"Good luck Kageyama! I know you're going to do well."

"Thanks." Kageyama said quietly, as he looked up at their coach in the gym.

After spending the night at Tsuki's, the setter took the next day off and mostly relaxed and studied. He spent some time cooking with Tsukishima's mother too, enjoying the comfortable atmosphere he missed in his own home. And when the blond returned home after a full day of school, he silently thanked his mother for bringing some light back to Kageyama's eyes.

They then spent the evening talking and cuddling in Tsuki's room, trying to distract the setter from his test tomorrow as he felt that returning feeling of dread and resignation appear.

"You'll be fine Tobio." the middle blocker assured, running a hand through the setter's hair knowing it calmed him down. "You've actually studied this time."

"Rude. I always study, I just don't do enough of it."

"And this time you've worked hard and I've helped you figure out what you're okay at and what needs improving."

"But-"

"If you fail it's not the end of the world." the blond assured.

"But everything makes it seem like it is. The teachers always say each test impacts our final grade and I have to do well to stay on the volleyball team and my parents will flip if-"

Kageyama cut himself off before he got to worked up. He hadn't seen his parents in days, he didn't want to think about them now. Tsuki saw the change in mood in the younger so cuddled him more and kissed him softly.

"You know I've said you can live here."

"But I don't want to get in the way..." argued Kageyama.

"You wouldn't be. My family like you- I think my mother loves you- and I know you like it here too."

"Yeah because there's no tension or arguing here. It's peaceful." the setter concluded with a sigh.

"At least think about it." muttered Tsuki, as the younger slowly fell asleep.

So now here they were, at morning practise in the gym, with everyone saying good luck as he did last minute cramming before his exam first thing. Honestly, he knew the team were trying to be encouraging but their constant cheers made him more nervous. It was just a test so why was it such a big deal?

Well, because this time he wanted to do well: not just for the sake of it but for himself.

As practise ended, he and Tsuki headed up to the first year corridor together; the middle blocker dropped him off at his classroom. He could see the ever-present tiredness on the setter's face but also something of determination, a ghost of how he looked in a match.

"You'll do well. I believe in you."

"Thanks, Kei. See you later?"

Kageyama didn't wait for a reply before heading into his classroom, sitting down and noticing the exam booklet on his table. Tsuki headed to his classroom at the other end of the hallway, a content look on his face as the setter used his first name.

His morning lessons passed and then break. As the midday lessons went on he heard a general talking and scraping of seats down the hallway, signalling the end of Kageyama's test. Now they had to wait whilst the teacher marked their papers one by one before they were allowed to leave.
