The 'last time' also didn't sound very good to the team, and they sat waiting for the siblings to join them in the living room. Some sat on the floor so they could both sit on the sofa. Kageyama was the first to pull away and asked if she wanted anything. She said she needed some water after all that crying and went to meet his team whilst Kageyama went into the kitchen, allowing himself a moment before getting her some water.
He walked inside the room and found his sister was introducing herself to everyone; they all commented on how alike they look.
"We get it from our grandfather."
"Not your-"
"No. Our grandfather has the same bright blue eyes as we do. And the hair too."
The setter handed Miwa the glass before he was pulled down onto the sofa beside her, letting out a wince.
"Oh no, what did I do?"
"N-nothing, just..." He leaned his head back against the headrest whilst wincing at the pounding in his skull.
Miwa saw the bruises and looked at the boy with the glasses for an explanation.
"Concussion."
"Oh, should I be a little quieter?" she asked her brother who gave a thumbs up.
After his head hurt a little less, Kageyama pulled himself up onto the sofa and leaned against his sister, using her shoulder as a pillow. She began to run a hand through his hair as if on instinct; it was natural after how often she did it when he was a kid.
"How is your grandfather?" Kiyoko asked.
"Dead." Kageyama muttered.
"Oh. I'm so sorry." the manager apologised with a bow of the head.
"It's okay, it was a while ago now." Miwa assured, and her warm smile put the other female at ease.
"So, where do you study?" Daichi asked, trying to start a conversation.
"I'm in Tokyo at the moment. I'm majoring in make-up and hair production."
"That sounds so interesting!"
"Thankyou, um... Noya is it?"
"Yeah, how'd you know?"
"Tobio's mentioned you all once or twice." she looked down at the setter who gave a small shrug. "There are some questionable stories I've heard."
"They're all true. I mean..." Kageyama trailed off, gesturing to the unruly bunch.
"What's that supposed to mean?" Tanaka asked whilst the third years laughed a little.
"So anyways, I started college just over a year ago now..."
Miwa began to talk about her college life and gave some advice to the third years about how to choose the right place for them. But the second years told them it was too early to think about college, they had to go to Nationals first.
Some of the stories she told were new to the setter, but eventually he felt fatigue creep up on him. Always at the most inconvenient times, he thought. He got comfortable on the sofa and glanced over to Tsuki who gave him a reassuring nod and smile before he fell asleep.
Miwa paused during one of her stories and let out a sigh of relief when she saw her brother had fallen asleep. She put down her empty glass on the coffee table and placed a kiss against his forehead.
"You said he'd not been sleeping well?" Miwa asked Tsuki.
"It comes and goes."
She nodded and gave another sigh.
"I suppose you all have questions."
"Yes." Daichi began. "What is 'it'? Earlier you said 'it' came back."
"Tobio's mental health has always been shaky. Anxiety, depression, insomnia, it's nothing new for him. He's been struggling for as long as I can remember, but it mainly started when our parents began to mistreat us. Turning to drugs and alcohol because they didn't want to take care of their children anymore."
"Oh, that's why he gets so sad and quiet sometimes?"
"Hm, I don't think even he realises it sometimes."
"And what about 'last time'?"
"I reported our parents to the police three years ago, but nothing happened because we were simply sent to our grandfather. Our mother had been drinking and threw a bottle at me- just missing my face- and hit Tobio's head against the wall. He actually fell into a coma for three days."
"Oh my gosh..."
"Yeah." Miwa agreed, taking a minute to compose herself. "But when our grandfather fell ill and we were sent back to our parents, it got worse. With school, our parents, grandfather... it all was too much for him. But when our grandfather died it got better. At least, it did at home. Tobio was broken by his death and so the things I heard happen in middle school were... his team knew nothing about what he was going through and didn't support him when he needed them. Anyways, I think our parents were nicer because they knew next time they would be going to jail."
"And then you left for college?"
"Yeah. I didn't want to but Tobio told me to go. He said I deserved a new start and he promised me he would be okay. And he was... for a while."
