It was strange. Uther had died and all he could do was watch and wonder how none had realized that the clumsy servant had magic. Worse was that his son seemed to be fond of this person. He hated this.
It was not okay and it worried him that his son was thinking about changing the law of magic coming back. Magic corrupted and he could not see any other way then execute them, before they could harm the kingdom. Worse was that this came from the servant and he screamed at Arthur for listening to this person.
He gritted his teeth and wanted nothing more than to do something, but there was nothing that he could do. Uther died after all and it pisses him off that he could just watch his kingdom end up being destroyed by the young adult.
His eyes narrowed at Merlin as the man went somewhere. Because of this, he decided to follow the other male, after all his old friend Gaius always mentioned Merlin to be at the tavern. Yet as he followed he was puzzled. The servant was not heading to a tavern but somewhere else.
The farther they went the warier he got. His eyes narrowed more and he really wished he could at least act on his irritation and hatred towards this sorcerer. But then he saw what Merlin was doing and he held in.
It was confusing to see Merlin stop these people that for sure would have tried to kill his son. But what purpose would this sorcerer do this? That question stayed on his mind even after he followed Merlin back with the servant for sure having bruises.
It was not expected and even stranger was that the man had hidden this from his son. It was as if he was trying never to tell Arthur that he had just now stopped a threat. Either way, he decided to continue watching and hoping that this will not end up causing his son's death, because of the trust he had put into Merlin..
.
.
The more he watched the more puzzling it got and more and more he started to see that Merlin was protecting not just his son, the knights, and Camelot itself. And the more this happened the more his feelings changed. It started with respect and now after months of watching he started to get fond of the idiot.
He could tell that his son was for sure having feelings towards the servant and the same was said for Merlin. It was amusing to watch and also irritating that the two were dancing around each other. He also found it amusing that the knights were betting about how long it would take.
But he also felt conflicted, knowing that Camelot needed an heir and Arthur knew this. Then there was this issue that both were males and he was sure that not many would accept this. For Uther, it was a conflict, but he could see that Arthur cared deeply for the servant and was happy. Taking that happiness away was not going to go well and hopefully, there would be a solution. Either way, he was by now so done with the two dancing around each other and then that almost none seemed to realize that Merlin had magic.
Yet his magic was different and that was what he could tell. A sigh went out as he watched Merlin once more take down another enemy that could have been the death of Arthur.
"You know, I know you're watching me, Uther Pendragon." Merlin's voice was calm but anxious and he was startled to hear that the servant would see him.
"Why are you doing this, for Camelot sorcerer?" He asked with indifference as he did not want to show that he started to feel fond toward the person that Arthur fell for."Who else would protect the clotpole when not me?"
"Still doesn't explain it. You know the laws of Camelot and you know that Arthur does not accept this, don't you?"
The wince that went through Merlin made him know that the other man knew exactly what he was talking about."He might be hurt that I hid it, but I also am hoping that I won't get killed, banned yes but killed no."
This was a statement that showed trust in his son and he once again wondered how long it would take for both to realize their feelings. A sigh went out and he glanced around and then back to Merlin.
"Knowing him, yeah. He won't kill you, for that he's too fond. But I also know that this might give him the push to change the laws after he has forgiven you." Uther knew that Merlin will somewhen be found out and he also knew that Arthur was thinking about changing the laws, but had not yet as there hadn't been the push that was needed.
Maybe he had been wrong, after all, Merlin has shown that Magic can be used to protect and heal. He never did pay attention to this and now that he was dead, he hoped that Arthur would fix the mistake that he had made."Wait, but why would you want this. Didn't you hate my kind?"
He blinked and looked for a moment at Merlin before deciding to shrug and not say anything else. There was no way that he would tell his reasoning to Merlin, after all, he still felt a bit wary of him."You- Fine, anyway I have to head back, and you do whatever you do as a ghost." With this Merlin walked away with an adorable pout.
Merlin had this weird charm to him, that made it impossible deep down not to like him after Uther getting to know the other. As he watched the other leave, he decided to go back to Camelot as well..

After this, it was not unusual for Merlin and him to converse. The reason was that the man seemingly wanted to get to know him, and now that there was no risk of the other being beheaded it was for sure helped Merlin not to fear him too much.
Still, there was this same wariness towards him then he was and that slowly vanished with time. Yet, his son had yet to tell Merlin of his feelings, and the amusing thing was that the two were courting each other without realizing it.
It made not just him crack up, but the knights were finding it hilarious at the two being oblivious about this. Either way, he really wished he could at least tell his idiot son to get on with it as it was glaringly obvious that the two were in love. And so he decided to talk with Merlin, as he was the only person as of now, that he could talk to.
"Alright, Merlin." He huffed out and folded his arms together and gave the male a look that he had given to Arthur when the male was an idiot or when Merlin did something moronic too.
"Uh ye-yes?" It was squeaked out, for sure in anxiety and the paling skin color was not helping either.
"You do know that my son was courting you the past three months?" He asked with amusement and an eyebrow raise.
The male blinked, then stared at him, and soon his entire face turned bright red and Uther could see that Merlin was shifting nervously around as playing with his sleeves.
"Wait- but- what?" The speechlessness made him snort and give him a deadpan look.
"Not just my idiotic son, but you also were courting him without realizing it. Come on, just tell Arthur and get on with it." He pointed out and the blush got even worse and of course, Merlin had to faint on the spot.
'I am really surrounded by idiots aren't I?' A sigh went out as he mused at his thoughts.
It was not exactly expected to see Merlin faint, but he also wasn't that surprised, so as the male started to slowly come back, he could see that there was a freakout."Look, I can tell that you fall for him and the same is said for Arthur. As long as you are happy I am fine, but you need to be careful as not all accept this and you two would need to figure out how to get an heir." He pointed out and Merlin stared at him and ducked his head at this.
"I- Okay..." The male softly yet timidly answered and that was it, as the male rushed back to Arthur for sure.
He didn't follow as he was sure that Merlin would feel too much pressure, but it was obvious at least for him and some of the knights that the two had talked it out, with how their secretive eyes met and both having that blush or that hidden touch. It was cute and he was glad to see that this is finally over.Soon magic came back and with this Morgana finally decided to stay. It was a relief to see that the female had talked it out with his son. The same was said towards Merlin and the two were for sure tense at first, but soon it was how it had been in the past.
Either way, Uther was sure that this would not go well. But what was still an issue at times, was that people thought to mistreat Merlin, and let's just say that every time they were thinking they could, something happened to him. Sometimes they tripped without a reason, sometimes they end up soaking wet without anyone having done something or they end up leaving suddenly out of fear.Merlin seemed to know something was up but was not saying something and it was amusing for the other man for sure. There were also these grateful glances shown and they both knew that everything would end up fine, and that was what was mattering. After all, his son was happy and Camelot started to flourish, and he was feeling happy about how it turned out.
