Rhea's POV
It felt like it'd been another 5 hours...
It was only an hour though, when a doctor came out, the exact one that took Flo in for her surgery.
I was the first one off my feet, striding for him, Damien and few others followed but I was solely focused on him.
"Hello, You're here for Florence?" He asked.
"Yes." I quickly said. I felt Damien's hand rest on my shoulder.
"Great." He looked around to the group of people now in front of him. "Flo's surgery went well. I won't tell you all the details, unless you want them, but the bullet went clean through her stomach. Luckily, it didn't hit anything vital, but we've had to look inside and make sure. She's recovering now, you're welcome to see her but she won't woke up for a while still."
My heart actually felt like it was beating again. I could breathe again. The world was lifted off my shoulders.
As much as I wanted to see her and wait, I turned to Flo's parents. "You guys go see her." I told them.
"Nonsense, Rhea... You're worse then either of us." Her mother mumbled, holding my hand and looking to the doctor. "Can you take us to her?"
I smiled at her mother, and let her lead the way following the doctor. Behind me, her father followed us with an upset face.
My heart was picking up it's paces as he led us down the hall.
Why was I so damned nervous...
I didn't want to see her in pain. Out like that. I wanted to see her smile.
"She's just in here, let me know if you need anything." The doctor left us alone, and we went inside.
I automatically let go of her mothers hand at seeing her. Her mother began crying as she shuffled to sit beside Flo on the bed. She didn't touch her but was breaking down seeing her daughter so lifeless.
Flo was in a hospital gown, her hair a mess around her sleeping face. Emotionless. She was so still.
She didn't deserve this.
I slowly made my way to the other side of the bed, sitting down beside Flo.
Her father came and supported her mother, kissing her to try and calm her down.
I carefully held the hand Flo had resting on the top of the bed. She was so cold. Too cold.
"You know she saved me." I tell her parents. "This should be me. I'm so sorry you have to see this, I'm so sorry I wasn't there for her." I was so quiet when I said it.
Flo's father shook his head. "She's told us a lot of you Rhea, we know you'd do anything to keep her safe."
She's told her parents a lot about me?
Rheas mother added in a breaking voice. "I could hear the love she had for you in the way she talked about you... Flo would lay her life down for anyone she loves."
I shook my head and looked down, tears threatening to spill free. "She's so good... she's beautiful."
Her parents agree and they spend a good hour in here. Every now and then they'd tell me of this story of Florence growing up, making me smile a little. She was adorable, even growing up.
Fuck... I hated this.
A tiny part of me didn't want her to wake up anytime soon. I didn't want to see her struggle. In pain. But I needed to talk to her. I needed to tell her how much I loved her. How sorry I am for not being there. Again.
