Rosie was stunned by Victoria's words. She froze and questioned what she was doing. Yeah, she was feeling scared. In fact, she was so scared of what may come that she prefered she'd rather suicide than suffer at the hands of someone like that shit. However, if she gave up her life, if she surrendered to this extreme injustice, what a shitty tragic life she would have lived. She had no past she is proud of, no achievement in life she can die peacefully from. Instead, she had way too many things left undone. Though she feared what may come, she feared more to lose this only chance that may or may not save her.
Just then, she heard Victoria's voice.
" Well. Maybe I am being harsh on you. Forget it. After all, if we fail, then our fate would really be unimaginable. This is a fight in darkness. We don't know if there is light at the end. You can choose what you want to do. No need to listen to me."
After she was done speaking, Victoria went ahead to check the place and see if there is any clue or a way to escape. Rosie looked at her back with complicated and messy thoughts.
Victoria saw some broken furniture in the corner. It was mostly wooden. There was also old cardboard and other packaging garbage. It was obviously an abandoned warehouse. The walls even had cracks and the plaster was falling off due to being rotten by rainwater.
Though she didn't find iron rods or something, she got two strong wooden sticks and gave one to Rosie for self-defence. Meanwhile, she carried another and looked around the pillow sized window. Then she checked the door cautiously.
" You stay as if you are still tied. He may come anytime and it's best to be alert. I will see if we have any way to get help until then."
Victoria said to Rosie. Seeing as the window is too small to be of help, Victoria's eyes dimmed. However, she didn't lose hope. She looked outside and from what she has observed so far, they were in a basement. That small window may be inches above the ground. She wondered if someone would ever find them. After thinking a lot, Victoria picked up a piece of some broken material that could be scratched. Then with a sharp wood, she wrote three words.
" Message, SK, Save. 2 "
Then she took Rosie's help and dropped that small piece of material out of the window. She carried a hope that if her message reached the police, if they reach her, then her code message may help them save them faster.
She knew getting out safely seems dreamy but she had to make all the unbelievable circumstances true and save everyone.
As she found out that they couldn't escape secretly, she went back to their previous position and lightly wore the ropes on her and Rosie so that it looked like they were still tied. She told Rosie to not act recklessly or she may die.
It has almost been five hours since he left. Victoria and Rosie waited anxiously. Victoria had coldness seeped into her bones but Rosie felt that she could still see that slightly blurry fading warmth and fear within them. She was practically shaking like a vibrator from fear while Victoria stood motionless, almost lifeless with her head bent. She wasn't moving a single finger-like a dead person.
Rosie didn't know what she was thinking but she felt like she shouldn't utter a single word. She felt like she would commit some sin if she interrupted Victoria now. She didn't know anything about Victoria. Who she was and what she was doing. Most importantly, she had no idea at all that Victoria took such a reckless move despite being so intelligent just because she wanted to save her.
Victoria witnessed the scene herself. She could no doubt choose to be ignorant and inform the police only after she was safe and protected. After all, she was only a human too. But Victoria being such a self-conscience and the prudent person she was, would definitely not be able to live had she really done nothing to save Rosie at that time.
She would have fallen in her own eyes and would never be able to look anyone and especially herself in the eyes. Such was the person she was
There was a very unique air in the room. Rosie couldn't tell whether Victoria was alive or not. There was an eerie silence that not for a single second scared Rosie. That atmosphere was giving her strength. The feeling was like a general who was bravely, fearlessly and undauntingly stepping into a battlefield where everyone posses weapons and Victoria alone stood armless with prudent belief in herself.
Though everyone was with an incredible weapon while she didn't possess a single piece of the guard, there was no fear, cowardice or inferiority in her eyes. All Rosie felt from Victoria was self-confident and unbreakable belief.
At that moment, Rosie had this feeling that crept through the depths of her heart. At that moment, she was sure, she believed and was confident that no matter what happens today, she was going to walk out alive today. She had that unknown belief with no origin but she really believed that Victoria would succeed this time. She felt like the sky and earth would merge together to help Victoria succeed.
Soon they heard some voices from the window and then the light of the window disappeared. All that remained was darkness. And then, Thud... Thud... Thud... Click...
These sounds of hell woke her up and seeing Victoria unmoved, Rosie calmed herself down and also acted like she was unconscious. However, her dripping sweats were quite obvious.
