Logan Berry was well known in school. For some because he was an excellent tutor. Some because he supposed he made an easy target. And still others because he was trans. Logan was well aware of his popularity, and never really cared too much. He was more interested in learning and helping others learn then really focusing on the fickle favor of the populus of highschool. His popularity traveled to his teachers too. Some of them adored Logan for his willingness to help them set up classrooms or lead study groups. Others weren't fond of the knowledge that a sixteen year old was better at algebra or grammar than they were. Plus, this was Florida, so some just didn't like him for the more obvious reasons. Once again, Logan really was unbothered by their opinions until it affected his grades.

Logan readjusted the glasses up the bridge of his nose as he adjusted his bowtie and walked towards his locker. It was a rarity that Logan didn't already have his books, but last night he had been in a rush to get home and had not stopped to prepare for the next day. Logan never carried a backpack, as he didn't like the way it sat on his shoulders, and instead always carried a computer bag that hung to one side. He had a few pins on there, an introvert's way of communication without actually having to talk with another person. A pin with the words "Bowties are cool", and a pronoun pin clipped to the sides. In between them was a collection of small pins. One was of a chemical compound, another of an accordion to represent "Weird Al" Yankovic. They were all variously scattered on his bag, and he enjoyed switching them out with other small pins occasionally. Logan made it to his locker with little issue, and grabbed his books for his first period, before his locker door was slammed shut. Logan's eyebrows went up slightly as he looked over to see the culprit, expecting an argument or a shakedown. However, Logan only saw a friend of his, Janus Duplis, with a mischievous grin.

"No." Logan stated, sliding his books into his bag as he turned away.

"Oh come on Lolo! You haven't even heard my idea yet!" Janus complained as he followed behind.

"Is it illegal?"

"Not this time!"

"Is it against school rules?"

"Not unless that stick is further up their asses than I thought!"

"Will it affect my ability to get to my classes?"

"Well..." Janus paused. "Yes but-"

"Then my answer remains the same."

"Oh come on! Patton is in on it too!"

Logan paused for a moment. Patton was the sweetest kid in school, and he was kind, friendly, funny, intelligent, charming, and it was very obvious that Logan had the biggest crush on his classmate. If Patton- vice president of the school's student council- was going, then surely it wasn't that bad. "Patton will be in attendance?"

Janus grinned in a way that made Logan regret stopping, "Yes."

"Very well. Lead the way then." Logan said, his ears a bit pink, and placed his books back into his locker.

Janus was normally a more quiet, more sarcastic person, so even though Logan was annoyed at his absence from class, he was admittedly a bit curious as to what his friend was so excited for. Could it be a party for some sports victory? No, their school had a notoriously poor sports reputation. Besides, Logan couldn't imagine Patton missing classes for such a trivial thing. Perhaps it was a senior luncheon? Logan knew the seniors were often visited by nearby colleges with food while the college representatives blathered on about their alma maters. However, it was rather early for them to be setting up, and Janus wouldn't be interested in something like that. Logan was so lost in theories that he almost ran into Janus as the other paused at the door. Logan's friend slowly opened the door that led back outside the school, and waved for Logan to follow, all while his eyes stayed trained to something from above the door. Logan eased out behind him, and looked up to see a banner over the school.

"Welcome to Sideson High School?" Logan read. "I was unaware we did this for transfer students."

"We don't!" A very peppy voice spoke from behind. Suddenly, Logan's legs were jelly and his head was void of his normal extensive vocabulary. He turned to see a shorter boy with a set of round set glasses and a mop of frizzy golden brown hair walking towards him. "There is a new principal since the old one quit. This is a kind of welcome to the school present we are doing. It's good to see you Logan!"

"Salutations, Patton. It is very kind of you to put something like this together for a new principal."

"Well, we should always be kind to those who teach, shouldn't we?" Janus asked in a way that instantly made Logan suspicious. Logan turned back to look at Janus, watching as Janus's envy green eyes glittered behind a mop of lighter brown hair.

"Yes, I would agree." Logan said, a bit of a cautious edge to his answer. Patton didn't notice, and walked them over to where they were putting together a small welcome basket. Two others were there already. The school drama king Roman and his brother Remus, as Logan recalled. Remus was actively trying to sneak in drawings of creepy faces he had quickly drawn or other lude innuendo, while Roman spent his time removing Remus's contributions.

"Logan and Janus, this is Roman and Remus. Roman and Remus, meet Janus and Logan." Patton smiled. Logan held out his hand for the twins to shake, but Remus simply licked his own before reaching. Logan removed the offer.

Logan was tasked with helping set up the table that the basket was on. Mainly focused on putting together small clumps of pictures of the students or checking through a letter addressed to the new principal to hide any inappropriate comments. Logan would sneak a glance every so often at the others. Patton was finishing up the banner with another boy who Logan didn't recognize. Remus had given up on his mission with the welcome basket and was talking with Janus as they swept up the front entrance. Roman was nearby, however, finishing up the basket by himself. Logan debated initiating a conversation to answer some of the curiosity about the twins since he didn't know them well, but decided against it for the more comfortable silence.

Logan had finished his items early, and was fully planning on leaving to go to his class, but
Patton had requested he stay so that he could give Logan a pass for missing his classes. Logan stayed, but that was only part of the reason why. Roman had finished too, and was talking with Patton nearby. The other boy, named Emile apparently, was over with Janus and Remus as they talked. Logan had only just noticed how far Janus, Remus, and Emile were from the building when a car pulled up to the lot.
