112 - Just Us

After staying on call for another half an hour, Kageyama and Tsuki left to go and help with dinner. It was a simple rice dish but the preparation took the longest. So, whilst Tobio focused on the vegetables, Kei was left with the fun job of prepping the fish.

"Having fun there?" the setter asked over his shoulder, seeing the disgruntled expression on the blond's face.

"A blast. Maybe you should give it a go too?"

"I'm good over here, thanks. You seem to be having too much fun."

"Ha ha." Kei deadpanned.

Tobio just laughed quietly and resumed chopping up the vegetables, sliding them into a pan to fry. Soon the fish joined another pan and they waited for it all to cook before adding in the rice. Kei's mother watched from the doorway with a soft smile before joining them in setting the table; she had a laugh when she announced that Akiteru would have to wash up all of the dishes.

"What?! But I'm going out later. I need time to prepare!"

"Prepare what? Trying to impress someone?" she asked with curiosity.

"N-no, it's just an old friend from high school. She contacted me the other day and we're going out for a meal with some other friends. No big deal!"

"Mhm. Well you can always text me if you need any advice."

"Mom!"

Everyone at the table chuckled at the flustered expression on Akiteru's face, and couldn't help but tease here and there about how little time left he would have to get ready if he was doing all those dishes.

"I hate this household." the eldest sibling mumbled under his breath as he aggressively scrubbed at the frying pan.

Giving a playful nudge to her son, Kei's mother put out a few desserts she had brought earlier, as well as the treats from Sobo's café. She really loved the orange and cranberry, and declared that she would have to go and meet the inventor soon.

Tobio grabbed a slice of cake and a carton of milk, Kei doing the same but with a coffee before they retreated into the living room for the evening. Kei's mother declared that she was going to make a call to her sister but would join the boys for a movie later on.

"Okay. Tell auntie I said hi."

"Will do Kei!" she exclaimed as she headed upstairs, balancing a coffee and muffin in one hand whilst typing on her phone with the other.

"And then there were two." the blond stated before releasing a long sigh.

"I like your family. And spending time together."

"Try living with them for sixteen years. It gets tiring."

"Hm. So, what do you want to watch?" the setter asked as he flicked through the different channels.

"How about a horror?"

"Not again! I can never sleep properly after watching one of those."

"Then what about a horror anime? That can't be as bad."

"Action. That's a compromise."

"Fine." the blond agreed.

"Good. AOT it is. We never finished the season off." Tobio pressed play on their recent episode.

"True. But I hate the fact that you're a Jaegerist."

"Can you blame me? Them? The whole world is trying to destroy them for doing literally nothing! Eren is only fighting back; we know there can never be true peace." Tobio stated with passion.

"I still think it's because season 4 Eren is hot." Kei said with a shrug.

"True. But,"  Tobio agreed as he slumped down on the sofa, "I still think he is right. Maybe a bit extreme, but it's better than sitting around and waiting to be killed."

"I can't argue with that. But turn it up a bit, I don't really want to hear my mother and my aunt on the phone. They shout so loud it's as if they aren't on speaker in the first place."

Tobio turned it up and leaned into the blond's side, Kei automatically putting an arm around the setter's shoulders as he had a sip of his coffee. They vibed to the opening soundtrack, which at first they hated but had now grown on them, and settled into a comfortable quiet as they watched AOT. They were about halfway through the season, and what better way to forget about the crazy day they had had by binge-watching ten episodes of anime?
