Uther always knew that Arthur wasn't really into females. And it seemed that his son had finally the balls to tell him. Of course, at first, he wasn't really that fan of, but there was nothing he could do. Love is love, even when you love the same gender. It was, of course, uncommon, but it wasn't stopping him from making a plan.
He decided to play matchmaker, but first, he needed to find the right person. Which wasn't easy with his son being gay. Uther almost had given up from finding someone from his son, but soon found someone who was perfect. He just rescued his son and the chemistry was something that he had never seen before with Arthur. This male was the first one who managed to bicker with his son. And it was endearing. This male was both witty and sarcastic. Not to mention that bright smile he had.
And this male wasn't that half bad looking. He had raven-haired color hair and blue eye color. And rather big ears but that suited the male.
So he planned to make him a 'thank you', the new manservant of Arthur. This could be fun and he felt on the inside gleeful. Of course, his son had not suspected a thing and the other male as well.
Let's see how that will play out...

It was now a few weeks and god was he enjoying this. So far Morgana had caught on and helped as well. Even she finds these two would suit each other well. A day after Morgana found out, something happened. Merlin drank the drink which would have been for his son and ended up getting poisoned. This made him furious as this would kill Merlin. He decided to slowly show concern for Merlin. So when he heard his son wanted to get a plant which would be the only way to make a remedy was a flower. So he let him go, with some knights and all could hope that he would get back.
And it ended up well and he still couldn't believe that this witch Nimueh had been the fault for Merlin almost dying. But at least it ended up well. There was as well something different from the said male and he suspected that he had magic. Like how else would his son survive that many bandit attacks? Not to mention that Arthur told Morgana about a light that helped him.
It made him conflicted as well as confused. Merlin wasn't evil but in his eyes magic was. This led to him feel unsure now. He questioned his feelings about magic. The teen was endearing and he couldn't do this to Arthur. Because he sees how much the male cares for Merlin. It was just something that he couldn't do.
Then there was the fact with the druid boy. And that was why he let it slide. More and more changes were made. And this just because of Merlin. The male showed himself that there was still some good in magic. But so far Merlin still hadn't said anything about it.
But it was clear that the male was a sorcerer. Like it was too much of a coincidence that the undead knight ended up dying by the sword. And then that sword suddenly vanishing. He suspects that Merlin had something to do with this. Like, come on. The teen or by now 17 years old sucked at lying. It was obvious that he hadn't gone to Tom.
---So after this entire Cedric thing was over, he decided to finally talk to Merlin. Enough was enough. There was just no way that Cedric could have been defeated without magic. And the only person who disappeared was Merlin. Not to mention that the teen ended up breaking out of the cell. It was enough indicator that the young adult had magic.
"Sire, we brought him."
The teen looked really nervous and right now he was really glad to know that Arthur wasn't here. His son would fight tooth and nail when he would know what he was doing.
"Thank you. You can leave now."
The knights bowed and he was alone now. Merlin was fidgeting and not saying anything. So that he decided to point on the chair and he shuffled soon at a free chair and sitting down.
"Merlin I think you have some explaining to do. You are a sorcerer, aren't you? And before you deny it, I won't do anything. My son would even fight me when you would get harmed."
The teen snapped his head now towards him and he could see fear, confusion and his skin turn pale.
"I-I am not."
His head now was on his hand as he stared at the male with a thoughtful look. The young adult was still scared and he knew why. Right now he could kick himself for making the male fear him that much.
"Alright, then. Tell me then how bandits end up tripping, losing their swords or assassin attempts failing. And my knights finding them unconscious the next morning. Or that light that day when Arthur went for that plant who was needed as a remedy. It clearly showed him the exit.
What about Cedric? The male had been possessed by the evil sorcerer and you weirdly ended up escaping out of your cell. There was an indicator that this had been nuked away, which cannot be done without magic."
Merlin paled even more and he let out a sigh. This young adult had done more good than bad. Even him who thought magic makes people evil can see this.
"W-will you n-now ban m-me out o-of Cam-Camelot?"
Voice shaky, words stumbled and he could hear the fear as well the sorrow. It was clear as day that Merlin enjoyed being the manservant of Arthur. Even when he probably complains about the workload to Gaius.
"No. Like I said before Arthur would fight me. My son enjoyed your company and I fear that even when I would ban you, he would just drag you back. But I need to know since when did you start practicing? And were you the one who defeated the assassin's or protected Arthur in the shadows?"
This seemed to make Merlin surprised and he stared at him with wide eyes as well mouth gaping. It was quite amusing to see the witty male like this. And he couldn't help but chuckle now.
"I d-didn't practice. I was born like this, sire. I could move things even before I could walk. You must now that I never once used it for myself but for Arthur. My destiny is to protect him and I would die for the prince."
Born? That wasn't possible but even a blind man could hear the sincerity. And he could see and tell that Merlin cares for his son. So that Uther just had not the heart to ban the teen. But that now made him question this entire thing.
"I see, I always thought that this wasn't possible. But I can tell that you aren't lying. Does Gaius know?"
Merlin nodded but there was a pause now as the teen was figuring out his words. He could almost see the gears turning in his head and it was making him aw how adorable Merlin looked right now.
"H-he doesn't know what I am, but..."
There was a but in it and he could just think of one person who would know. One that was a dragon and this made him let out a sigh. Of course, Merlin would go down there. And of course, the two had been in contact.
"Let me guess you talked with the dragon? Free him. I had been in the wrong and I can never atone with what I have done. I won't tell my son about this conversation but you have to tell him."
Merlin nodded and they talked a bit more. The teen seemed by now more at ease with him and relaxed even. Let's just say the dragon was pissed off at him and he ended up getting yelled at. But in the end, they made a treaty. So that the dragon would let Camelot alone as long as Uther doesn't harm his kin anymore.
So when Merlin told Arthur, the male was pissed off and they hadn't talked in a week until suddenly they started talking again and goofing around. Both seemed to be closer now. That close that he could tell that there had been something else going on.
Mission accomplished and he couldn't care less about them probably being together. After all, his son's happiness goes before anything else.
