The setter frowned and curled up as he slowly opened his eyes. He pushed himself up and rubbed at his eyes before stretching a little and looking around with a frown. He took out the earphones and shook his head, his hair messier after sleep. His gaze switched from the window to the floor to the phone to the blazer to Tsuki to back outside. Then, his eyes widened and he looked at Tsuki with hopeful and questioning eyes.
"Congratulations. You slept for more than an hour."
Kageyama looked genuinely happy that he had broken his long and horrible streak. Maybe listening to music was helpful after all. He stood up and stretched a little more before letting out a yawn. Tsukishima put his blazer on- since the evening air had turned cold- and put his phone and earphones in his bag.
They walked out and the middle blocker locked the door behind them. He went to head out of the school gates but stopped when he saw Kageyama looking up at something; he followed his gaze and saw there was a full moon shining brightly against the cosmic blue sky.
"It's really pretty." Kageyama stated.
"Sure."
Kageyama looked at him and gave a unamused face to which Tsuki sighed and turned to walk out of the gates. Kageyama followed him and, just like this morning, burrowed into his hoodie as the cool air hit his skin.
"You're fault for wearing shorts in autumn."
"It was sunny this morning!" argued Kageyama.
"Doesn't mean it's gonna be warm."
"Shut up."
Tsuki smirked, silently daring Kageyama to make him shut up. He watched as the setter grumbled into his hoodie and scuffed his sneakers on the pavement. Honestly, sometimes he acted just like a child.
"What time is it?" the setter asked. "My phone's dead."
"Almost 8."
"Shit! I have to go!" Kageyama exclaimed with wide eyes before setting off at a run.
"You're gonna fall over idiot!"
"Thankyou Tsuki!"
Tsukishima's eyes widened at the nickname again before a soft smile appeared on his face.
"You're welcome Kageyama."
He turned down his own street and walked home slowly, enjoying the quiet that surrounded him, only the faint sound of crickets interrupted the silence as cliché as that sounds. He called out to his mother that he was home and quickly ate the meal she had prepared before heading into the shower and changing into a fresh, clean pair of joggers and a tank top. He slumped down into his bed, only now realising how tired he was. Well, he had walked a few miles that day.
He made sure he had a drink of water on his bedside cabinet before double checking homework assignments and packing his bag for the next day. Then, he turned off his lamp and settled under the covers, drifting off into an easy, dreamless sleep...
