Modern age. Where Merlin ends up getting bewitched by Mordred and gets abused. Arthur comes at some point comes back/ remembers. As well with bestie Gwaine and finds out. Let's see how that will go. An obvious warning that there will be abuse mentions and manipulation.

Merlin was by now finished with work and hummed softly. What is his work? Well, he works at his coffee shop which he bought himself and it is near the Avalon lake. He loved to gaze out. There were many hardships he met. And one of them was the black plague. Then there was the first war and then the second one who was much more gruesome in his eyes. So many people had lost their lives and it was something that he could never talk about.
It was way too gruesome and who could he tell, that he was actually there all these times? No one as he knew that no one would believe him. It got lonely and god does he miss Arthur. His heart longed for him, but so far he had never come back. Merlin wondered why Arthur never came at these times. The world needed him, or at least that was what he believed.
His cafe is rather known now and people always love it. No one really was thinking about him looking young and not changing age. Because they don't care. No one really cared. A sigh escaped as today was rather quiet and no one was coming. That was until the familiar bell ring was heard. His head snapped into the direction and they widen. Seeing a black-haired and green-eyed male. A male he wasn't wanting to meet ever again. Eyes narrowing now and this male looked at him with a solemn look.
"Emrys, I am sorry."
A fierce glare was given to this male and the male looked more guilty now. How dare Mordred suddenly appear and say his apology to him. This apology doesn't change that he killed the person who meant so much to him. It doesn't change that he's lost his king, his purpose, the person he fell to see as well as a good friend, and as a person who he fell in love with. It was thanks to Mordred that Arthur wasn't alive anymore and got killed before he managed to do anything.
"Don't. I don't effing care about your apology. He meant everything to me and you took him away. Apologies won't get him back to him, Mordred."
His voice held an ice-cold tone, and his eyes held the same fierce glare.
"I know, I don't deserve your forgiveness, Emrys. But please let me make it up to you."
He breathed out as pinching the prink of his nose. Merlin could see how much the person in front of him was feeling guilty. Maybe, Mordred had changed and maybe he should give him one chance.
"Fine, you will work here. I don't forgive you yet. You need firs to make up for it. This is your last chance. Mess this one up and you won't ever get forgiveness with me."
The male in front of him nodded and looked now relieved. With this, they started to work on his work plan. The rest of the day was talked and he as well listened to his side of the story. As well as the reason why he has done this, and could kind of understand it. Of course, it was wrong what he has done, but he couldn't blame him too much for this. An understanding came between them.

As it was evening he walked up to his apartment which was on the second floor. A tired and weary sigh escaped. Never had he thought to see Mordred and never had he thought to see him again? A yawn stifled as he made his way to bed, of course, not without first brushing his teeth and changing into his pajama. He laid down and pulling the cover-up as slowly dozing off.Merlin was exhausted that he hadn't realized that someone entered his apartment and hadn't realized that someone was putting something around his neck. As well that someone whispering something under his breath. A smirk was on that person's lips, as this person turned around and leaving as the house as soon as that person came.

A year later...
Merlin woke up and yawns as stretching himself. His night rest was not bad, and for once he hadn't even got any nightmares. They occasionally appeared and god was he glad for finally, a well-rested night. Something was felt off, but he shrugged it off thinking that it was nothing. He went showering, changing into a new pair of clothes and smelling some food.
His brows furrowed as he felt confused. He lived alone so how can this be that he could smell food. Merlin was puzzled and walked into the kitchen/living room. He blinked as he saw Mordred. Then he remembered again. The said male was now started living this week with him, and he forgot about this. His mind wasn't that awake. Mordred was alright, but sometimes he was impulsive, and sometimes he got hit. But it was his fault when he got hit, either when he wasn't doing what he wanted him to do or when he broke something.
"Hey, my love. You are finally awake. I really thought you wouldn't wake up, honey."
His head tilted to the side as he blinked and looked sheepish now at Mordred.
"Um, is today something special?"
His eyes stared at Mordred and the said male hummed as going towards him. As he felt him getting closer and closer, he felt his heart thundering his chest as well as some butterflies starting fluttering in his gut.
"Aww, come on. Today is our one-year anniversary. You can't tell me that you forgot really that we are together."
It took a moment for him to realize what Mordred said and believed it. They were a year together, how could he have forgot that?
"I am terribly sorry, Mordy. I forgot about this."
A smirk played on the other's lips and he felt a shiver going through. Merlin knew what would happen next and he felt as well some fear in him.
"You really forget, hm? I need to punish you, my dear, for forgetting this special occasion."
He looked down and let himself be led to their room. He knew what would happen next and it would be painful.

A wince was all he could muster as he was left alone with an injured back. This was always like this, and he got used to it. Mordred ended up taking care of his wounds and telling him that everything was good again. It made him feel better now that he was forgiven. He didn't even know how bad this was and how wrong Mordred was treating him.
It was another month later that two people appeared and both wouldn't be pleased at all...
