After that- cough, rather intense, cough- scenario, the pair headed back upstairs. Tsuki went to grab his uniform and saw a new message on his phone.
Time: 6:05AM
Daichi: I'll be at Ukai's store in ten minutes
That was 10 minutes ago. Crap. He looked over at the setter, who was already lying on the bed half-asleep, and said he was going to meet up with Yamaguchi to study. The setter nodded- glad that the blond would be spending time with other people- and tiredly warned him to put a scarf on.
The middle blocker was confused as to what the setter was referring to, but at Kageyama's small smirk and the raised brow when their eyes met, realisation hit and he borrowed a grey scarf from him.
He looked down at his phone and saw the time was 6:20AM. He pressed a short kiss to the younger's forehead- who simply rolled over and snuggled further into the covers- and headed out the door.
"I'll text you later." he called out before he shut the door.
Quickly walking to the store, he warmed up in the cool air. He saw Daichi standing outside and leaning against the wall with a coffee.
"Hey, glad you've come."
"Yeah."
"Do you want to get anything?" Daichi asked, gesturing to the store behind him.
"No."
They both began to walk very slowly towards the school; at first it was quiet between them. Tsuki felt the cold breeze coming in their direction and burrowed into the scarf, watching as his breath formed small clouds in the air.
"How is he?" Daichi finally asked as he had woken up more from the coffee. "He's stopped coming to school and practise. We all thought he was getting better."
"He..." Tsuki began before sighing. "It's a long story."
"We have all morning. Take your time." the captain added, seeing the worried expression on the blond's face.
"I guess, well, it's not really a short-term issue..."
Tsuki talked about everything and Daichi listened, not interrupting even when what he heard made him react strongly. The middle blocker told him about Kageyama's parents, his sister, his long-term mental health issues, his recent struggles with eating, his constant transitions from insomnia to hypersomnia and back, and his extreme lack of self-worth. He spoke about all of this with a frown on his face and ended up speaking for about an hour.
When he finished, Daichi was silent. He couldn't believe how much Kageyama had and was going through. He understood every word and action of the setter now and wanted more than anything to make him happy and protect him from the world.
He looked at the first year and saw a sad expression on his face, knowing he felt the same way. He pulled the first year into a quick hug.
"Thankyou for being there for him. But make sure to take care of yourself too."
"Hm."
They pulled apart and continued walking to school, Daichi explaining that the team hadn't had a full-hearted practise since Kageyama- and often Tsuki- had stopped showing up.
"You're both important to the team and mean a lot to all of us. I look forwards to the day we can all play together again."
The middle blocker nodded and they split ways at the school gate, Daichi to go and speak with Takeda about what Tsuki had told him, and the blond to head to his class, knowing there were often early stragglers at this time.
In the teacher's office, Daichi explained all that Tsuki had told him, the teacher listening and reacting in the same way he had. They both decided that for now they wouldn't tell the team anything, knowing it's not what Kageyama would want. But they tried to come up with ideas that would help the first year.
