The time that Merlin had left was the time when Arthur had died. None could stop him and everyone knew that he was not able to stay. His heart was too much in pain and all he wanted was to be left alone. A reason why he had yet to meet up with his mother and knowing her age, it was clear that he would have to visit a lot more now.

It has been 10 years since then. Another big thing was that Camelot had started to bring back magic and the reason for that was Gwen. The female had done this for sure after all the suffering that they went through and even heard that she made a peace treaty with his kind. It was at least helping to soothe some of the pain that he went through.

Yet it wasn't the worse, but the fact that he had as well lost Gwaine. The male had been there for him and making sure that he was always taken care of, yet now that he was alone he could not bear to see any of his friends. Merlin felt that this had been his fault that Arthur, Gwaine, and many more had died.

A frustrated growl went out as he destroyed another stone out of pure anger. It was not fair that he lost the person that had been his destiny. There was not often that he had any positive emotions and most of the time there was this numbness that he felt. The only thing that was there was the pain of loss.

A sigh went out after looking at the broken stone. It was nothing new that he got destructive with his sudden anger burst. Merlin continued staring without any emotions at all. He thought about all the things that had happened and wondered what he should do now.

There was nothing left for him, so maybe he should put himself to sleep until Arthur would come back. With this thought, he went to all the people and made sure that they got the letter. They might not understand why, and Merlin could not care about this.

With this, he went to a cave, closed this off until Arthur would be shown to this cave, and then transfigured the place to something that would be comfortable for him to lay on. Merlin as well made sure that when seasons would start getting colder the room would be warm enough to make sure he would freeze, nor would he feel the heat from summer as the room would regulate the temperature.

The spell that he used would make his body be preserved so he would not feel hunger or thirst. As looking around he was satisfied with the finished product. He went over to the transfigured comfortable nest and curled into himself, closing his eyes and using the spell and all went dark.

Arthur's pov

It was the year 2050, and Arthur had just recently got his memory back. The reason was because of him dying. There had been a mass death (and no it's not Covid), of a virus that made people eat others.

There was no one left and the people that were bitten ended up biting others and so on. By now it was for sure 10 years since his death and people by now were decomposing and leading to the infected dying as well. It was now that there were no people that he was unsure what to do.

Arthur knew for sure that there was no one left, after all the only reason why he was alive now was because of the awakening of his magic. He genuinely felt bad now that he had his memories back. Merlin had been hurt for sure about his comments and he knew that he would never see him again. The thought of this made his heart ache.

With shuddered breath, he walked towards a direction that his magic was leading him to. It was something new and made him wonder why his magic was telling him to go through the woods. His eyes furrowed after staying in front of a cave.

The cave held someone in there, from the magic protection surrounding this, but it made him wonder who it was. His eyes glanced around before stepping inside and instantly feeling his magic tug to get further inside.

At first, he wanted to leave but then decided against it. When there might be a person left, he couldn't hesitate, or else this might make him lose his mind. So, with this, he stepped further in, and as soon he was met with someone curled into themself.
