Chapter 43: A Symbol Of Bravery.

After 12 hours, the operating room finally opened. Oscar, Wick, Sia and Mike were all lifeless as they stood there.

As soon as the door opened, Wick, Mike and Sia run to the doctors but Oscar stood in the same place. Stuff and frozen. He had stopped breathing. He was scared. So badly scared that he feared hearing the news about her death. He was sacred to the bones. He couldn't muster up the courage to even breathe.

The doctors were very tired. This operation was too hard. Several times they were on the brink of losing the patient. While operating on the brain, they had to treat other wounds, stitch up the stabs and maintain heartbeats and pulse. Her BP skyrocketed once and it was a mess. Even before the operation, they had to stabilise the patient, deal with the heart attack in which they almost lost her and transfuse her blood until the surgery. It was really hard to save her.

" Doctor, how is she?!!!"

The leading doctor took a long sign as he spoke up.

" The patient... Will be kept in the Critical Care Unit. No one is allowed to visit her. It will be best if she wakes up within 2-6 weeks. Otherwise... She will be in a vegetative state. She has sustained heavy injuries on her shoulder and ear. However, there are also a lot of side effects that may occur when she wakes up. The most likely ones are difficulties in speech and temporary or permanent loss of eyesight. But that is all for when she wakes up. Let's hope for her to wake up within 2-4 weeks."

Hearing such a piece of news, everyone had a hard time standing. Sia lost her balance but Wick somehow supported her. She asked the doctor in a trembling voice.

" She... At least she will be alive right doctor?!"

" Yes. As long as she survives these 4 weeks, her heart will keep beating so yeah she will be alive. But after that, I can't say anything. Either she will sleep forever or wake up someday. Let's just be optimistic and hope for the best."

The doctor sighed again as he left. Oscar lost his footing and slipped down onto the ground. He didn't know what to do anymore. He didn't know how he was going to wait and deal with this all. To be honest, he wasn't sure how he will survive the coming days.

He fell into a pit. A dark pit which doesn't show a sign of light. But he knew if he waited, there may be light. But that's only if. He was scared of how to live with that 'if' because that was enough to kill him.

Wick, Sia and Mike we're in a similar situation. These feelings couldn't be described. Every second was like a bomb without a timer. They were so scared to blink their eyes because it may explode. Time passed so slowly and painfully that it hurts. It hurts so much but they couldn't do anything at all.

None of them had ever felt this helpless. Completely helpless with nothing they can do. She was right in front of them in the room but they are standing here being nothing but completely useless.

They felt pathetic, despicable, worthless, guilty and useless.

Rosie survived and woke up within 48 hours. Alice survived and was in a coma for 1 week. Another unconscious victim woke up 24 hours after treatment and the remaining four also recovered with no major side effects.

However, there was no news about Victoria. The police took statements of every victim. They harshly interrogated Teddy who confessed after realising there was no room for escape. Just like that, time passed by.

Every second was like the longest one. 2 weeks passed while killing the hopes of a lot of people. 4 weeks passed by. The 4 people around Victoria become as skinny and lifeless as possible.

Wick and Mike stopped going to work. Their assistant handled everything. Sia stayed glued to Victoria. Only after hearing her heartbeat, did she feel like she could live.

Oscar stopped going to his company. His retired father had to come back to handle the company. Since that day, Oscar didn't step a foot outside of the hospital.

Oscar, Mike, Wick and Sia lived every day in the hospital. They barely eat to be alive. Oscar and Sia were occasionally put on saline for nutrition.

Oscar's family was worried as he suddenly disappeared. When they found him and rushed to the hospital, they failed to recognise him. He had become so skinny and lost all his muscles. His hair had grown till his face. He had a moustache and a beard. His eyes were so dim and lifeless. He didn't stop bathing but he was wearing the same clothes. He washed them but they were so worn out and wrinkled. He was nothing like himself.

It may sound exaggerated to others but Oscar himself never knew he would come to love someone this much. His love wasn't healthy for him. But does love care about anything?

After 5 weeks after the incident, the police finally revealed the news. It was something that left a sensation not only on the internet but the world.

A serial killer who had killed countless women with extreme brutality in different countries which caused an international tremor among women was caught in this country without suffering as much as the other countries. Only 3 victims of this country died while all the seven others survived. Five of them resumed their normal life. Alice was in rehabilitation and needed therapy. She committed suicide several times but Levi quit his job to look after her. So she was alive.

Teddy was sentenced to death. However, it wasn't carried live. On the day of his death, the world and international women's organisations celebrated like a festival thinking he died but he didn't.

Oscar used all the connections he had to get him without anyone knowing and that's when Teddy remembered the words.

Death is sweeter than honey.

Torturing him was the only thing that makes Oscar move. Living for the day Victoria may wake up was the only thing that makes him breathe.

However, this wasn't what caused the world to be shaken up. It was Victoria.  The news of her bravery reached every corner of the world. The world came to admire her and called her one of the greatest women.

She received numerous awards from the country and the world. The International women's organisation put her achievement in the history. She became a symbol of bravery for women.

The woman that Victoria first rescued give an open interview that went viral. She said in her interview.

" Sister Victoria opened the door for me. It took her a long time. When I came out, it felt like I entered heaven. I was that happy. I wanted to run away without looking at anything else but then, I saw her... She was literally standing there with the support of the stick. She was so badly drenched in blood. I later heard that she was stabbed twice, broke her head, dislocated her shoulder, lost almost all of her blood and was awoken by freezing water. She was beaten up by a large wrench. A normal person should not be able to move a finger but she walked up to my cage, opened the lock with trembling hands and panted. She was in such a bad condition that I couldn't see her face. Her blood has gone into her eyes. 

But still, she went to open another victim who was in a worst condition other than her. Then she didn't stop and found a phone and called the police.  And finally, she fell. When we came to take the victim she opened, Sister Victoria was laying on the cold floor. The area she sat in was getting wet from her blood. Her eyes were open but unmoving. I thought she was dead but the continuous tears raining down her eyes told me just how much she was in pain. At that moment, it was the hardest to control my tears. I had never seen a woman so brave, so strong, so selfless, so cool who didn't hesitate to put her life in danger for us. The doctors said that because she was forced to wake up, she felt the pain a conscious person couldn't bear and when you feel that pain, then you won't faint until it lessons. It just increases until you die of that pain.

When after further investigation police found out about how Sister Victoria wasn't abducted but got herself abducted to save us, I felt like dying. I felt that all the victims combined weren't worth it for her to sacrifice herself. Every single day, I only pray for her to wake up. She deserves everything this world has to offer but because of us, she is there laying in the hospital.

Sister Victoria seems out of the league. She is heaven sent person. She wasn't meant to be like this... I just hope for her recovery... "
