That evening Suga, Kageyama and Tsuki went on a small walk together around the school grounds. Well, it was more Suga and Tobio talking and the blond walking behind them, but still. Suga was worried about the first year's reaction and was worrying if letting him come to the training camp was the right thing to do.

"Put it this way, if he wasn't here there would be more questions." Tsukishima stated, and Kageyama nodded in agreement.

"True, but how do you want to approach this Kageyama?" asked Suga. "Telling them directly would be good but then again it's not any of their business, in the nicest way."

"I know."

"But not saying anything means this week is going to be really hard."

"I know." Kageyama repeated with a sigh, running a hand through his hair before wincing and holding his ribs.

"You okay?" Tsuki stepped in immediately, worry hidden in his eyes.

"Yeah. I think it was all the travelling, it made them stiff."

"If you're sure."

Tobio offered them a small smile before they continued walking. They wondered how to make this week easier for the setter, and decided that if he did light practise in the evenings then maybe the other teams would be less suspicious.

"We could just wait and let them find out. Not everything obviously, but like some stuff."

Kageyama sighed, starting to get a headache from the hectic day. Travelling, matches, that near panic, and now this. Suga saw this and they decided to head inside, stopping to get hot drinks from the cantine first. There, they found a serious-looking Daichi talking to a worried-looking Kuroo, and when they made eye-contact the captains gestured for them to come over.

"Before you get mad-" Daichi began, and dread began to fill Kageyama's stomach.

"I know." Kuroo interrupted.

"What?!"

"I didn't tell him anything!" Daichi stated with his hands up. "Honest, he figured it out. Well, Kenma did."

Kageyama was quiet for a long moment, looking down as he tried to sort out his thoughts and feelings. Every so gently, he felt a small tug on his hand under the table, and he subtly returned it before grabbing his boyfriend's hand. He sighed and looked up, saying:

"How much do you know?"

"Kenma said he kept seeing you hold your ribs. Then he said if you did it at practise we would all have been told. But we weren't so it was more serious than that. Then Kenma said he didn't think you were clumsy enough to do it to yourself so therefore it had to be... what happened?" Kuroo asked with the same worried expression.

"You don't have to tell him, he knows that." Daichi assured. "And he's also sworn not to tell anyone else."

Kageyama nodded and quietly explained what had happened as briefly as he could. He said his parents weren't exactly the best and they liked to take it out on him. He said the police may have been involved multiple times too. That was it. But it was more than enough for Kuroo.

"I- I'm sorry Kageyama. But hey, if you need another pair of fists to beat them up I'll join the long line."

This made Kageyama feel a little better and he said thankyou before announcing that he was tired. Everyone headed back to their dorms and got settled for the night; Kageyama felt a little better now that he had let out his story.

When he was getting changed he realised he had to change his bandages. He went into the small bathroom at the end of the hall and made sure it was empty before pulling off his hoodie, beginning to unwrap the white netting from his ribs. Once he pulled off the bandages he scanned his torso to look for any new bruises.

Tobio was getting used to seeing new ones every week or so, and the doctor had said that his ribs were still sensitive so even small movements could cause bruising. It had been a while since his last check-up and the doctor said that they should be nearing fully-healed by the end of the month. He couldn't wait to walk without pain again, but he knew the road to recovery was a long one.

He grabbed the roll of bandages off the side cabinet and had just started to pull off a fresh lining when the door opened. The setter's eyes widened and he turned to see who had walked in. It was Akaashi, and he looked just as shocked to see Kageyama as Kageyama was to see him. He nodded and walked over, scanning the bandages before speaking:

"Need help?"

"... Please."
