Arthur had not told anyone this, but druids told him that he couldn't die. As he is connected with a warlock called Emrys. Not even his father knew this and would never tell him this. Who Emrys was a mystery until today. There was the things which he could not hide and he would soon realize this. He as well had magic, which no one knew. After all his other coin side had magic as well.

Then there was the sense that Merlin and he got closer and closer. But he always tried to stay on a distance,  knowing that the young adult would die. And he couldn't deal with the pain. He couldn't deal living alone after Merlin dies. The thought alone was way too painful for him. Just the imagination alone was making him want to break down. It was unbearable. Even after all these years he never told him. Never told how much he apprichiate Merlin.

But he was sure that Merlin knew this. Or why else would the male still stay with him? He never got the chance of making magic legal.  How could he suddenly tell others, 'hey I want to legalize magic because I am a warlock?' And then there was the thing about Gwen. He really liked her, but not as a love interest but as a sister.

Of course, he saw how Merlin looked. He saw how his smile got forced and he saw how he was not liking this. Why was always something he could never find out? Merlin never told him and until today. So here he was now mortally wounded and slowly dying and Merlin so desperately trying to rescue him.

He saw how much he suffered. Oh, how he would love to still see that smile. But there was nothing he could do. He hasn't even got to tell Merlin that he had magic and it broke him. At some point, Merlin told him something that shocked him to the core. He felt betrayed. Not because he hid this from him, but because he didn't trust him. It was painful to him, and he tried to push him away, but he stayed. Even after he lashed out on him, he stayed. This showed him once again how loyal he was.

It was warming his heart, but sadly he hadn't even had the energy to tell him how sorry he was. Arthur knew that he would die, and then he would wake up at some point again. It broke him to see Merlin like this. And he had so much to tell him. So much that he wanted Merlin to know. He wanted him to know how he appreciated having the other near him. How thankful he was for everything he has done, not just for him but for Camelot as well. Now that he knew that Merlin had magic, he realized how much the latter male had done for Camelot and for him.

He regretted not telling how much he was in love with Merlin. He regretted not telling him how he appreciates everything he had done for him and Camelot. He regretted that he was going out with Gwen when he wasn't really in love with her. And the most he regretted was that he lashed out now.

Even now Merlin was helping him. Eating, drinking and even cleaning him. At some point, he felt that weak that he blanked out. When he came back he realized that he was at the grass and Merlin desperately trying to ask a dragon for help. He would have probably been scared shitless, but right now he had no energy left anymore.

"I am sorry, Emrys but there is nothing I can do. It was an honour meeting you."

Flapping sounds were heard and Merlin called a name. When he wouldn't be that weak he would probably have some reaction. But there was no energy left to really feel happy. No energy left to really ask him why he hadn't told him that he was Emrys. He felt someone plop down on him and he felt himself being lifted into a hug.

"Please...I...don't want to lose you...I can't do...this without you...please don't go..."

His voice was so fragile and shaky that he felt like the worst person on earth right now. It was him who caused this pain to the person he loved the most. And god he felt his heart-shattering. Arthur decided to use his last energy to do and say something. He slowly lifts his hand up, shakily as putting it into the cheeks of Merlin as he whispered his last words...

"Thank you..."

His breath stopped slowly working , eyes starting to drop. And before he blacked out he heard a heartwrenching call out of his name...

A/N This will have a second part in which I got an idea from someone. But I just can't remember and find out who that was.
