Chapter 106

P.O.V/ Kim Stevens:

One Month later..

Things have been on edge since Kelly led us to that clubhouse where the abandoned trainyard used to be. They had Shana, Jesse, and Jack held hostage. Debby fought with Carmen, Maria's cousin. While Jane and Kevyn did. it was chaos as Beau and Abigail fed off Shana while she was chained to the hook of a huge yellow crane. I was trapped in Kelly's force field with Mom and Terri. While all this was happening, Detective Hobbs came rushing into the compound with his gun drawn. He yelled, "Police!! Freeze!!" He saw us in the force field, Beau and Abigail still feeding off Shana and was distracted. Kelly fired her gun, shooting him through the heart. He fell to the ground dead as we exclaimed in horror. Terri has felt bad ever since then because he was following us, and we led him to his death at the hands of Kelly. Kevyn managed to get her gun and fired a shot at Jane. The bullet went through her back, and blood sprayed out the front of her, but Terri quickly healed her. Everyone left, and we teleported to Jane and Jason's house, where he went to get a potion to heal Shana cause she was very weak from being fed off of by Beau and Abigail. While we were waiting 11-month-old, Nicole teleported in front of the couch next to Shana, smiling with her baby vampire fangs. Jane picked her up as Jason was coming back with the potion. Two weeks ago, Terri was at work in the hospital when she went into the locker room to get her purse cause she was leaving. Dave was in there and attacked her. He tried to force himself on her, but Terri fought back, and he took off. She reported it to the Police, and they made a report. This guy is out of control and needs to be stopped. Today is Monday, November 13, 1995; Nicole and Eric's first birthday is Saturday, the 18th. Jane and Jason are having a party at their house. Some people say that when a baby turns one, you shouldn't celebrate it because they won't remember it. They won't, but they still celebrate their birthday for you to remember, and the kids have a blast, so that's all that matters. Dana had Alex's first birthday at her house on October 22. All of us were there, and the kids had so much fun. Carly had fun as well. She was moving around a lot that day because of the party and hearing everyone's voices. I have an appointment today at the hospital at 2:00 pm. Kat is going with me, and I've been going with her because Kyle and James can't make the appointments because of work. I even went with Jane a couple of times for her appointments with Nicole and Eric, but I couldn't be there every time because of work, so I wasn't there for the one where she found out she was having twins. I'm now seven months pregnant and have a mission Tuesday, so this will be my last one. I can't go out for the last two months of my pregnancy, so I'm staying out of the missions. If something else happens involving Mom and the others needing my help because of Kelly, I will help them. I've been cautious when I have gone out on missions. I'm not moving as quick as I used to, but Mom and the others also protect me by putting force fields and shields around me, and Carly also uses her powers from the womb to help me. I'm at my desk finishing up a document. I'm typing on the keyboard when I suddenly feel a cold chill. I stop typing and look for a Spirit or Darla, but I don't see anyone. I hope to see my Dad someday, but I probably won't see him for many years. I saved the document and exited it. I get up from my desk and walk over to Dakota's desk, where she and K.J. are standing. They are smiling and whispering in each other's ears. They looked at me, and Dakota smiled " Ready?" I smiled " Yeah". We walked across the office and down the stairs. We walked out the doors and down the sidewalk, heading to the cafe. Dakota stops by the crosswalk pole and pushes the button for the traffic to stop. The cars on the left behind the crosswalk line all slowly stop, and we walk across the courtyard. We find a table and sit down, waiting for a waitress. Dakota said to me, " Your pregnancy has flown by." I said as I smiled, " I know, right? Kyle and I are so excited for Carly to be here". They smile at me; a waitress walks up and says, " What can I get you?" K.J. said, " I'll have the Turkey sub, a small bag of plain chips, and a can of Dr. Pepper." Dakota said, " I'll have the grilled Chicken salad with a side of ranch, Minus the sweet potatoes and a small can of Pringles and a can of Mountain Dew". I said, " I'll also have the grilled chicken salad with a side of ranch, Minus the sweet potatoes and the red onion, a small bag of Cool Ranch Doritos, and a can of Wild Cherry Pepsi." She wrote it down, and we hand her the menus she walks to another table. K.J. said, " I've never been big on red onions. They are too strong". I said, " I love