Oscar carefully walked Victoria to the dining table. As soon as she sat down, he said to Sia.
" Aunty, something came up. I need to go." Then before Sia can react, he disappeared from their eyes. Sia stared at him back. She felt that something was wrong with him.
They had a warm family dinner. Victoria had to drink plain soup. Everyone was really happy today.
But on the other side, in a dark street with nothing but the street light, a lone man walked slowly to nowhere.
She woke up. That was all he wanted. He is very thankful to God. He would not ask for more. He bothers her. He makes her uncomfortable. She... She despises him. He shall never appear in front of her again. He shall never bother her. He shall not make it difficult for her. She will be okay now. She has a family. She doesn't need him. She would surely get whatever she wants. He needs to disappear from her life.
The snow began to fall. It was light and beautiful. One by one, footsteps were left behind. Speaking about how the owner was leaving behind and never coming back.
...................................................................................................................
Victoria got slightly better. She could eat spiceless food. She was allowed to eat food that is easy to digest. She could also walk on her own now. After some time, her physical therapy would also start. The doctor said she can return to normal life after 3 months.
2 months later, Victoria returned to the capital at her home. As she entered the home, tears almost fell down her eyes. She missed her house. She missed every single thing in this house. Whenever she saw something related to her, Victoria felt warm and sad. Sad that she left such a heaven-like home.
The doctor said she could return to work a month later but Victoria hasn't talked about that with her family yet. Tonight, she planned to talk with them. However, she didn't expect her mother to talk to her too.
When Sia suddenly came to her after dinner, she thought it would be related to her work. She never expected that it was about someone who left long ago but whenever brought up, bothered her a lot.
" Mom, Dad, I wanted to say something. I will be... Going back to work after I recover."
Victoria told them after dinner. For a moment, there was silence in the hall. Everyone looked serious.
" Alright. I knew you would say that. But Victoria, as your father, I want to ask you for something." Wick said solemnly.
" As long as it's not to stop working, then it's okay."
" Swear... Swear on your parent's life... Swear that you would never do something that would endanger your life... Please promise me that... " Wick almost cried again. He was pleading with her this time.
Victoria felt bad seeing him like that. It was all her fault but everyone was suffering because of her. After Wick asked that, they all stared at Victoria nervously while holding their breath.
Victoria inhaled deeply before she said.
" I promise Dad... I would never do something that will endanger my life. And if... By chance I am to do something, I will inform you before doing so."
Wick didn't say anything more. They all tacitly agreed to let her go back to work. Suddenly Sia spoke.
" Victoria... I just want you to know... If something like this happens again, I really don't think I'll be able to survive. I am a weak person."
Victoria's eyes dimmed hearing that. She felt guilty.
" I understand Mom."
" That's great."
" Sis, are you going to work here or at City Z?"
" I will be working at City Z. My office is there and it's the most prominent city for law in our country. It's the City of Law."
" Then I will be coming there to stay with you." Sia instantly said that.
" Is that okay?" Victoria asked.
" Of course. What could be more important than you to me! I want to take care of my daughter."
Victoria smiled. Then Wick and Mike also said that they would finish work quickly and come to the city to stay with Victoria even though they may have to spend 3 hours travelling.
Later, Victoria went up to her room. As she was going to sleep, she heard a knock on her door.
" Come in."
Sia entered the door. Victoria sat up.
" Mom."
" Lay down. I just have something to talk to you." Sia helped Victoria sit comfortably. Then she sat down beside her and held Victoria's hand. Seeing Sia acting like that, Victoria guessed that she wanted to talk about something important.
" Victoria... Did something happen between you and Oscar?"
" What?" Victoria was surprised at the sudden unexpected situation.
" Well, did something happen?" Sia asked seriously.
" Yeah, but why do you ask?"
" Because I care about him."
Victoria was shocked. What did Oscar do for her mother to consider him so important?
" Can you tell Mom what happened?"
" I-I told him to go away. Because something about him bothered me."
Sia was surprised. Then she chuckled helplessly. Victoria was confused. She didn't understand what was going on. Sia let Victoria rest in her arms as she patted her head and spoke.
" Victoria, there is a lot that you don't know. Do you know what happened when you were in the operation theatre? Do you know how you were rescued? Oscar didn't want to tell you because he didn't want you to feel troubled by his feeling or feel indebted to him. But he looked more heartbroken than us at that time. He was so beat up. His family had a hard time recognising him. Moreover, he was the one who saved you. Because of him, you are still alive. I think that if it wasn't for him, you wouldn't be alive... "
Victoria was dumbfounded. She couldn't digest anything she was hearing. She had no idea about this at all. The story about Oscar was only known to the people at the sight because it was neither reported in the media nor spread as gossip. It was insider news that only a few people know.
" He-He saved me?!"
" Yes. Thanks to him, my daughter's still alive."
