After his examination with the doctor, Tobio had said he was tired and ended up falling asleep on the middle blocker's shoulder as they sat together on the sofa. The visitors let him rest for an hour before asking him to speak to the psychologist.
During this light sleep, Kageyama's mind would not let him rest, and made him relive all of the horrid moments he had experienced. Not just from the night before, but his whole life. His breathing picked up and he closed in on himself; this immediately caught the blond's attention.
Tsuki ran his hand up and down the setter's back as he whispered sweet nothings softly until Kageyama's body untensed. He pulled the younger closer and placed a kiss against his forehead, trying to provide him comfort and warmth. Long minutes stretched by until the teen was calm again, leaning into the warm hand that brushed his cheek.
"Is he okay?" Sobo asked from the kitchen doorway, where she was stress-baking blueberry muffins like her life depended on it.
"Yes, thanks."
One of the visitors watched the interaction between the boys with analytical eyes before taking some notes in their notebook. But the hour passed, and Tobio was woken up to go and speak to the psychologist.
They both entered the bedroom and the setter took his seat on the bed.
"How are you feeling?" the psychologist began.
"That's a stupid question." he muttered to himself before answering. "Fine."
"Be honest."
"If I was honest... you'd send me to a therapist."
"Okay then. Can you tell me what you've been doing these past few days?"
"I've been skipping school. I- I can't deal with all the people, and the noise, and the stress... I can't sleep. Or I sleep too much. And my head always hurts and I'm so t-tired."
"And what about your friends?"
"They..." he thought back to his team, knowing he considered them (and the team him) his friends. "They're worried about me. I'm not going to practise... they're falling apart as a team."
"Okay. Can I ask how you feel when you're at home?"
"..."
"You don't have to be scared."
"But I am, when I'm at home. I wonder when my p-parents will come home and what state they're in. I- they come and go."
"How long do they spend away from home?"
"Days."
"And then they come back?"
"Yeah."
"And what about that boy?" he psychologist asked, gesturing to Tsuki beyond the door.
"He..."
"Is he a friend?"
"Yeah."
"Is he more than a friend?"
"..." Kageyama looked over to the door, as if he could see through it and see Tsukishima, who was talking with Sobo and eating a breakfast she had cooked up for him. "Yeah."
The psychologist smiled and wrote down a few notes of their discussion so far, leaving the boy in front of them to his thoughts for a moment.
"Can you tell me why you have bandages on your wrists?" they asked, knowing it was a sensitive question.
Kageyama's eyes widened, and he gripped onto the sleeves of his hoodie tightly. He took a breath in but found he couldn't get it out. The psychologist saw this and came over to him, patting him lightly on the back and telling him it was okay to let it out.
"I j-just wanted to feel s-something. Anything. I couldn't... I tried..."
"It's okay, it's okay. But will you let the doctor come in and check on them?"
"Okay."
The doctor came in and took off the bandages, making sure his wrists weren't infected before wrapping them back up, telling him to keep an eye on them and to talk to someone if he ever wanted to do it again.
The setter said nothing but looked down at the floor, feeling ashamed and unable to meet the pairs of eyes watching him.
"Is there anything else?" he managed to force out in a stable tone.
"No, you can-"
But Kageyama was already up and opening the door, accidentally slamming it behind him as he went over to the front door, opened it, and shut it loudly. Tsuki stood up and followed the setter, wanting to make sure he was okay, and to know what he had talked about with the psychologist.