them, but here lately, they've been giving me heartburn." Dakota said, " So, did Kat find out a name for her baby?" I said, " She named her Jennifer Diane Lawson. They are gonna call her Jenny for short". Kat went to the doctor a week ago and found out the gender. Dakota smiled. " That's a beautiful name". K.J. said, " Jenny is such a cute name for a little girl." I said, " She gave her Karen's middle name, Jennifer, and Diane is Kat's middle name". Dakota said, " Isn't Holly close to finding out what she's having?" I said, " She's four months.. she also has an appointment today. It's a little before mine". The waitress brings out our food, and a few minutes later, we eat and continue talking. A little while later, we're done and still talking. I spot Detective Bridges walking this way. She is a white woman with blonde hair in the middle of her shoulders and deep-set blue eyes. She is about thirty-five at least. She's tall, about 5'10", and weighs around 170. She's wearing a grey blazer jacket, a white button-up blouse, a pair of grey slacks with a black leather belt, and black boots with heels, making her a little taller. She walked up to the table and said, " Mrs. Stevens, may I talk to you?" I said, " Yeah, I guess". She looked at Dakota and K.J. and said, " Ladies, can we have some privacy?" I said, " They can stay." She gave me a look and then said, " Very well then.. I'd like to talk to you about the disappearance of my partner, Detective Darius Hobbs. He's been missing for a month.. have you seen him lately?" I have to lie because Kelly killed him. She most likely dumped the body, and he saw our powers. I really hate to do this, but I have no choice. I said, " The last time I saw him was at the hospital a month ago, talking to my friend Terri." Detective Bridges pulled out a small notebook and opened it. She reads, " That's Theresa Roberts, aka Terri; her car exploded in front of the hospital." I said with a slight attitude, " Yeah, and you arrested my husband Kyle for it." Detective Bridges puts the notebook back in the pocket of her blazer. She said, " We apologize for that, Ma'am. I assure you that your husband is clear from the charge.. I'm just trying to do my job, and my partner has gone missing". I said, " And I'm sorry that he's missing, but how would I know where he is?" Detective Bridges looks annoyed. She said, " See, I want to believe you're telling me the truth, but something doesn't add up.. first starting with Mrs. Roberts.. how did she "miraculously" survive the explosion? only to walk away with a slightly ruptured ear drum? now tell me something doesn't seem right... I can't figure out what happened with the car but something tells me that all of you know more than you're letting on.. especially Terri.. My theory is she tried to make it look like someone wanted her dead.. and tried to frame your husband, and my guess is Hobbs was on to something and didn't share with me.. and he was seen parked in front of Terri's house on Wednesday, October 18. Where he saw you go into her house with Terri, Debra Nelson, aka Debby, Erica Henderson, aka Jane, and Annette Austin, aka Ann, your Mother.. from what I found out, Debby was arrested downtown the day before for breaking an entry. Still, the cop who made the arrest let her go because he was smitten with her. I'm gonna have a talk with his captain about that... Hobbs was last known to be near Debby's house on Fairview Street where the five of you were again together.. so tell me, what were you doing there?" I'm getting pissed at her grilling me like this. I said with an attitude " None of your damn business. now I suggest you leave me alone.." Dakota stands up. Detective Bridges puts her hands up in defense. Dakota says with an attitude, " Get the hell out of here now.. she's seven months pregnant and doesn't need this stress". Detective Bridges is pissed, She said " I'm gonna find out what happened to Hobbs one way or another.. and you better believe the first person I'm going to is Terri". Dakota sits back down as Detective Bridges storms off angrily. I said " Things just went from bad to worse." Dakota said, " She thinks Terri tried to set Kyle up and now with Hobbs.. it makes her look even more guilty". I said " Kelly is now trying to get Terri thrown in jail." Dakota said " We won't let that happen." I said " They arrested Kyle so fast who's to say they won't do the same to Terri? Kelly is using the Police to take everyone down.. nobody is safe anymore". I hear a crow caw and look up at it, sitting atop a light with a metal pole attached. There are several of these around the courtyard to light it up at night. We paid for our lunch and walked back down to the office. I gathered my things and walked to Nancy's office. The door was opened. She was reading a newspaper. I said, " I'm leaving for the day. I have an