the idea, but he really seemed to want to win on his own. You weren't sure how well he'd do in a group project.

"No. I was talking to my horse." Gyro stared intently at the man people were currently referring to as Sandman.

A breeze swept past you. You were fairly certain that you could hear an announcer referring to it as the Santa Ana wind. The very thing you based Santana's name off of when he emerged from that pillar so many years ago.

"Damn it..." Having lost focus for a second, you hadn't noticed right away that Gyro had already started accelerating. If you were going to have any chance of winning, you needed to pick up the pace as well. "Come on, Moxy. We're almost there." You could see the finish line for the first stage in the distance. Thousands of people were lined up to watch. The race was even more popular than anticipated.

Sandman was still running along the nearby mountains as the trailing group began trying their darndest to catch up with Gyro and in turn, you. Pocoloco, having suffered a bit from Kars' little interference, was amongst them.

Gyro twisted his body all the way around to get a good look at his competition. Less than one thousand meters to go.

Johnny, in order to get away from Diego who was trying to use him as wind shield, sped up. His horse kicked up rocks at the British jockey in the process.

Other horses straight up fell over, all the exhaustion catching up with them and preventing them from completing even the first part of the race.

It was then that Sandman jumped down from the cliffs in front of Gyro, placing himself in the lead once more.

Johnny and Diego were now right behind you. You could practically feel them breathing down your neck. Moxy sped up as much as she could, lining you up with Gyro's horse. The two behind you soon followed suit, the four of you now trying to overtake Sandman.

With only 100 meters away from the goal, Gyro's horse, Valkyrie, seemed to give one last burst of energy, putting him ahead of Sandman.

The Italian looked back at you and Johnny, smiling to himself. "I'm amazed. You two did well in catching up with me. By the way, have you ever been on a ship? I have. Did you know that the more headwinds that a sailing vessel gets on its sail, the faster it will go?" Two steel balls were spinning along the edges of his cloak, creating a makeshift sail. "And this head wind from Mexico was there to help my horse from the very start!"
