"Strawberries and Cigarettes by Troye Sivan." Kageyama read off the phone screen.
"It's a good song."
"I'm sure it is." Kageyama said softly before shutting his eyes and letting the music ease him off to sleep.
Kageyama had fallen asleep before the song had even repeated itself once. His breathing evened out and his body was relaxed; Tsuki found himself letting out a sigh of relief. He just listened to the music and watched the time tick by. This was what he would usually do in the mornings anyways, just at home instead of school.
It was just reaching 7AM- meaning the other members would be slowly arriving soon- when Kageyama stirred. Tsuki thought he was going to wake up and went to stop the music but the setter's eyes never opened. Instead, he curled up and frowned as if trying to hide or protect himself from something. He let out a small whimper and had a pained expression on his face.
Tsuki froze for a moment not knowing what to do. It was one of those rare instances where his body reacted before his mind and he wrapped an arm around Kageyama's shoulders and pulled him closer. He gently ran one hand through the jet black locks and hushed him gently. At first, the setter tensed up and froze but he seemed to realise he was safe and relaxed, leaning into Tsukishima's warmth.
At this point, Kageyama's head was lying just under the crook of Tsuki's neck and their legs were tangled together. But the older didn't care, he was just focusing on keeping the younger calm until his breathing evened out again.
And it did. Painfully slow minutes passed and eventually Kageyama seemed to go back asleep. Tsuki untangled the earphones and put both pairs to the side, wanting to be able to hear if the setter had any more nightmares. He wondered how many nights Kageyama had suffered from nightmares and woken up scared and afraid. The idea made his stomach clench.
He looked up at the sound of footsteps. The club door slid open and standing there was Hinata, his face as red as his hair due to cycling in the cold. He saw Kageyama was asleep and so shut the door quietly to not let the cold air in.
"How long have you been here?" Hinata asked as he stood by the heater, grateful it was already on and the room was warm for changing.
"About half an hour."
"But coach said not to get here early."
"I know." Tsuki stated before adding hesitantly. "He didn't sleep last night."
"What? But he was alright yesterday, right?"
"Yeah."
"Well, make sure you don't tire yourself out too." Hinata said as he began to get changed.
"I get up early anyways so it makes no difference."
"Does Kageyama know that?" asked the ginger.
"He feels guilty."
"Of course he does." began Hinata. "He feels guilty when anyone spends any of their time and attention on him. He may not show it but he's insecure."
"Hm."
"Well, I'm going to practise my serves and don't miss school today or else Kageyama won't be happy."
"Since when do I take orders from you?"
"You don't. You take orders from him." Hinata pointed at Kageyama and grinned before slipping out of the club room.
When the door slid shut Tsuki sighed and checked to see if the setter was still asleep. He wasn't, well, not really. His eyes were open partly and he looked like he was staring into nothing.
"Are you okay?" asked Tsuki quietly.
"... I'm sorry."
