Sage's eyes narrowed as she surveyed Blaine's Flareon as she could feel the heat from the Fire-type Pokémon radiating across the battlefield.
Sage knew this would be a tough fight but she was more than ready to face whatever Blaine had in store.
Blastoise use Scald!" Sage commanded with her voice filled with determination.
Blastoise responded instantly and unleashed a powerful blast of scalding hot water towards Flareon.
Flareon, counter with Flamethrower!" Blaine called out as Flareon fired a stream of intense flames at Blastoise's Scald.
The two attacks collided in mid-air, creating a thick cloud of steam that momentarily obscured the battlefield.
Blastoise use Aqua Jet!" Sage shouted.
Blastoise shot forward with lightning speed with its body surrounded by water and slammed into Flareon sending the fiery Pokémon crashing into the wall of the gym.
Flareon groaned from the impact but managed to get back up as it was clearly hurt but not out.
Flareon use Shadow Ball!" Blaine ordered with his voice tense with urgency.
Flareon roared and conjured a ball of dark energy and hurled it toward Blastoise.
Blastoise, dodge it now!" Sage instructed.
Blastoise quickly used Aqua Jet and zoomed out of the way of the incoming Shadow Ball as Sage quickly seized the opportunity to strike.
Blastoise use Scald again!" Sage shouted.
Blastoise unleashed another jet of hot water that hit Flareon directly.
The Fire-type Pokémon winced in pain as it was hit but Blaine wasn't giving up just yet.
Flareon use Flame Charge!" Blaine commanded.
Flareon engulfed itself in flames and charged toward Blastoise as it was ready to deliver a powerful hit.
Blastoise use Hydro Sphere!" she said, her voice steady.
Blastoise's eyes gleamed as but instead of using Hydro Sphere it used a move Sage immediately recognized: Aqua Tail.
The water tail struck Flareon head-on with tremendous force as the impact was enough to send Flareon skidding across the battlefield before it finally collapsed, fainted.
Sage's eyes widened in surprise as she hadn't expected Blastoise to learn Aqua Tail but it was a pleasant surprise.
She quickly checked her Rotom Phone, which buzzed and displayed the updated moveset for Blastoise:

Sage smiled to herself as she was pleased with Blastoise's growth as Blaine sighed as he was clearly disappointed that his Flareon had been knocked out so quickly.

It seems you're stronger than I anticipated. I have two more Pokémon left, though. Let's see if you can handle them" Blaine said
Sage prepared herself as she was ready for the next round as It was clear that this was going to be a battle to remember.
