The evening passed by easily, and with the TV on and the heating keeping them warm, Tobio and Kei stayed together on the sofa well into the night-time. They had almost finished the season and the phone call going on upstairs was washed out by the sound of the TV.
It was peaceful, as if everything else had been forgotten about in that small, mundane moment. But eventually the day began to catch up to them, Kageyama especially, and soon he was lying almost atop of the blond male, the TV becoming static in the background as he rested his eyes.
"Tired?" Kei asked quietly, running a hand up and down the setter's back.
Tobio hummed lazily, relaxing from the gentle warmth on his back. Any sort of contact from Tsuki made him feel safe and comfortable. And with the calming atmosphere around him, it was very tempting to just fall asleep.
He went through the day in his mind: the call, the visit, the café, dinner, and now. It seemed like so much had happened in the span of a few hours, and as if everything he had been through these past few months had led up to this. Maybe now he could finally move forwards. His sister, his friends, and himself were safe; he was starting to feel happy in his new home and with his new family.
And Kei, the damn stupidly handsome, salty, sarcastic, snarky, and intelligent idiot who was sitting next to him. He was the biggest reason he had gotten through all of this, the reason why everything was turning out alright. If he hadn't been so persistent in telling someone about what he was going through then maybe he would still be in that hell of a household...
"What are you thinking about?"
"Just stuff, don't worry."
"I'm more worried about Levi with that titan."
This made Tobio laugh, and he looked up to see a humorous expression on the blond's face.
"So you care more about a fictional character than me? I'm hurt."
"Oh be quiet. You know I care about you more than literally anyone or anything else on the planet." Kei stated.
"Even your dino plushies? And strawberry shortcake?" Tobio questioned with a raised brow.
"Yes. Even them."
"Well then, I'm honoured." the setter teased, putting a hand over his chest and wiping away a fake tear.
"Shut up." Kei whined whilst Tobio laughed again.
"Make me."
The blond raised a brow in question before a daring smirk appeared on his face. Leaning down he kissed Tobio, cupping his face as he deepened it. He could feel Tobio's damn grin on his own face so pulled back to see it. What? Could he not be a simp for his own boyfriend?
"I love you." Tobio suddenly blurted out.
Kei paused in surprise, and surprise was also evident in the setter's own blue eyes. He released a quiet sigh as if he had been holding that in for some time, and when he looked up he found Tsuki to also be stunned.
"Say that again." the blond whispered.
"I love you, Kei."
Kei kissed him again, this time with more passion at the sudden confession. Those damn three words spoken for the first time honestly made him feel like crying, but he put all of his own words into the kiss. A smile ghosted Tobio's lips but he returned the kiss just as passionately, knowing that now he had finally said 'I love you' he would be saying it a lot more. Because it was entirely and completely true.
"I love you too." Kei muttered into the kiss.
"Mhm. I know." confirmed Tobio.
"Good. Don't forget it."
"Never. After all, you're stuck with me, right?"
"A lowly commoner and his King. How romantic."
Tobio laughed with a shake of his head before kissing Kei once more. He didn't think he had ever felt so perfectly happy as he did in that moment; he hoped that from that day onwards, as long as he had Kei by his side, he would only get happier.
