Chapter 103

P.O.V/ Kim Stevens:

Four Months later...

It's been four months since our encounter with the two-way mirror. It trapped Jesse inside. While inside, it predicted her future. A dark one foreseeing her death. It was a vision that has haunted us since we saw it. It has affected Jesse and Terri the most. Jesse can't stop thinking about it, and Terri worries that something will happen to her. She has been stressed out about it for the past few months now. Jesse said that Terri has been having a glass of wine almost every night. Jesse said she isn't getting drunk, so that's good. She's using the alcohol to calm her mind. It's not a healthy option, but as long as she doesn't abuse it. Terri's job as an RN can be very demanding, and when she gets home, she's exhausted, so I can understand wanting to wind down. Jesse said she usually doesn't drink a lot, but she has been lately and is concerned for her. I told her that she was fine and that it was her way of dealing with the vision. Jesse talked to her about it, and Terri said she was sorry if she made her worry that she would never turn to drinking to deal with emotions. She said that she would slow down. Today is Monday, August 14, 1995; I have a doctor's appointment at 1:00 pm, so I'm leaving work early. I'm now four months pregnant. I have a small bump, and the baby is moving ever so slightly at this stage of the pregnancy. I can only feel gentle flutters that can feel weird at times. Today, I find out the gender of the baby. I've already planned to have my baby shower on Wednesday the 16th. I'm so excited, and I know Kyle and I are hoping for a girl, but if it's a boy, we will still be happy. I wouldn't mind having a little boy. Kyle wanted to be at the appointment with me, but he had to work, so I'm gonna call him after it. At noon, I turn off my computer for the day and put away my things. Dakota and K.J. walked up; Dakota said with a smile, " Good luck." K.J. said, " I'm excited for you." Dakota said, " Let us know how it goes". I said, " I will.. I'll text you". Dakota gives me a hug, and then K.J. does. I put my shoulder bag on and wave at them as I walk away. I walk up to Nancy's office, and the door is opened. I said, " I'm done for the day.. I'm leaving for my doctor's appointment". Nancy looks up from a newspaper she's reading. She smiles as she lays it down on the desk. She gets up and walks over to me. I look up at her. She's a tall woman. She's about Debby's height, maybe a little taller. Nancy said with a smile, " Good luck.. I hope it's a girl. Everyone in the office has voted for the gender... the majority voted girl". We look at the bulletin board on the wall by her office. It has a picture of me in the middle. On the left is a pink sheet of paper with the number 25 written on it. To the right is a blue sheet of paper with the number 14 written. I smiled at her and said, " This is so nice of you to do for me." She smiled and said, " We love you, Kim.. and we wish nothing but the best for you and your family". I smile as my eyes tear up. My hormones have definitely changed. I've had some mood swings a few times. Kyle and I have had a spat or two. But it is nothing serious; we don't scream and call each other names. I was cranky, and he was tired, and we butted heads over housework. We disagreed. He forgot to pull the trashcan down to the curb. I got upset and started crying after it because of my emotions. I apologized for being cranky, and he apologized for being lazy. We made up and talked through it. These hormones are no joke. I'm getting used to having a bump, too. My six-pack is disappearing because I'm not working out anymore. The doctor said I could do light workouts such as walking and that I shouldn't do anything that would overheat me, such as playing basketball or anything very physical. But she doesn't know about the missions I go out on. But I'm safe and avoid being hit with weapons and by people. Mom and the others are there to protect me. I just stay back and use my powers from a distance to keep from being attacked, and if someone is coming at me, I use my powers or someone else does to stop the demon. Even up close, the demons and other beings don't go for my stomach. They go for my face. So, the worst that has happened is I've been clocked in the jaw or nose. I'm walking down the sidewalk to the parking lot. I pull out my cell phone. It's the MicroTAC International 5200. The screen is bigger, and I can now text more. I call Kyle's phone, and he answers, "Hey, beautiful". I said, " I'm leaving work now. I'm headed to the hospital for my appointment". Kyle said, " I can't wait.. I'll be happy with whatever it is.. boy or girl". I said, " Me too". He said, " I love you, Babe.. Be careful."