Arthur was confused. Like really badly confused. It was just too strange and he had no idea why. And it started to weird him out. So why he was weirded out, well it all started with the first time when he, Gwaine and his new manservant Merlin was going on out to his town. In the middle of their time towards Merlin's home town, bandits appeared. At first, they were planning to attack, but as soon as they laid eyes on Merlin, they froze and then running away, with a not so mainly scream/shriek.
This was making him confused and he looked at Merlin then back at the direction where the bandits ran and the back to Merlin. He stared now at him, and a puzzled look was now on his expression. Merlin shrugged and soon they continued to move and he just pushed it aside.
The next thing was when they were at the town and bandits were now attacking the town of Merlin hometown. Once again they were starting to attack, that was until the boss looked at Merlin, and his smug expression changed to one of fear. Soon he called them away and once again they ran away with the same, not so manly scream/shriek. Once again he looked first at Merlin and then back at the bandits, and then back at said younger male.
And once again he shrugged and had an amused expression. So he shrugged it away once more and just not thinking much of it.

The third time was a few weeks later when there were some enemies entering Camelot, but as soon as they laid eyes on Merlin their expression changed to one of fear and they ran away like scaredy cats. Once again he stared at them and then back at Merlin. The said young adult just shrugged and chuckled. And once again he knew that there was nothing he could get out of Merlin. So he pushed it aside, thinking that they aren't scared of his servant and they just see something that he couldn't see.
This went for a while and when Uther died he got more and more suspicious and it started to bug him that much that. So that he had enough now. As they started to run away he narrowed his eyes, folded his arms together and glaring fiercely at his servant.
"You have some explaining to do Merlin. Why in Camelot's name are these bandits, assassins, and enemies running away whenever they see you? And don't you dare to avoid this question."
The body language of Merlin instantly change and he looked everywhere else than him. His body slouches slightly, eyes were wide and he looked as well fearful. There was as well the fact that his body was slightly shaky. Right now Merlin looked like a kicked, scared puppy who has done something horribly wrong. This made him awe at the cuteness that was in front of him. And it was almost impossible to get mad at Merlin. Not to mention that he wanted to pull him into a hug.
"I -uh-...am a warlock..."
His voice shaky, his lips trembled and his head was down in shame. What was a warlock? And what has this to do with bandits and others run away whenever they see him.
"Be more specific. Because I don't know what that is. And what has that to do with all this?"
Arthur's voice was soft and he wasn't wanting to make Merlin get scared and run away. He saw him shift one foot to another and looking more nervous now.
"It's like a sorcerer, but a warlock is born with magic or gets it through something else. And I am known by a different name, am special and my fate is to protect you..."
His eyes widen now. His clumsy and kindhearted friend by now was someone who has magic. And he was born with it. This was not something he expected and he felt betrayed now. And it was a lot to take in. His father always said that people who have magic are evil, but was that really like this?
"W-why didn't you tell me? Didn't you trust me?"
As soon as the words escaped his mouth, Merlin's head snapped up and he saw the fear in his eyes.
"I couldn't-you- I really wanted to, but I was scared. Scared that you would reject me. Scared that you would...ban me or worst, when your father was still alive...tell him and I would end up getting burnt on the pryer. I never used my magic for evil, but just for you. I thought you would end up hating me and I-...."
Merlin stopped talking and started to swallow hard. He could see how much fear and despair was in his voice. It cut deep in his core when he heard and saw how Merlin looked right now. Arthur needed time to think all about this.
"I need time. Can you leave me for now?"
Merlin nodded and walked away and he let out a sigh as he sat down. His head buried into his face as he let out a sigh. The one he trusted the most, the one who was always there for him has magic. And he really had no idea what to do.

It was a few hours later and Merlin came back now, but not looking at him that much. He noticed that he was glancing at him from time to time. Merlin looked still like a kicked puppy, and now when he looked at him more closely he saw that he had puffy and red eyes.
'Shit, he cried. I just can't be mad at him. Not when he looks like this...'
He let out a sigh and decided to break the silence between them. Now that he thought more about it, he understood why Merlin had hidden this. And because he understood, he would forgive Merlin. Not to mention he couldn't really not forgive him when he looked like this.
"Merlin come here."
The said male was now looking at him with wide eyes and he could see once again fear, but he shuffled towards him. As soon as he was in front of him, he pulled him down and into a hug. Arthur could feel him stiffen but soon hugged back.
"You are such a baffoon. Should have told me earlier instead of bottling this up that much."
Wetness was felt and he felt like a jerk for making Merlin cry now. It was never something he wanted, and he hated when Merlin looked upset. His friend looked better when smiling and he always made his day and he always made a smile on his lips. So hearing his sobs was heart-wrenching for him.
"S-sorry..."
He heard him say and he let out a sigh as he went through his hair, trying to help him calm down, which worked after a few minutes.
"Next time, when something bothers you talk to me and another thing, I will try to make magic legalize. My father was wrong and you showed me that he was wrong."
Since this day he got a deeper understanding with Merlin and why he was sometimes going somewhere. It was two months later that magic got legalized and Morgana as well Mordred were the first once who appeared. They started to talk, and that just Merlin scolded all three of them for arguing. In the end, they ended living in the castle and all was well...
Oh, and he found out that Merlin was Emrys which was interesting and he knew as well that Merlin was immortal. It ended up, with another argument as he had hidden this, but they fast made up, as both just couldn't stay too long away from each other.
