Now Kageyama knew why he had been haunted by that strange anxiety those past few days. It was because of his dad. Deep down, he knew it wouldn't be so simple, he knew from the first time that arresting his parents wouldn't do anything. He wondered if his mother was there too, of if she was being held somewhere else, or if she was the one who got his father the phone.
The more he thought about all of the different ways it could have happened the paler he grew. How did the get a phone? How did they have his contact? He knew they couldn't remember it since they never bothered to learn it. Were they not being watched by police officers or did they steal it somehow. Did they escape? Were they coming for him? Would they go after Miwa next? Tsuki? The team-
"Hey, are you alright?"
Kageyama snapped out of his gaze to find a concerned Yamaguchi sitting next to him. He looked around the gym and found the team were taking a break from their practise. He and Tsuki had stayed in the library that afternoon trying to get Tobio's panics under control. He took a moment to focus his gaze and to push away the headache growing in his head, before turning to the freckled boy.
"Hm."
"Are you sure? You were just all pale and shaking a little. Has something happened?"
"N-no."
"You stuttered."
"Did not."
"Did too."
"Did not."
"Look, you don't have to act strong if something is bothering you. We all promised we'd help you if you needed anything, remember?"
Kageyama was quiet and looked down at his lap; Yamaguchi studied his face, finding supressed traces of fear. Something had definitely happened.
"Look, if you don't tell me, then at least tell Tsuki. And if he already knows then tell Daichi."
Yamaguchi gave him a gentle pat on the shoulder before standing up and going to practise his serves with Hinata. Throughout the afternoon, Kageyama was completely distant from all of them. No calling his name or shouting at him nor gentle taps on the shoulder grabbed his attention, except the odd 'hm'.
The team were worried that something had happened and turned to Tsukishima to find out what it was. The blond wouldn't open his mouth and simply gestured to his phone: he would tell them later. Once practise was over, Daichi suggested they all go out for some food since they had improved a lot in that hour. The team agreed but Kageyama declined, not feeling safe enough to go out.
"You should go." he said quietly to Tsuki who was getting changed out of his gym clothes.
"I'm not leaving you until we found out how he managed to contact you."
"But you shouldn't-"
"You can't change my mind."
Kageyama knew this and yet he still insisted that Tsuki go out with the team and enjoy himself. The blond managed to hold his corner right until the setter gave in, not having enough energy to argue anymore, and he would feel safer with the older by his side.
As soon as they reached home, Kei's mother knew something was wrong by the looks on their faces. She told them to get changed whilst she made them some tea to feel better; both boys obliged without question. As soon as they were changed they went back downstairs and slumped onto the sofa with sighs.
"What has happened Kei, Tobio?"
Kageyama really didn't want to explain what had happened, so he cuddled closer to Tsuki who explained quickly that Tobio's father had rang him in school today, causing a small panic attack. Tsuki's mother was worried and agreed with the idea of calling the police. She offered to do it but they both knew Kageyama would have to speak to the officer eventually.
She gave them some alone time so went upstairs to do some reading, leaving the boys downstairs to take the next step by themselves. Tsuki had finished his tea yet when he looked down he found the younger's mug was still full. He looked at Kageyama's expression only to find worry and resignation.
"Do you want to call them now or later when you're feeling better?" the blond asked cautiously.
"... Now. Do you have the officer's phone number?"
"Yeah, hold on."
Tsuki went upstairs to grab his phone, returning immediately and letting the setter curl into his side as he rang the number. They waited a few tense seconds until the call was picked up.
"Hello?"
"Hello, this is Tsukishima Kei and Kageyama Tobio. Can we speak to the officer in charge of the case please?"
"Of course, please hold the line."
Really terrible instrumental music began to play that made them both cringe. Tsuki made a snarky remark about it that made the corners of the setter's mouth turn up, just a little. They had to wait for a few minutes before the officer picked up.
"Hello, this is Tsukishima and Kageyama."
"Of course, is anything the matter?"
"Yes. At lunchtime today Kageyama's father..."
Tsuki spent the next few minutes explaining what had happened, Kageyama sitting and listening quietly whilst the older conversed with the officer. They were then passed onto a detective who asked to speak to Kageyama.
"Kageyama Tobio?" the detective asked when the blond handed the phone over.
"Hello."
"Hello, I am shocked at the contact made today and we will find out how it has happened. I was going to call soon anyways with the results of the investigation. Would you like to hear them now?"
"Yes, please."
"Your parents have been found guilty of child neglect, verbal, mental, and emotional abuse. Your father has also been charged with domestic violence to your mother for agressive behaviour. They have also been found guilty of crimes under influence. Therefore, no hearing will need to be held and they will receive their sentences soon and go to jail..."
