A|N this has nothing to do with the animation Ice age but the ice age of our past. Thought I mention this to you all before this starts.

Oh, and when someone is saying something in the time of Ice age it's written this way. With this hope, you will enjoy this one-shot.

It had not been intentional but as soon as Arthur's breath left the other, he started to scream and sob wanting his friend back. The male that had been his other half, the one that he fell for a thing that he sadly just now realized. There was even the forgiveness of Arthur and acceptance that he had magic.

Now he would never be able to bicker with the other. Never tell Arthur how much he really cared and regret never having told the other. Worse was that the damn dragon told him that Arthur would come back, but there was no way.

He wants- No needs him back now. His breath shuddered as tears flew and sobbed onto the male not caring about his surroundings. Merlin could not care about him being killed right now with how he would never see his friend ever again. Something broke when the male died in his arms.

That thing was something that led his magic to explode and with this, he fell unconscious not knowing what would come to him when waking up...

The bitterly cold wind was the first thing that he felt. It was a stark contrast to what he was used to and made him wonder how this had suddenly become that cold. It was confusing him and making him shiver as whining. His body felt too cold to handle this coldness and so his magic started to warm his body by changing his clothes into something suitable like fur and even warming his body to make sure that he would not get cold any longer.

With this, he whimpered as feeling the sharp tingling that was almost too much for his body to handle worse. His eyes cracked open and blinking a few times. It was not the same place that he had been. There was no Arthur, no woods or the trees he saw were too little to call them woods, nor were they looking like the trees that he knew, and the rest is all but grass that was all that he could see stretched out.

His eyes looked further around and blinked a few times seeing that it was too cold for it being the season that it should be spring. It felt more like winter and that confused him as there was no snow even though it was for sure cold enough.

He shook his head as curling himself into a ball and pulling his big cloak over him, making this way better. Merlin would have to wait until morning to see what to do next, but for now, he needed sleep. Which was weird as he should not feel that tired in an open field like this.

Merlin woke up by the sudden danger that his magic felt. In an instant, his eyes snapped open and staring widely at the big tiger-like creature that has two massive teeth on each side. They could rip him apart and Merlin knew better than run away, with an animal this big.

Yet it also confused him not getting why he was smaller than the massive cat. But Merlin also knew that he needed to make himself submissive not to die. His body shook and even without him wanting to let out whimpers and now that he was fully awake they sounded young. Way too young for his liking and when looking down, he realized why...he was back to his toddler age maybe 1 or 2 years old.

He was confused about this and couldn't know how this came to. His brows furrowed and he stared with wide eyes as the massive cat started to get closer and closer to him. His body shuddered and he whimpered in fear.

How could he not fear this animal who is way bigger than he was. he was maybe the height of a leg when not smaller when he would stand up. Merlin knew that there was no way that he would survive this at all. Leading him to wait for what the massive cat would do.

As they were in front of him, their head went down and his nose onto his neck sniffling on him. This alone made him freeze not moving an inch knowing now that he will die. His eyes clenched close and tilted his head to show his submissiveness. He knew better than thinking he could defeat this big cat. Not when he was a toddler.

To his panic, he felt on the back of his neck being softly bitten by his clothes. His body shuddered and he let another whimper thinking that this was it, but then he remembered again that the cat was biting him like he would be a newborn kitten.

So he sacks down and let him be carried somewhere. He wasn't sure where they were going, but he also felt calmer now knowing that they were not going to eat him. Merlin could feel his stomach let out a growling sound, making him know that he was hungry and the tiger glanced down and making him know to see how blue the eyes were.

They were deep-sea blue eyes and hold some intelligence. Whatever had happened to make the tiger choose him not to eat was an early memory that he held when he was that age, befriending many animals.

Seems like him being a young toddler brought this trait fully back. Either way, this protected him from being eaten for sure. There was a rumbling sound coming from the cat and Merlin could tell that they were trying to soothe him.

Making him let out a sigh as feeling himself relax further. It was so easy to relax into the hold and he kind of enjoyed not having to worry about anything. They might not be human beings but it did not matter right now to him.

For Merlin animals were always easier to handle than humans. They accept your very being usually and he was fed up with everything. Probably why he was accepted by the cat. Then he was in front of a whole bunch of big cats and tensing up as their attention was now on his. He was carried towards a smaller species and was put slowly on the ground.

His eyes stared widely at this one and he was nudged towards his belly and making let out a confused sound, not getting what they were trying to make him do. Until seeing a baby cat nudge itself onto one of those bumps. He flushed deeply as wanting to shake his head, but he was hungry, and he knew that he wouldn't be able to get any other food with how small he was. There was no way he would survive otherwise and so he tried to lift himself up but had difficulties. Leading the cat to go down to make it easier for him, to his relief.

Let's just say that this was embarrassing but filling for him. As well as strange, but because of him being a small toddler he was throwing out his caution fully. Why should he not trust them, when they hadn't done any harm to him. No, they accepted him, and was it too much to ask for some comfort after what he went through?

He slipped his thumb into his mouth and sucked on it contently as curling onto the belly after eating and falling asleep. Hearing the rumbling sound of the cat was for sure soothing him.
