Sakurano's expression remained composed, but the slight clenching of his hands behind his back betrayed his nervousness. He couldn't help but hold his breath, anxiously waiting to see if his Teleportation Alice had worked as intended.
Subaru, standing a step behind him, could sense the tension radiating from his friend. He knew Sakurano well enough to recognize that this moment—bringing Mikan and Mia here using the Teleportation Alice—was weighing on him more than he let on.
Suddenly, the air crackled with energy. The space in front of the men in the room distorted, and a rush of wind swirled as if the very fabric of the room was bending. The men leaned in slightly, their eyes locked on the center of the disturbance.
In a flash, Mikan, Mia, Hotaru, and Natsume appeared, their bodies solidifying from the glowing haze that surrounded them. The pull of the teleportation released its grip, leaving the four slightly breathless and disoriented.
Before anyone could speak, a voice cut through the stillness.
"Mikan-chan! Mia-chan! Hotaru-chan! Natsume-kun!" Narumi's voice rang out as he dashed across the room toward them, the tension in his features betraying the anxiety that had been simmering beneath his usual flamboyant energy. Any trace of calm was gone, replaced by the urgency he'd felt since their separation. He stopped just short of them, breathless but smiling in relief. "I'm so relieved the four of you are safe" he said, his voice trembling slightly with emotion.
Narumi's eyes quickly scanned each of them, checking for any sign of injury before his gaze settled on Mia. His brows furrowed as he took in her appearance. His breath caught for a moment—something isn't right.
"Mia-chan..." he whispered, his voice barely audible. The last time he had seen her, she had been in ESP's office, slumped over, beaten up from the fight, and on the brink of exhaustion. Her water Alice had been pushed to its limits as she healed Natsume, and after saving him, she had collapsed, completely drained. She had even fainted from overuse of her Alice, leaving everyone terrified of the toll it had taken on her.
Narumi's gaze drifts to the traces of dried blood clinging to Mia's clothes and skin, a haunting reminder of the fierce battle she'd fought. But now, as she stands there in front of him, there are no signs of the battle she had been through. It was as if the exhaustion, the wounds, and the fight had been erased. She looks fine—too fine. It doesn't make sense.
Before he could fully process it, the twins' voices cut through his thoughts.
"Naru-sensei, you're safe..!" Mia and Mikan cry out in unison, their voices thick with relief. They rush forward and hug him, the warmth of his presence easing some of the tension that had weighed on them. But as their hearts settled from the fear, confusion began to creep in. Why is Narumi here?
As Mia pulled back from the embrace, her mind still swirling with questions, she finally allowed herself to take in their surroundings.
"It's good that you had that stone with you" came the familiar voice of Sakurano as he approaches, Subaru by his side. His expression is serious but relieved, his gaze falling on the children. "I was trying to transmute my feelings to you through the stone," he continued, his tone gentle but weighted with the significance of what he was saying. "I'm glad it worked."
