Merthur/Merlin one shot

A different kind of Omegaverse

A/N is a bit of a change of cannon. In this, the Sidhe appeared way later and Uther is still alive. Magic is still outlawed. Another thing is that this also is in the Omegaverse, meaning the entire Omega and Alpha thing. With a twist, hope you enjoy this.

It was widely known that when an Omega feels the person that deep down is their mate, then it's better to back off. Even when the Alpha doesn't know this or the Omega either. Pure instinct is taking over and in these times it's better to leave the room or else it could get worse.

That was what was happening right now. Gwaine had often joked about Merlin being Arthur's mate with how protective the Alpha was and the same was said to his best friend. So it came unsurprisingly that the male was seeing Sophie and Aulfric as a threat to the prince.

Gwaine wasn't exactly sure how it came to this, but suddenly the two people were attacked by a force. The only good thing about this is that the king was not there and only the knights and himself were right now in the room.

Either way, Gwaine knew better than to get between an Omega that is protecting their territory. Worse was an Omega that had magic. Even though it was illegal to just have it, Gwaine and all his friends knew that the king would not kill Merlin, even when he had magic.

The reason was simple, them being mates, and killing someone's mate would kill Arthur. A thing that all knew as he held his breath to see what Merlin would do now. It was clear that the male was getting more and more anxious and fearful about something and now he knew why.

These people were a threat to Arthur and this was why he was right now showing that he is not going to be touched. Either way, Gwaine had never seen Merlin be in full-on Omega instinct. 

He hadn't even been sure that Merlin was an Omega, but now most things made sense.

"Uh, Arthur how about you try to calm your mate down before he ends up doing something that he will regret."

The mentioned male blinked and the look of anger was making him know that there had been more behind the actions of the prince before this happened. 

Gwaine watched as Arthur narrowed his eyes towards the two and the growl that went out was showing his displeasure about something. Not Merlin that much was clear, but the idiot friend of his thought for sure it was him, and the slight whimper that went out was also making it known about the fear.

"You." The tone was growled out as stalking over the two and Merlin shivered but still looked at the two people that by now, were sitting there staring with hatred towards the Omega.

"How dare you?" Sophie sneered and he blinked as not having expected this and neither did the knights.

"I dare, he's my mate and you took him from me, you thief." The tone was clipped and angry yet pain was also heard.

Arthur on the other hand was letting out a soothing coo as having by now an arm around the middle and rubbing at the scent gland.

"Calm down, my Omega. None will take me away from you, and guards take these to the dungeon and make sure that they cannot use magic."

With this, he moved first and stalked over making his eyes coldly staring at the two. He was pissed that these two dared to use magic on their king. Even when he was not yet, for Gwaine Arthur was and always would be his king. Merlin would never do that, this much is clear. Hopefully, the king would not do anything rash about this.

With Merlin

He watched with tension as the two were dragged away, and soon relaxed at the touch of his mate. Merlin did not fully understand what had happened, but he knew that the threat of his mate was over and he could relax now.

"Come, let's head to my room and uh talk this out." It was awkward and made him flush and nod.

The entire way the male held his hand and was not letting go at all. It was embarrassing for sure, but his inner Omega preened at the attention and made him wonder why he never realized that Arthur was his mate. At least he had to worry less but also knew that the male would want to talk about his magic.

As soon as they entered and the door closed, tension has arisen. His body tensed too and he shifted while waiting for what Arthur would say. The Prince gave him a look over and then let out a sigh.

"Look, I know my father is thinking that magic is corrupting people, but there is no way that you are evil. You have no evil bone in you and also can't believe that I did not see that one coming." The wry undertone made him blink before blushing as trying to say something but all that came out was a whimper.

"Hey, not going to kill you. From now on you are under my protection from anyone, even the king. I can guess that you hid this out of fear and can't blame you for that."

"I-I didn't want you to choose. I just feared that you would probably kill me and I dunno, I was born this way and had no choice in this." He swallowed as looking down.

The male let out a soothing sound as the calming pheromone of his Alpha got to him. There were also soon arms wrapped around him and he purred unintentionally as liking his Alpha hugging him. A blush followed and he buried his head into the chest not wanting the male to see that he was blushing.

"I see, but how can that be?"

Merlin could not answer this really, and even as he did, it was still complicated. Arthur pulled him a bit closer and he knew that this would change everything.

As Uther found out what had happened, it caused an argument between the son and the father. Yet the king had realized quickly that Merlin was the mate of his son and even with magic there was no way that he could pull the male under a spell. It was one of the things that everyone knew.

Even with Sophie, the king had known that there was something not right and told him outright that he was not in love. This time, on the other hand, he could smell the scent mixed between the two, just through them scenting each other.

This made it impossible for Arthur to find another Omega that was of royal blood. Either way, he could not do this to his son, knowing how painful it would be and the Alpha instincts and Omega instincts would not let this one be.

Uther was pretty sure that the two would fight tooth and nail and so he decided to let them have this. After all his son looked happier since meeting Merlin, even when the male constantly seemed to whine about the incompetency of the servant. Even he could see that the other loved him and that was fine with him.
