"Hello Kageyama, my name's Dr Ruzaki." the doctor greeted with a kind smile, gesturing for the boy to sit on the bed whilst they sat on the armchair.
"Hey." Kageyama greeted quietly.
"I understand you've been through a lot last night. And through the past few weeks also. Can I ask you a few questions?"
The setter nodded his head, looking down at and fidgeting with his hands.
"First, have either of your parents physically abused you in the past?"
"..."
"A hit or kick? A punch?"
"N- not more than the average parent when their kid misbehaves. Although-" the setter cut himself off and cursed himself for stuttering.
"Although? You can tell me, it's alright."
"One time... my mother was drinking really- really bad. And my sister and I, w-we were hiding upstairs and my dad was out. She found us and she... she threw the bottle and it hit- it hit my sister."
"And then?"
"Then she hit my head against the w-wall. I think Miwa- my sister- called the police... when my mother passed out."
"And what about verbal abuse? Emotional? Mental?"
"That's not your job, is it?" Tobio asked, looking up at the doctor with eyes that almost dared them to keep asking those questions.
"No... there is another person here to ask you those questions." they agreed and dropped the subject.
It was quiet for a moment whilst the doctor wrote notes on their clipboard. Then they asked him to take off his hoodie. Kageyama tensed up and shook his head, before wincing again at the pain in his skull.
"Have you had any knocks to the head?" asked the doctor as they came over and sat next to the boy.
"Yeah."
"Okay, let's start there."
Relieved that the truth could stay hidden a little longer, Kageyama let the doctor instruct him on where to look and what to do as she looked into his eyes and checked his skull for any abnormalities.
"Well, you do have a concussion. The blond boy was right."
"Huh?"
"The lady who lives here, she told us that the blond boy said you might have a concussion from head trauma, and he was right."
"Oh."
"Yes, so I suggest no extreme physical movements for a few weeks, and to relax as much as possible."
"Okay..."
After this, the setter had no choice but to take off his hoodie. His skin was pale and littered with bruises. Patches of purple, blue, green and yellow spread across his torso and chest, matching the ones around his neck. When he turned around there were red marks all along his back signalling blunt force.
The doctor tried their best to keep a neutral expression as they checked all of the injuries, finding trauma on the ribs that had to be bandaged up and small cuts that had needed antiseptic to prevent infections. Kageyama tried to keep in his groans and shouts but when the doctor tightened the bandages around his ribs he let out a small grunt.
"Sorry. This will only make it heal faster."
They then did the same check on his legs and found a purple bruise all around his right ankle, like he had been dragged. Kageyama was asked if he could remember how this happened but all he knew was that he passed out by the door and woke up by the stairs.
"You were most likely dragged. The person who did this had large hands and a strong grip, they match the bruises on your neck.
"My dad.... h-he did it."
The doctor nodded and said everything was okay, he could get back changed and go back to the living room. As soon as the setter had left the room, the blond stood up and headed over to him, asking if he was alright.
"I heard you shout and it sounded painful. Are you okay?"
"I..."
Honestly, he wasn't okay. And who knew how long it would take until he was, so there was no point in hiding anything. He lifted up his hoodie enough to show the bandages on his ribs, the bruises around them still visible. The middle blocker took a slow breath in and out to contain his rising anger and said he was sorry if he made the younger uncomfortable.
"You didn't do anything." assured Kageyama.
They sat back down on the couch, and Tsuki explained that the policeman had asked him some questions about Tobio. He explained that he didn't know too much about what was going on but that he was struggling with sleeping and eating as well as being afraid of his parents. This made the younger frown so the blond hugged him.
"It's gonna be okay soon. I promise."
Kageyama looked up and pressed a soft kiss against the older's lips before leaning their heads together and closing his eyes.
"I always feel safe with you." he whispered, and Tsuki smiled.
"You always will be. I'm not letting you go again."
