Chapter 109

P.O.V/ Kim Stevens:

One Month later..

The courtroom turned to chaos after the Judge sentenced Terri to fifteen years to life for second-degree murder. Sentencing could last a lifetime. This means she could be up for parole fifteen years later. In 2011, Terri would be fifty-six years old by then. Sam and Riley wouldn't remember her, and we won't let that happen. Terri is getting out of prison, but we won't teleport and take her away. We're gonna do this the right way, the legal way. Kelvin's funeral was on June 1st he was buried at Holbrook Cemetery. The Detention facility escorted Terri there in handcuffs and shackles. She wasn't allowed to have any contact with family and friends, which was hard. The doctors said that Kelvin suffered a massive heart attack, which was triggered by the sentencing. He couldn't handle losing his only daughter. The emotions in that courtroom were overwhelming. Shana rushed outside after the Judge's sentencing. The emotions were screaming inside her head and felt like razors to her brain. Outside, she was clutching her chest and breathing erratically. Jacob thought she was having a heart attack. About that time, the ambulance arrived and rushed inside. They saw them bring Kelvin out, and Shana realized she was channeling Kelvin's emotions. Today is Monday, June 17, 1996; Terri was transferred to the Tennessee State Prison for Women last week on June 10th. It's hard knowing she's in that awful place where she isn't safe from the other inmates who could attack her without warning or even looking at them the wrong way. But we know Terri won't let anybody bully her. She'll kick ass if she has to. Kyle and I woke up early this morning and took a shower together before Carly woke up. She is four months old now. She can hold her head up while someone is holding her. She is very alert and watches everything. She has been watching Lance and makes cute baby noises when he meows. When I hold her, she looks at my face, studying it. She loves playing with my hair and pulls it sometimes. She pulls on Kyle's goatee sometimes, too. She also loves glasses and grabs them. We had a nice morning, like always. Carly was lying on a blanket in the floor on her back a little while after I breastfed her. She was playing with a teething toy that wasn't frozen anymore. She refroze it using her powers. She has started teething, and sometimes she doesn't sleep well and wakes up crying. Kyle and I have been up and down with her, giving her frozen teething toys to soothe her gums. I'm at work, and it's almost time for my lunch break. I save a document and close it out. I got up from my chair, pushing it in; I got my wallet and walked across the office with K.J. and Dakota. We walked down the stairs and out the doors. As we walked down the sidewalk, we talked about Terri. None of us have been able to visit her at the prison. First, we have to be approved, and the prison is two hours away from Knoxville. We are sitting at a table waiting for the waitress. Dakota said, " I can't believe the prison won't let you visit Terri yet. It's been a week, and you should be able to". I said, " I don't know what's going on.. I guess we're still waiting on the approval". K.J. said, " I hope you can visit her without the glass in the way." I said, " Yeah, being able to hug her would be great." The waitress came up and took our order, then walked across the courtyard. A few minutes later, the waitress brought out the food we ate and continued talking. A while later, we were done eating. We paid for our lunches and then walked back down to the office. At 4:45 pm, I'm done for the day and turn off the computer. I get my bag and put it on my shoulder. Yesterday was Father's Day; My Dad has been gone for four years. I went to Holbrook Cemetery with Mom, Kyle, and Carly to visit Dad. We put flowers on the headstone. Mom and I have come to terms with him being gone, but we still miss him so much. While we were there, Carly kept smiling at something, but when we looked, nothing was there. It was as if she could see something we couldn't. Mom and I believe it was Dad she was seeing. I drove home and changed my clothes. I'm wearing a black T-shirt, a black Suede belt, a pair of Levi blue jeans, and a pair of black and white Air Jordan high-tops. I walk downstairs into the foyer and notice my shoelace is untied. I bend in the foyer tying it when I hear a familiar voice, " My beautiful baby girl." The voice sends chills down my spine. I stand up and slowly turn around. There stands My Dad in the foyer. His medium-length dirty blonde hair lays on his neck, and his dirty blonde goatee has some grey. His hazel green eyes shine as he stares at me, and I cry. He's wearing his black leather jacket, a white t-shirt, a brown leather belt, a pair of