appointment at the hospital." She moved the paper down and said, " Okay". She looks like she wants to say something. I said, " Nancy? is something on your mind?" She said, " I was looking at the newspaper, and there is an article about the car exploding in front of the hospital in September.. the newspaper is saying that it wasn't an accident that is was planned to frame your husband Kyle.. the car that blew up was your friend's right?" I said " Yeah the police are running out of ideas so now they are trying to blame Terri for it." Nancy said " You don't believe that she tried to frame him do you?" I said " No not at all".. Nancy said " I'm sorry.. I'm just concerned for you as your friend". I gave her a confused look. I said, " Why are you concerned?" Nancy said, " Cause I've heard what people have been saying about her around town.. that she has a bad temper. I heard from a classmate of hers that she was kicked off the Softball team in the early '70s for attacking a teammate". I'm starting to get annoyed at her talking about Terri like this. I said with a slight attitude " And who said this?" She said " I shouldn't have said anything.. just forget about it.. okay?" I said " Nancy.. please tell me". She said " It was a man about her age.. his name was Dave Andrews... I was at the grocery store down in front of the high school last night, and I heard some women talking about it in the aisle, and he came walking down and told us, ". I feel a wave of worry wash over me. I said, " I have to go.". I walk by her office, down the stairs, and out the doors. I walk down to my car and get inside. I drove home and parked my car in the driveway. It was 1:15 pm, and I walked downstairs to the foyer after changing into regular clothes. I'm wearing a black pullover hoodie with a white Nike check on the right side of the chest, a black leather Suede belt on loosely, a pair of low-rise Levi blue jeans that are maternity size, and a pair of blue, black, and white Nike Air Max BWs. I grabbed my keys out of the bowl on the desk and went out the door, locking it behind me. I drove over to the hospital, meeting Kat in the parking garage. I exit my car and close the door, walking around to the back where she's standing. I said, " Detective Bridges was at the café today down the street from my work. She thinks Terri tried to set Kyle up for her attempted murder". Kat said, " What? That's crazy". I said, " It's insane.. things are getting worse by the minute.. remember Dave, her ex-boyfriend?" Kat said, " Yeah, you told me he assaulted her two weeks ago here in the hospital, and the cops did nothing." I said, " He's spreading the rumors about Terri.. first about her and Kyle having an affair.. and now he's making her look unstable.. he told my boss Nancy last night at the grocery store that Terri was kicked off her Softball team in the 70s for attacking a teammate". Kat said " She tore her ACL in her knee that's why she stopped playing". I said " Exactly.. Dave is making her look bad,". Kat said " This dude needs his ass kicked big time." We walked inside the doors to the elevators. I looked over and saw Terri standing in front of the receptionist's desk. They finally fired that girl and hired Kathy Jones, Declan's wife. I said " Terri?" she's looking at her phone as she presses buttons texting she can't hear me because of her ear. I said a little louder " Terri." She looks back at us and walks over to us. I said " Sorry I said your name, but you didn't hear me." She said " If I'm turned with my ear to someone and they aren't close enough I can't hear them." I said, " Dave told my boss at the grocery store last night that you got kicked off the Softball team in the 70s for attacking a teammate". Terri gets pissed, She said " That isn't what happened.. I did get into a fistfight with a girl on the team a couple weeks before I tore my ACL it was over Dave. She was bragging about how she took my boyfriend.. when he and I were about to break up because he was about to move. I found out after I tore my ACL that he cheated on me with her.. he came to the hospital to see me. I confronted him about it, and he told me the truth, so I dumped him. I told him to never call me again". I said, " Detective Bridges came to the café today and asked me about Hobbs." I could see the worry in her eyes. She said, " What did she say?" I said " She is pretty much now accusing you of trying to set up Kyle for your attempted murder and believes we all have something to with Hobbs missing especially you." Kat said " Yeah and this cocky asshole is spreading rumors about you around town he's the one who started the rumor about you and Kyle having an affair. Now he's trying to make you look unstable". Terri is pissed as she runs her fingers through her bangs. She says, " He's not gonna stop. I can't believe he's still mad at me for breaking