... I said, " I love you too, Handsome.. I will". We hang up as I walk into the parking lot. I got in my car, got it started, and drove to the hospital next to Finway High. I turn up Huron Street. It's the road before the high school football field. This is the way to the hospital's front entrance, and the back is for the emergency entrance. I slow down and turn right to the parking garage, where the traffic arm bar rises. I pull up by the booth and hand the man a five-dollar bill to pay for a spot. Then, I pulled into the parking garage and found a spot after searching for a few minutes. I finally found one and parked the car, shutting it off. I get out with my purse and walk across the parking garage to the doors leading to some elevators. I walk in and up to the elevators. I press the button and wait for it to come back down. I hear the noise, and the elevator doors open. I walk inside and press the button for the fourth floor, where my OB-GYN doctor is located. The ER is on the first floor. That's where Mom, Debby, Terri, and Jane all work. I get off the elevator and walk down to the office. Her name is Molly Steinburg. She's a white woman in her early forties. I walk up to the front desk. The female receptionist smiled and said, " How can I help you?" I said, " I'm here to see Dr. Steinburg". She said, " What's your name?" I said, " Kimberly Stevens." She typed on the keyboard and found me in the system". She said, " Alright, I've got you signed in. Dr. Steinburg will be with you shortly". I walk over to a set of chairs against the wall across the desk. I'm sitting there waiting when I spot Todd walking down the hallway pushing a cart with a trashcan and other cleaning products. He smiled and said, " Hey, Kim". I smiled. " Hey, Todd". He said, " How's the baby?" I said, " Great.. I'm here today to find out the gender". Todd said, " Your Mom is so excited. She has been talking about it for weeks". I said, " Kyle and I are, too.. We've already turned our guest room into a nursery". Todd said, " I heard Kat just found out she was pregnant last month." I said, " Yeah, she and James have been trying for several months now." Todd smiled and said, " I'll see you another time.. bye Kim". I smiled. " Bye, Todd." He continued walking down the hallway, pushing the cart. He and Mom are still dating. They get along well. I hear Dr. Steinburg's voice. " Kim?" I look up, and she's standing in front of the desk. I get up from the chair and walk over to her. She is about 5'6" and weighs about 150. She smiled and said, " Let's get you checked out". We walked down a hallway by the desk and into a room. Where I lay on a table with my shirt pulled up, exposing my small bump. Dr. Steinburg is prepping for the ultrasound. She puts on latex gloves and pulls out a draw, getting a gel tube to put on the end of the remote. She has to put it on my stomach for the ultrasound. She picks up the remote and applies the gel on the end. She walks up beside me with it in her hand. She said, " This will be cold". She gently places it on my stomach, and I shiver a little at the coldness. We watch the screen as she slowly moves the remote across my stomach. She smiled and said, " There we go.. congratulations, it's a girl". I smile as she points to the screen. She said, " That's the umbilical cord, and that's the genitalia." I started crying as I stared at the screen. Dr. Steinburg smiles as she takes the remote off my stomach. She walks over, gets a paper towel wets it under the sink, and brings it over, wiping the gel off of me as I stare at the screen. I rise up and continue crying. She said, " You've been trying for a long time, haven't you?" I said as I cried, " Yes.. I've been dreaming about having a little girl for a few years now... My husband is gonna be so happy". Dr. Steinburg said, "I'd love to know her name once you come up with one." I said, " I already had one picked out.. It's Carly Elizabeth Stevens". Dr. Steinburg smiles. " That's a beautiful name.. Elizabeth is my middle name". I got off the table, and Dr. Steinburg said, " I'll see you next time.. have a good day". I said, " Thank you.. I will". I walk out and back down to the desk to make another appointment. I walk back in front of the elevator and push the button. The doors open, and I walk in, pressing the button. The doors close, and I start crying as I stare at myself in the shiny metal on the walls. I put my hand on my stomach as I cry in happiness. I said, " Mommy loves you so much, Carly.. Your Daddy will be so happy". I think about Dad, and I cry more. I wish he was here. I get off the elevator and walk outside. I pulled out my cell phone and called Kyle. He answered, " Hey Baby.. how did it go?" I said as I cried. " It's a girl..." Kyle exclaims in excitement. He said, " See, we have our little girl.. and Daddy can't wait to see her when I get home". I said as I cried, " I love you so much." Kyle said, " I love you more, Baby.. I'll see you later". We hang up, and I hear people talking. Mom, Debby, Terri, and Jane walk out of the entrance. They just got off work. They saw me, and Mom said, " Kim? What's