He left the bathroom at 3PM.

He switched on his phone just in time to receive a text from Tsuki.

Time: 3:01PM

Tsuki 🧂: Practise is until 5PM tonight. You should come if you feel up to it. Hope you slept okay x

He decided he would go to the practise: it would be a change of scenery. He switched his t-shirt for a hoodie and carefully put it on. Then he changed his shorts for jeans to survive the cold weather and went downstairs; he grabbed a carton of milk to drink on the way before heading out the door.

The journey was short since he walked fast to combat the cold, so when he walked through the gates- stopping to put his empty carton in the bin- he was tired. He saw Takeda exit the school building and notice him. He kept his head down as the teacher walked over, taking a small step away when he tried to pat his shoulder. Takeda noticed this however, and forced himself to not let his smile slip into a frown.

"It's amazing to see you here Kageyama. Everyone has missed you."

The setter- if he could even be called that anymore- simply nodded and followed the teacher as he headed over to the gym. The older male slid open the gym doors to see the first years in there by themselves. Hinata was working on his serves alongside Yamaguchi whilst Tsukishima worked on his spikes, Yachi setting the ball to him.

He watched them all work hard and show focus before they noticed him. Immediately they headed over to him and asked how he was doing; Hinata begging him to return to practise. Their energy was overwhelming and he took a few steps back before hitting something hard.

"Hey, you're okay." Tsuki assured when the setter turned around and seemed a little put out.

Kageyama looked up at him and took a deep breath in and out with clenched fists. He hadn't realised how much he had felt the absence of the older that day and so- since there were few people around- lightly tugged on the blond's jumper. Tsuki looked down at this before realising, opening up his arms a little for the setter to step into, and wrapping his arms around his body when he did.

"You okay?" he asked in a gentle tone that took the other first years by surprise.

Kageyama nodded but they both knew it wasn't convincing. Hinata, Yamaguchi and Yachi headed back onto the court to give the pair some space, but looked over at an unusual sound.

Tsuki noticed the frown on Kageyama's face and wanted to help the setter out a little. Thinking back to the other day, he slowly moved his hands to the younger's sides- just by his ribs- and immediately Kageyama jumped. He grinned and began to tickle the younger, causing the setter to try and hold in his laughter. But Tsuki didn't cease and soon he was crouching then lying on the floor, laughing and trying to shout for the older to stop.

The first years watched the smiling, teary-eyed Kageyama with smiles on their faces too. Yet they didn't stare too long and soon enough Tsuki had stopped his tickle attack and pulled the younger off the ground by his waist.

The middle blocker asked if he wanted to sit down since he looked tired and the younger nodded before walking over to and sitting down on the bench, giving a light punch at Tsuki's ribs as payback before doing so.

"Try and not be so selfish. Heaven forbid there are things more important than volleyball." Tsuki said to Hinata before the second and third years walked in.

The sight of the setter sitting on the bench was a welcome one for the players and they all felt motivated to try hard in their practice. After stretching they began to work on basic receives for about half an hour before returning to work on serves. Noya enjoyed his libero practice and Kageyama could see that joy in his eyes, wondering if the older would lend him some.

After an hour passed they had a break and most went outside to cool off in the afternoon air. Kageyama watched as Tsuki walked over to him, sat down and asked what he had done that day.

"Nothing." the younger replied. "Lay down and didn't get up."

"Did you at least get some sleep?"

"A few hours."

""And yet you're still tired."

"And yet I'm still tired."

The blond lightly squeezed his hand- missing the wince on Kageyama's face- before he got up and practise resumed.

They decided to do a practise game, yet, it didn't hold as much energy and drive as before. There were lots of sloppy mistakes and out of time attacks. Serves hit the net and there was lack of communication. Who knew how the would fall apart without their control tower. Sugawara was trying his best and managed to pull a few of the points together but after being their reserve setter for so long he had forgotten how difficult the job was.

Daichi looked over to the first year and saw him pick up the notebook that had been left on the bench. This action also caught the eyes of several other players but it didn't pause the game. They watched as the setter opened a fresh page and held the pen tightly in his hand. He seemed to struggle with what to write, taking his pen on and off the paper before eventually shutting it and returning it to its original spot. He stood up and headed to the gym doors, sliding them open and heading out into the cold evening, not looking back.