up with him twenty-four years ago". I said, " He's crazy, is what it is.. what sane person would still be mad about a breakup that happened two decades ago?" Terri said " I've filed a restraining order so he shouldn't come around." She looks at her watch and said " I've got to go.. after I get off work Don is meeting me down at the grocery store so he can be with me while I shop". I said " Okay.. we'll see you another time". Terri hugs me, then Kat, and walks back into the emergency room lobby. Kat pushed the button for the elevator, and we waited. We hear the door open behind us and look back at Holly. She smiles and walks over, standing next to me. I said, " Hey Holly". Kat said, " How's Shane and Adrian?" Holly looked tense. She said, " You know Shane, he's an asshole, and Adrian is doing great she definitely knows Mommy is having a baby." Kat said, " I don't know what you see in him." Holly said, " I love him.. and I know he loves me and the kids... He's just stressed because he is the full-time parent while I'm deployed... A part of me thinks he's jealous that I'm in the Army". I said, " Let him be.. and that is the truth; if he really is, then that's shitty of him to think like that when his wife is risking her life for the country". The elevator dings, and we walk in. Kat pressed the button and said, " Jimmy doesn't think of Karen like that. He adores her and isn't threatened with her job.. my sister and you are total badasses". I can see the look in Holly's eyes. She doesn't seem happy with Shane, at least not anymore. I put my hand on her back to comfort her. She smiles at me as she fights back tears. She said, " These hormones are no joke". She said to change the subject. We exit the elevator and sit in chairs near the receptionist's desk. A few minutes later, a different doctor walks out and says, " Holly Miller?" She smiles at us and gets up from the chair with her purse. She follows the woman to the room. Dr. Steinburg walks out and says, " Kim?" I get up and follow her to a room while Kat sits in a chair looking through a magazine. A little while later, I'm walking out of the room. Holly is sitting in a chair next to Kat as they talk. I asked Holly, " How did it go?" She smiled as she showed me the ultrasound; it was a girl. She is standing as we hug. Kat hugged her and said, " All of these girls.. Eric and Mason Jr. are outnumbered". Holly smiled, " I'm so happy.. I've already got her name". I smiled. " What is it?" Holly said. " Cheyenne Erin Miller." Kat said, " Cheyenne is a beautiful name." I said, " Does Shane like it?" She said, " Yes, he said that is pretty.. we wanted something different". I said, " Did you have a name for a boy?" Holly said, " Aaron Lynn Miller was gonna be the name if it were a boy.. We got Erin from Shane's Mom. That's her name, so for the boy, we would have spelled it differently". I smiled " I love it". Kat said, " Our daughters are gonna be besties." We smiled at that. We walked over to the elevator, and Holly pressed the button. We talk while the elevator is coming up. It dings, and the doors open. We walk in, and I press the button to enter the parking garage. It goes down to the parking garage, and the doors open. We leave the elevator and say bye as we walk to our cars. I unlock my car and get inside. I got it started; Kat and Holly had already left the parking garage. I look in the rearview mirror and back out of the spot. I drive down to the booth, and the arm bar raises. I hear an ambulance, and as I slowly pull out of the parking garage, it pulls in fast, parking in front of the emergency room entrance. I see Terri's black blazer go in front of my car and quickly stop in a spot in the small parking area. I turn to the left and park near the parking garage. I turn off the car and get out, and Terri gets out of the car and runs to the ambulance. I look over and gasp in horror as I see Don on the gurney being wheeled inside by Paramedics. They rush inside, with Terri following behind them. I rush across as fast as possible and inside the open automatic doors. I see Terri standing in the lobby, wailing. I said, " Terri?" I cried. She turns around, and her navy blue scrubs are soaked in blood. She exclaims as she sobs breaking down. She said as she cried, " He shot him.. Dave shot Don in the parking lot of the grocery store... He tried to shoot me, but Don dove in the way." I said, " The police are gonna find this bastard, and when they do he's gonna be put away for the rest of his miserable life." Terri exclaims as she puts her hands on her face, sobbing. She is losing it as she holds her head. I put my hand on her head and gently put my forehead to hers to comfort her. I said as I cried, " It's gonna be okay.. he's gonna make it.." We looked at each other, and She said, " I couldn't heal him either.. there were way too many people".