wrong?" I said as I cried, " I'm just so happy.." I put my hand on my stomach and looked up at her as she started to cry. I said as I cried, " Say hello to your granddaughter." Mom hugged me as we both cried. I look over at Debby, Terri, and Jane. They are crying as they look at us. Debby said, " Congratulations, Sweetie." She dries her eyes with her hand. Terri said, " Now the kids will have someone else to grow up with." She dried her eyes with her hand. Jane said as she cried, " I can see it now, Nicole and Eric being best friends with Carly, Dani, Sam, and Riley... God.. I'm so happy for you, Kim.." Mom put her hands on my stomach and said, " Mimi can't wait to hold her"... She smiles up at me as we both cry. As I cried, " I just wish Dad was here to see her."... Mom said as she cried, " He can see her baby.. and she's gonna be so beautiful."... We dried our tears and chatted for a few minutes until we all went to our cars. Their cars were parked in the parking lot out front. I walked back to my car and drove home. I make it there at 3:45 pm and park my car in the driveway. I get out with my shoulder bag and purse. I walk down to the mailbox and open it, getting out the mail. The cellphone bills and the light bill. I close the lid and walk through the yard to the front door. I unlock the door with my keys and walk into the foyer. Lance usually greets me with a meow. I close the door and call for him, " Lance? Here, kitty kitty". I hang my bags on the rack and walk into the living room, where I find it ransacked. The Super Nintendo is missing, along with the stack of games that were next to it. I look up on my TV and see that my VCR is missing. I go into the foyer and upstairs to the bedroom. I walk in and find all of the drawers open and gone through. I walk over to my side at the top drawer where I keep some of my Dad's things. His wallet, which had his driver's license and other personal things, is missing. I get pissed as I slam the drawer shut. I'm crying as I walk up to the closet and open it. I flip the light switch and see that our clothes have gone through, and some things are missing. I walk inside the walk-in closet and down to the end, where my Dad's black leather jacket stays, but all that's left is the hanger it was on. I exclaim in anger as I swat the clothes hanging on the rail. I walk out, and I hear a meow from under the bed. I walk over to the right side and get down on my knees, looking under at Lance hiding. I said as I cried, " It's okay, buddy.. come out". I raise up and he crawls out from under the bed. I pet his head as he purrs. I told him, " I'm glad you're okay, buddy."... I got up and headed downstairs to the living room. I picked up the landline and dialed 911. The operator said, " 911.. what's your emergency?" I said, " My house was broken into." She said, " What's your address, Ma'am?" I said, " 1212 Braden Drive". She said, " Alright, we'll send someone that way". I hang up the phone, feed Lance, and refill his water bowl. I walk upstairs and put on a black tank top and a pair of blue jeans. As I'm walking back down, the doorbell rings. I walk down in the foyer and open the door. There stands two male police officers. One is Jimmy Watson, Karen's husband. I let them in, and they walk around the house, and I tell them what was stolen, and they write it down. We are standing in my living room. Jimmy saw that I was upset; he said, " Are you okay? Do you want me to call someone?" I said, " I'll be fine.. they took some of my Dad's things". Jimmy said, " We'll get your things back." I said, " I hope so." The other cop answered his radio then said to Jimmy, " We have to go". Jimmy said, " Bye, Kim." I said, " Bye, Jimmy." I closed the door as they walked out and locked it. I hear my landline ringing and walk into the living room, answering it. " Hello?" Jane said. " Mom just got home and caught two teenage boys in her house.. she chased them away with a baseball bat". I said, " I just came home and found my house broken into.. they stole The Super Nintendo.. My VCR, my Dad's wallet, and his leather jacket". I said as my voice broke and I started to cry. Jane said, " I'm sorry, Kim... We'll get them back even if we have to ourselves. Mom said it was those boys from Brianna's gang.. she said that when they saw her and realized who she was, they took off.. one jumped out the window, and one tripped over the coffee table... Mom said she chased them down the street, but they jumped in a van, and it took off." I said, " Those assholes aren't getting away with this. there have been break-ins all summer. I bet it was them". Jane said, " Most likely.. Shana chased the same two out of her house on my birthday". I said, " I have to call Kyle.. I'll call you back later". She said, " Okay." We hung up, and I called Kyle, telling him about the break-in. He wasn't happy about it and was more pissed when I told him they took Dad's things.
