One Month later..

After twelve and fourteen years, I was staring down Brad Grant, Mikey Clayton, and Sara Wyrick. Kelly had vanquished Brad and Mikey. I had vanquished Sara because she tried to kill Dakota. Erin Miller was a Warlock-Witch hybrid that Debby, Mom, Jane, and I had vanquished twelve years ago in 1984. She had an identical twin sister named Evian, who Jane had been stabbed by after Erin's death. After high school, Evian married Drax Quinn, and they moved to Oakland, California, where they had a son named Joshua Quinn. Maria Vamos and Donna Keck were a part of the first Hell's Demons biker gang that we vanquished. Donna was my boss at Claire's in East Town Mall. Maria had become obsessed with Debby and fell in love with her. She once turned Debby evil and took advantage of her in the same ways Kelly had taken advantage of Terri. Amy Edwards was an evil shape-shifter who dated Rick Beeler. She grew increasingly jealous, realizing Rick had a crush on me. Kelly's older cousin, Victoria Felton, was a friend of Terri's; they had been friends all through middle school and high school. However, once they got to College, things changed. One day in 1975, after classes, they went to a Frat Party, took Ecstasy, and got drunk. They ended up having sex, and Terri woke up the next morning regretting her wild night. Terri had told her that she wasn't into women, that their night together was a one-time thing, but Victoria had feelings for Terri and never got over them. She tried to force herself on Terri in 1992, but she fought back with a large kitchen knife and cut her throat. She made a vanquishing potion with the blood. At Kat and James's wedding, Victoria and Kelly kidnapped Jesse when she was twelve, which ended with Terri close to dying, Jesse vanquishing Victoria, then Kelly zapping Jesse with her electrokinesis, causing Jesse to lose her wings. The day we were sent to Limbo, K.J. finally figured out who was paying Detective Bridges: it was Ken Wells, one of the many vice presidents of Apex Finance. K.J. went to Nancy, our boss at Dodge Accounting, who is the Senior Manager. Nancy told her to report it to the IRS, and she did. Today is Monday, October 28, 1996. Halloween is on Thursday, and it's Kevyn's eleventh birthday. Carly and the other kids are still too young to go out trick-or-treating, so Kyle, Jason, Brandon, and Jacob are having a small party at Terri and Don's house. They're going to hand out candy to the neighborhood kids and spend time with our kids and friends. It's morning; I'm in the kitchen washing the breakfast plates while Kyle feeds Carly. The radio is sitting on the counter in the left corner. It's playing the news, a woman's voice says, " Breaking news, Kenneth Wells, a Vice President at Apex Finance, has been arrested for Money Laundering". I turn the water off and walk into the living room. Kyle and I look at the TV. The police are escorting Ken out of Apex Finance in handcuffs as he covers his face with a newspaper. They put him in the back of a police car, and the police told the reporters to back up. The police car drives off down the road. The camera turns to Rebekah Matherly as she says, " Ken Wells, one of the many Vice Presidents of Apex Finance, has been arrested for money laundering. The police believe he was paying Detective Lauren Bridges, who is wanted by Internal Affairs for several allegations of misconduct and corruption. Bridges has been missing for two months. A shooting happened on August 16th at Atlantic Avenue, where fifty-one-year-old Debra Nelson, an RN at Peterson hospital, was shot while shielding a sixteen-year-old girl. Police believe that Detective Lauren Bridges may be in connection with the shooting after threatening a Payroll Accountant at Dodge Accounting, Kimberly Stevens. Bridges was told to leave by the Senior Manager. Detective Lauren Bridges is thirty-six years old, blonde hair, deep-set blue eyes, 5'10", and weighs 170 lbs. with a slim athletic build. If you see her, do not approach her; she is highly dangerous and is armed. Call 911 right away." I turned off the TV with the remote. Kyle said, " What a major conspiracy reveal." I said, " Question is, why was he paying her?" Not too long after Renee showed up to pick up Carly, Kyle and I left for work. Later that day, I'm sitting at a table having lunch with K.J. and Dakota. I said " Ken's arrest takes care of the conspiracy." Dakota said " There has got to be a reason why he was paying her." K.J. said " It could be anything.. people will pay their way out of anything." Dakota said " Has Jimmy had any leads on Bridges?" I said " Last week he discovered a bus ticket had been bought under the name of Caroline Davis for a trip to Des Moines, Iowa. Jimmy saw the security footage of the bus station here in Knoxville, and it showed a blonde-headed woman getting on a bus to Des Moines, Iowa, but her face was not visible. Jimmy said she kept it hidden by wearing a hoodie. Jimmy went to the bus station in Des Moines and showed Detective Bridges a picture, asking if a woman who looked like that had gotten off the bus there under the name Caroline Davis. The woman didn't recognize Bridges and searched the system for Caroline Davis. She said that nobody under that name arrived there. Jimmy said it was as if she had gotten off the bus and vanished into thin air." Dakota said " Sounds like a decoy. Someone wanted to make it look like Bridges fled to Iowa then disappeared into Des Moines under a new identity." I said " Someone like Kelly.. I bet that was her idea.. Bridges has been missing for two months either she's dead or Kelly has been hiding her somewhere." K.J. said " Either way something happened to her.. but has been two months already she might be dead." We paid for our lunch and returned to the office. At 4:45 pm, I turn off the computer when I see Amy appear in the chain from across my desk, she's see-through as she grins at me evilly. I look around, then back at her. I whispered, "How the hell did you get down here?" Amy said, "Darla... she's been teaching us how to leave Limbo and visit earth. I have to say the world has changed a lot since I've been gone." She cackles evilly. She said, " What the hell is Email? And who the fuck is Mariah Carey?" She stares at me evilly as I roll my eyes, standing up from my chair. Amy stands up and says, "You can't live forever, Kim.. remember that." She looks at my work outfit with a disgusted expression, then says, "That outfit makes you look like a granny, by the way." She turns transparent and disappears into thin air. I walked out of the office and drove home. Renee brought Carly home, and I spent the evening with her. Kyle got home at 8:00 pm.
