Fidgeting in his chair from sitting in it intensely focused for so many hours, Kageyama looked over at the clock and saw that it was twenty minutes until lunch break. Wow, that was a long test; he hoped the teacher would mark his near the start so he could leave earlier. He tried to distract himself with thoughts of volleyball and the new attacks he wanted to try with the team when he started practise again, but his eyes drew back to the clock that seemed to tick even slower than it did during his exam.
At last- just as the lunch bell rang- his teacher called him up to the front of the classroom and handed over his paper. A look was on their face that the setter hadn't seen before, so he cautiously took his paper before slipping out of the room. The hallway was still quiet as the first years were finishing up their lessons, so he leaned against the wall and took in a huge breath. He slowly exhaled as he flipped over his paper.
It was safe to say he almost dropped the paper onto the floor.
His eyes widened as he read and re-read the score in the top right corner of his page, the red ink becoming more and more realistic in his vision. He instantly made his way to the gym room where the team had decided to have an extra- but optional- practise that lunchtime. Secretly however, it was so they could find out how the setter had done on his exam.
He took his time walking throughout the hallways, wanting to arrive when some people were already there. He knew more students were out and about now as there was the general school noise surrounding him of footsteps and chatter. When he slipped outside he allowed himself a moment to breathe the fresh air before walking across the courtyard and to the club room.
He knew people were in there because of the loud and familiar voices that he could hear as he made his way up the stairs. When he pulled open the door, five heads greeted him, their faces all turning into ones of anticipation.
"So, how'd it go?" Daichi asked, as he stood up and headed over to the setter.
Kageyama looked down at his paper and the team immediately thought it was bad news. They watched as the youngest tried figure out what to say but eventually ended up just handing the paper over face down.
Daichi looked to his side, seeing a apprehensive looking Suga, before he turned over the paper and looked at the mark.
"Oh my god." the vice-captain said quietly.
"Yeah." Daichi agreed before looking up and seeing a minute smile on Kageyama's face.
"What did he get?" Noya asked as he jumped up to see over Daichi's shoulder.
"An A-."
"Holy shit!" the libero exclaimed.
"You smashed it!" Tanaka cheered as he tackled the setter in a hug, everyone soon joining in whilst Kageyama stood there a little taken aback.
During their loud and cheering group hug, the door slid open again to see three more figures. Yamaguchi, Tsukishima, and Hinata all appeared, eyes wide at the group hug. Hinata immediately asked what they were celebrating and Daichi simply said very good and well-deserved news.
The team all eventually pulled off of the slightly suffocated setter, returning to their lunches and talking about how proud they were of him. Daichi handed Kageyama his paper back and he headed over to the middle blocker who was still standing in the doorway.
"So?" began Tsuki. "How'd it go?"
Kageyama looked down to hide his grin, handing over the paper to the middle blocker who looked at it for a while. A moment later, the setter looked up to see a blond male trying to hide the smile on his face too.
"Well then."
"Well then indeed." echoed the younger.
"I told you that there was nothing to worry about. You got a freaking A-, that's amazing."
"You think?"
"Yes. And how are you feeling?"
"... Happy. And relieved."
"Good. You deserve it."
Saying this, Kageyama let out a content sigh before taking back the paper and putting it in his bag. He looked over and saw that everyone had begun to change into their gym clothes for practise. A hand slowly taking his made him turn his gaze to the older.
"Want to ditch?"
"You would?"
"Totally, I think we should celebrate. Besides, Ukai did say it was optional."
Kageyama considered for a moment before a smirk appeared on his face. He turned to head out of the doors before asking:
"Will you buy me milk?"
Tsuki shook his head with a smile before joining Kageyama, both beginning to head back down the stairs.
"Yes. And curry buns."
"Really?!" the younger asked excitedly as they made their way out of the gates; the middle blocker nodded and this made all the hard work worth it.
"Hey, where are Kageyama and Tsukishima?" Asahi asked as he appeared.
Half of the team shared knowing looks whilst the other half were left confused. At last, Daichi said that the practise was optional and that the pair had probably gone to celebrate.
"By themselves?" Hinata thought, thinking about the amount of time the pair had been spending together recently. "Hmm... Oh... Were they..."
