Normal P.O.V

The events that happened in DioDelphi had completely shattered Erza and company. Erza had the responsibility to take care of Gems and Wendy and she failed. They completed the mission, thank to Gems, but at what cost?

Erza was ready to destroy the entire land which swallowed Gems, but Freed and Bickslow stopped her and told her that their first priority should be informing to their master, who could help them.

The entire trip back to Magnolia was silent. For the first time in years, Erza was scared to face Gray. She was scared that Gray might lose it. Gray had insisted on coming to the mission but they didn't agree about him going on board.

Meanwhile Freed was on his own guilt trip. He never got to properly apologize to Gems, he wanted to have that proper conversation, he wanted to open up to Gems about some things, Freed felt guilty for how badly he treated Gems back then.

It was a gloomy ride back. They couldn't see any signs of moon being in the sky. The weather was gloomy as well.

The more closer they were getting to the guild hall, it was getting hard for them to even face Gray and Makarov. Erza was ready to take all the blame on herself. Wendy and Charles tried their best to calm her down.

On the other hand, Gray was worried sick. It had been longer than it should've taken them to come back. He couldn't wait for Gems to come back and talk to him.

Gray had read the note Gems left for him, and was getting eager to talk to him.

“What's taking them so long?” Gray said while shaking his leg, he was getting impatient.

“If I am correct, they should be here anytime now.” Lucy said as they all were seated on a table, waiting for others to come back before they left for home.

“Things with Gems still rough?” Laki asked, out of concern. Gray just sighed and nodded.

“He doesn't talk to me.” Gray said as he just slumped on the table.

“It'll be fine, he's a teenager and we all know how many mood swings teens tend to have.” Natsu said.

“You know its real bad when Natsu starts making sense.” Laki spoke while snickering, Lucy laughed at that.

“I am just worried, because he's not as skilled as everyone else. He's still improving, and he's still got a lot more work to do and that's why I'm worried for him.” Gray said in a serious tone. “I always been on every mission that he has been, and whenever I saw danger... I've protected him.” he added with a sigh.

“Your big brother mode is on.” Lucy said. She was about to say something, just when the guild doors opened and there stood Erza and the others. Lucy's head turned towards that. “Oh look, they're back!” Lucy said with smile.

Gray immediately looked in that direction, he felt weird as he looked at everyone's faces. It looked like they had cried, and they looked exhausted, and most importantly he looked here and there to look for that one person, who wasn't with them, Gems.

“You guys are back...” Gray spoke happily as he got up and walked up to them, in the hopes of Gems might pop up from the back.

“How was the mission?” Gray asked casually, and looked here and there. “Where's Gems?” Gray asked.

“Gray...” Erza mumbled. Wendy and Freed looked away holding back tears.

“Is everything okay?” Mirajane asked as she came towards them, looking at the condition that they were in.
