It was not unusual with his luck to end up in situations that caused Merlin to question what he had done to deserve this. One of those was him getting cursed. It wasn't a curse that could be changed until someone would figure out that it was him. Obviously, it would not be that easy, after all, he got turned into being a doll.
It was these kinds of dolls that were gorgeous. At least that was what he assumed, as he hadn't been able to see his reflection yet. Worse was that because he was stuck in a doll, he did not really sleep, yes zone out, but that was it. Another thing was that he could not feel anything or smell anything at all. Neither could he taste anything, it was not good for his mental health for sure. Making him know that he would just be as an inanimate object like anything else was. After all, a doll does not need smell, taste or feel.
Then again the people that found him in the attic -which by the way sucked and was creepy in itself to be stuck in a dark place-, had been giving him to a little girl who said that the doll was gorgeous. Leading him to feel flustered on the inside. The worst was that Merlin could do nothing but let the girl do as she pleased with his doll body.
It was for sure embarrassing, but nothing could be done about this. At least the girl was being careful with him and the clothes that she gave might be pretty, but the issue was that they were dresses. A thing that he did not like too much, but also knew that he could do nothing to stop her from continuing to change him into different dresses.
But there was this thing that everyone in the family realized was that his hair was growing. The parents for sure were creeped out, yet because of the pleading of the girl, he was able to stay with them. It would for sure not be a good thing to be thrown out.
The thought alone of this made his blood turn to ice. At least so he was safe instead of getting destroyed. Right now his body was for sure different then when he was in his uncursed one. A sigh went out on the inside as she was taking him everywhere.
Worse was that the girl even gave him a name that made him feel embarrassed. The name that was chosen was Evelyn. It was strange to be called this, but Merlin knew that he could not communicate to her. Merlin could not remember what the spell was and he felt the fear that this would cause him to be thrown out or worse destroyed.
"Mom, I want to have that doll to stay in our family, can we do that?" The little girl called Sophie stated suddenly with her soft voice.
"I mean, we can, but why?" The mother asked with puzzlement, clearly not getting why the girl asked this random question.
"Because the doll would feel sad and I also feel like she would be scared to be left. It would also be because of her feeling lonely."
As soon as this left out of the girls mouth, the parents had eye contact for a moment, and Merlin on the other hand was shown that this girl seemed to had picked up on his fear of being left alone. Not to mention that Sophie mentioned the sadness that he had felt about being left alone. Then the loneliness. It was something that he never liked and he missed his friends and family a lot.
By now it was years since he had last seen them, to be precise 300 years. That alone was why he was trying to avoid people, out of fear what would happen, and for a good reason. The witch that cursed him 100 years ago, left him in this state.
"Alright, hun. The doll will stay in our family from now on."
As soon as this was said he felt relief and the girl smiled broadly as looking down at him, with arms holding him a bit closer.
"Evelyn did you hear? You will never have to fear being alone?" The innocent appointed question to him would had made him for sure freeze and probably start crying when he would not be in a doll's body. Because of this, Merlin could do nothing to appreciate the little girl.
The little girl continued playing with him and soon the girl started to get older, and with this he was put on the shelf, which was boring. He watched Sophie getting older and older and since then indeed he was given to the children of the family.