Levi blue jeans, and a pair of black boots. I said as tears ran down my face, " Dad." He's see-through; He said, " Kim." I said as I stepped closer. " I'm not dreaming, am I?" He said, " No, you're not." I said, " I didn't think I'd see you for a long time." He said, " I sensed you were ready to handle it now." I said, " What about Mom?" He said, " Her too." I said " Do you know about Todd?" He smiles " Yes.. I'm glad she's happy he's a good man". He becomes corporeal and holds out his arms. He said, " How about a hug for your old man?" Tears ran down my face as I wrapped my arms around his long torso, hugging him as he hugged me. I cry as he rubs the back of my hair. I can still smell his Rockford cologne lingering on his shirt. I looked up at him and said, " I'm going over to Debby's house to meet Mom and the others.. do you want to come with me?" He said, " I'd love to." I said " Do you know what's going on right now?" His facial expression turns to sad and says " Yes I know about Terri.. you guys are gonna fix this.. I know you can". He turns see-through as I get my keys. I open the door and walk out. He walks out, and I close the door, locking it. We walked down and got the car. I got it started and pulled out of the driveway. Dad is sitting in the passenger seat, still see-through. I can only see him, not other humans. He said, " I see you've been taking good care of your car." I smiled. " I had a good teacher". He smiled at me and said, " Your house is beautiful.. I'm so proud of you". I smiled at him, then said, " Was that you at the cemetery Carly was looking at yesterday?" He smiled. " Yes.. I couldn't stay away any longer. I had to see my beautiful granddaughter... She looks just like you, baby". I'm so happy I'm finally getting to see him. Mom is gonna lose it but in a good way. I drive over to Debby's house, park the car in the driveway, and shut it off. I looked at him and said, " Let's do this slowly. I don't want to overwhelm her.. I'll be right behind you". He disappears from the passenger seat. I take the keys out and exit the car, closing the door. I walk up the steps and open the screen door walking in. Mom stands beside Debby by the bookshelf while Jane, Shana, and Jesse sit on the couch. Mom looks at me and sees my face. She said, " Kim? What's wrong?" She put a book on the coffee table and walked up to me. She said, " What's the matter, baby?" I said as my eyes teared up, " Someone wants to see you." Mom said, " Who?" Dad appeared beside me, and everyone gasped. Mom stares up at him as he's see-through. She puts her hands on her face as Debby stands next to her. Mom said as her voice broke, " Dave". He becomes corporeal, running his fingers through Mom's short brown hair with grey streaks it lays on her shoulders. She closes her eyes and enjoys the moment she opens them. He says softly, " Always so beautiful.." She cries as he pulls her into a hug and holds her. There isn't a dry eye in the room right now. She looks up at him, and he says, " I'd give you a kiss, but that wouldn't be fair to Todd." She wiped her face and said, " I'm sorry."... He said, " Don't be.. I'm glad you're happy you deserve to be."... He takes her hand, looking at her wedding ring. He said, " He's the luckiest man in the world to have you." Mom said, " I'm so happy to see you.".. Dad said, " Me too.. I'll go for now.. I know you ladies have some work to do". He hugs me, then Mom, Debby, Jane, Shana, and Jesse. He says to us, " If you every need me I'm here". He turns see-through, then disappears. I hug Mom, and we both cry. She smiled. " That made my day". I smiled. " Mine too". Jane said as she cried " That made everyone's day". About twenty minutes later, the landline rings. Debby answers it, " Hello?" She listens and then says, " Just a second." She puts it down on the base and presses the button. She said, " Say that again, please, Kay." She speaks from the speaker phone " Terri just called me earlier and told me she's been in solitary confinement for six days.. she was attacked in the laundry room at the prison.. four inmates attacked her and tried to rape her but Terri fought back". Jesse said as she cried " Nana is she okay?" Kay said from the speaker phone " Yes.. thank god.. but she was slashed on the forearm with a shank and got six stitches.. the other inmates got seven months for trying to rape her". Debby has tears running down her face. She said " Thank you for letting us know.. we'll keep you updated,". Kay said, " You're Welcome. I love y'all,". Debby sniffles " We love you too." Kay hangs up, and Debby cries as she runs her fingers through her hair. She collects her thoughts as the rest of us do. She says, " Okay, let's get to work on finding this damn auto shop." We've been searching for the shop for a month now.
